Cleaning house/vaccuming = 40$
Leaf raking = 6$
Thinking about starting to do some work so I can get some money by black friday to buy a new computer+sc2, what do you guys think of these prices?

But you should probably check what other services are going for. If you're anywhere near a professional cleaning service [40 dollars sound super high] then you should probably lower it a little. Same with mowing. Raking for 6 dollars doesn't sound that bad, but I grew up in a yard that had about 40000 leaves every fall. : P

Leaf raking seems fine, but to me 6$ always seems kinda greedy, you could do it for 5$, but it's clever. Cleaning house: Need further explanation. Do you just vacuum every room or do you clean dust/clean bathrooms and kitchen in a more intense way etc. For just vacuum it's too high, for the full treat it's too low, if the average room number is >4(maybe even 2 bathrooms).

Prices depend on the area, a well-off neighborhood will always pay more especially if you have the "sweet young hardworking kid" look/attitude

Well, If I had 40$ for every single time I cleaned my own house, I'd be rich. True that. Not to mention every time I raked the leaves and mowed the lawn? Definitely a millionaire by now. Haha,

Wouldn't it be kinda weird to offer vacuuming services? Even so I'd offer 5$ to vacuum my bus if its any consolation.

A 15 year old generally cannot provide all of these services anywhere near as well as a cleaning service though.

you start off with those prices if people keep saying no. lower the prices by 1 quarter, then if it still fails, lower the prices by 1 half of the original prices you created. first day might be just full of you offering the deals and people saying no, then you lowering the prices. (figuring out fair prices on day 1) day 2 just might be profit day, don't be afraid to go back to houses who said no, with new prices. thats how you hustle. keep in mind it should only take about 1 hour of asking to see who says no and who says yes, also!! bring paper with you to write addresses so you can keep those addresses, and the fixed prices, some houses will say yes, some will say no to your prices, make notes of who is ok with original price, and make notes of who wanted it lowered and what price they earn you. that way you can go back and offer the same deal. its quite nice, thats how you hustle. lol i love hustling. we use to shovel driveways got 40 bucks once, its all in the person really. no price is too high or too low, your mistake was asking TL and not the actual home owners.

Now base your price around this : easy work (go between 6 and 9$ an hour, not sure what are standard in your country, just remember you are 15years old and not a professional company so being paid minimum wages is not something you're entitled for) add a third for hard work.

It's like in the ads section of a newspaper when you come across something like "5 year old Afghan girl, playful and well behaved for sale" - the seconds after the initial shock and the suppressed realization that it's the dog breed that Afghan refers to are pure laughter!

Usually you approach someone and say you want to raise money for X and then you will get them to pay whatever to help you out of their heart rather than paying you for the actual task.

To be honest though, i think you're better off trying to get a job hookup from a relative or just ask your parents for a new computer =p If you show them the research you did on the computer you want and have decent-good grades im sure they'll at least think about it.

Your spoiledness as a child > mine ditto, no allowance here either when i was growing up ![]() the prices seems a little high.. i mow the lawn (for free obv) but i don't think it takes me more than 30 minutes.. so that'd be like $5 for a 15yo not sure how that turns into $20. oh well edit: in the end it's not the price that matters, it's how well you get along with whomever you're doing the job for. talk to them and see what they expect or what they like, you'd be surprised.. for example they might have something fairly simple to do that they really want to have done, but haven't been able to get around to (like cleaning out the basement or something) and pay you very well just to have it done make a good impression first, discuss details later imo

I think 20$ is reasonable for mowing the lawn though, especially if you bring your own mower. Depending on the yard you might want to charge 10-15 bucks and hour. Also nobody lets a random kid into their house to clean things.

Lol 9.50 isn't minimum wage...trust me I make less than that at my part time job and it's not even minimum. edit: found out it depends where you live. I live in BC and it's the lowest...a measly $8/hour. For a 15 year old...8$ an hour sounds about right.

Key word here is "parents/aunts". When I was younger (around 10-11), I used to go to my grandparent's place and water their frigging patch of grass with a hose for 15 minutes and they would give me $10 each time. God damn how much I would love that now. Getting family to pay you is easy. Getting a random person to pay you is hard as hell.

Got no allowance ever. When I was like you know, 9 or 10 years old we'd take the trash out to the curb each week for the garbage trucks to pick up in the mornings for like 15 cents. I'd was the cars (full car wash, and I was f'ing amazing at it) for like 5 bucks. I remember when our neighbors who were extremely friendly to us, would hvae us take car of their two golden retrievers (scoop up the poop in the side yard and toss it in the trash can, hose off the side yard, change their water bowl, feed them a bowl of food, walking the dogs and playing with them in the front yard was optional) for 5 bucks a day, we considered that the most awesome thing ever. This was all until I was 16 and then I got a job lifeguarding. Get money, save it, get gifts from relatives, save it, thats how I always grew up. Even now that I'm in college and have an on campus job I make my paychecks and don't spend it, it gets put in direct deposit, and I can say I've spent less than 400 dollars on personal items in the past 2 years. 30 dollars for SC2 when I got it on sale during a preorder, 25 dollars for a mouse, 25 dollars for a headset, 18 dollars for a mousepad. Don't give an attitude on here to people who are telling it how it is. We're all people who have been there before and aren't here with the goal of being malicious, just trying to help you figure it out.

if someone wants to pay you way more than they should, take it! just be ready to negotiate if your neighbor laughs in your face for an outrageous price. people would pay 20$ or something to get their lawn mowed... be sure to start in your neighborhood. people tend to take care of their own, and if your neighbors see you hustling around the block, theyll be more apt to turn to someone they know
