Hello friends. I'd like to preface this by saying that I've taken a good ~50 photos that I'm pleased with, but being as that its midnight and I'm running off 4 hours of sleep within the last 3 days, I've only picked/resized/touched up ~13 of my favorites. The rest will be posted tomorrow!
Also, I've resized them to forum sizes, but I have large (4000x3000 or something) versions. If you for whatever reason want one, PM me!
Day #1 started where I promptly met up with wonkman, who generously allowed me to stay in his hotel room, and we proceeded to the registration area where we happened to come across EG. We exchanged pleasantries and I informed them that I'm only partially a stalker, but mostly was going to be following them for some Teamliquid pictures. They approved.

After iNcontroL educated IdrA on the subject of candid photography, he managed himself in to my first proper photo of the day, which turned out to be one of my favorites.
Soon after, IdrA decided to look all angelic and shit.
Here is the man, Machine. He is looking quite devilish, indeed.
Tyler and Ret joined EG in line, and I snapped one of Tyler enjoying some sort of beverage. Somehow, being a photographer, I managed to cut in front of all of them when I went to register. :fuckyeah:
Here's Day[9] taking a clear interest in one of IdrAs 500 practice matches when the doors opened.
God damn I took a lot of pictures of IdrA. Anyway, it's a rare occasion when you can catch him showing a hint of emotion. This was taken after one of his many victories (maybe the finals.) If only I was allowed in the player area at this time, I could have gotten Machine without a monitor in front of his face.
Machine may only be spamming APM at this very moment, but he does so with great fervor.
I've been spotted, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu--
I sadly did not get many photos of HuK besides this one. I'd say that he is too small to find, or too wild to chase, but.. well actually, that's true. Anyway, here he is, sitting and staring at the projector to analyze the KiwiKaki vs IdrA match (I think).
This is not the face that I had imagined to be Kawaiirice, but so help me, it is. (he's so cute, etc etc)
The only other fnatic picture I got- Gretorp in the heat of battle. edit: will brighten this up later, gotta sleep o.o
Now for some crowd shots. Here's QXC bunker rushing IdrA.
GG was called. I was hoping everyone would stand up and raise their hands, cheer and clap something crazy. They did everything except for standing up, and thus the photo was less exciting than I had hoped, but rest assured there was much excitement if you were there.
Pulled out my wide-angle lense and tried to get a shot of the entire crowd, from the wall and facing out. This may look like a lot, but it doesn't even do it justice. Behind the pillar, there are rows of people standing trying to get a glimpse of the action, no matter how awkward the angle.

That's it for tonight, in regards to photos! If anyone was there and was wondering which photo-camera guy I was, first day I was wearing a button-up with a red shirt under it, and second day I was wearing a hoodie with a white/gold-ish sleeveless shirt with tattoos (the few times I took the hoodie off.)
I played in the tournament, as well. First draw was against root.CatZ (who I sadly have no pictures of) which I lost, and second game was against "cava". I lost that too It was all in the name of good fun, though, and I had a great time.
A friend texted me and said that I was on camera briefly when playing, and that the MLG stream chat was talking about me because I wear a glove on my mouse-hand. I get joint pains and that undersized weightlifting glove helps tighten my hand and relieve pain somehow. Can't do that on my keyboard hand though because then I cant use hotkeys for shit. Anyway, my friend said a lot of people were talking about it. Maybe he's full of shit but I don't know :O

Great pics as always man ^^ I've said it before and I'll say it again - you're basically the NeverGG of the DC area.
And I think we did fine as a group in the tournament - all DC nerds won at least 1 game and Rob almost made it to day 2 :D

I don't think so I tried a number of crowd-shots at wide angle, but that last one is the only one that seemed to turn out. Being as that wide-angle lenses dont really zoom at all, I wasn't able to use them on players given that I was taking 90% of my photos behind the ropes and from far away, except for the few I took during practice games.

The photo of HuK would have been awesome if they lighting were better.
5 Stars

And with the magicks of photoshop, I attempt to rectify this for you, good sir. But yes, the lighting was give-or-take throughout the convention center. HuK was sitting in one of the darker areas at the time.

Excellent pictures! I wish I was down there to see all that. It really is making me want to go to one of the MLGs, maybe next time they are in the east coast I'll actually go. I would suggest you go down to future MLG (and similar) events in the area in the future, even if you don't get a gaming ticket just to take some awesome pictures. Because this itself seems worth it to the community, and (hopefully) to yourself also.
Btw, what camera do you have? These make me want it!
Keep 'em coming

I want to go to other LANs but I don't have a job Since I live in DC, and have some awesome friends, here was my total spending.
$60 to play. ~$2 to metro to King Street. $20 to taxi to venue $15 public house burger $8 potbelly sandwich/water, om nom $7 for a ginger ale and tuna lunch-to-go at 3am from hotel receptionist eat free doritos and drink free dr. pepper get a free stay in someone elses hotel room get a ride home
Although currently my bank account shows -$135 more from public house (which is presumably the whole check from the lot of us at the table) AND the $15 check that was mine. It says subject to change but hopefully they give it back

What camera and lens did you use? I had a hard time getting good photos with the low lighting, had to use ISO 800 and maximum aperture which made focusing incredibly difficult.
|
its all good man i think i can wait a bit. pics that you have atm are pretty awesome as is.
|
I'm in the last picture lol

Promise fail. fallout 3 new vegas and 90000 GSL games this week are what i'm attributing the excuse to this time. I'll post them eventually

Using a Canon 50D with 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 aperture for my standard lens and a 10-22mm 3.5-4.5 aperture for my wide lens. A lot of the shots were taken at 1600/3200 ISO with 30 shutter speed and the best aperture i could pending on the zoom. I'm just fortunate that the 50D is able to do 1600/3200 without much grain, let alone when re-sized and touched up. Never had a problem with focusing, didn't actually know that ISO/aperture really effected that.
