I don't mean to be an attention whore, but ask away if you're curious. Who knows, some people might find it interesting or even helpful :O.

Why aren't you the head admin of Teamliquid anymore?

Why is your postcount going backwards?

How the hell did you get so much posts?

Favorite BW player - Anytime[gm]

Mainly because the first "real time" (well it was 1 month after the fact) finals I saw was the So1 finals of Anytime vs Boxer

Favorite TL thread - Tough call. I'm going to have to go with the Progaming Magic the Gathering card threads.

RL first name is "Hajime" (Japanese name which means something like, "first", "to create", "to start" etc), and I was a dumb 7th grader when this account name was made for posterity.

I majored in Electrical Engineering, and quit a minor in Bioengineering after having most of the requirements done. Regret not focusing more on software though .

Greatest lament about the site is that we couldn't reign in the stampede that is the sc2 forum
I'm proud to have gotten in shape

Loved watching Nitto back in his heyday b/c he was so clean, but when you say "favorite", I'm thinking -will cheer for over anyone else- and this has to be Koshun (LOL). His play is such an epic combination of win and fail.

I played Ryu/Ken/Yun/Dudley/Alex/Gouki. I'm so bad at the game now that I can't even say which I'm best with. Probably Ken since he's OP .

I don't even know the teams for SBO!
Okay I'm goign to go check the site now!

Holy shit htere are some STACKED teams this year.
I'll go with
1) Kuroda/Nitto/MOV
2) Rikimaru/Momochi/Boss
3) KO/Ochibi/Tokido
4) Kokujin/Haitani/Nuki
in this order

After your retirement from TL duties, on numerous occasions you've been posting like a dick. It will take me too long to list all the threads, NeverGG's "Jaedong fancafe" comes on top of my head but I'm sure there is more.

Anyway, what do you think of the elitism in TL ? Does it have future on our forum since the massive wave of new sc2 posters are generally unfamiliar with the history of TL and its folklore for that matter

I hope he is barred from all esports competitions, at least those than take place in korea...

I sometimes get spurts of anime watchign sprees (2003, 2008, 2010).

There are series that I like, then there are series that I think are quite well done, but aren't really my taste.

ie: Gurenragan I thought was very well done and the VA was good too, but it wasn't really my taste.

So if I had to list the ones I both "like" and think are well made, it would be

Macross Plus
Giant Robot OVA
Cowboy Bebop
Full Metal Panic (Seasons 1 and 2)
Code Geass S1 (S2 had major issues but was better than the average anime imo)

also I have a thing for G-Gundam lol.

Aristotle, but I'm basing my judgement on "impressions" rather than concrete knowledge of either of their accomplishments . I really should know their stuff off the top of my head huh... TT

Batman.

Hitler. He DID resurrect Germany after WWI plus had some baller charisma going. X_X

Churchill.

Blue (the color of clothing I wear most often )

Paul Simon imo

Hamlet. BRUTUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

Chocolate. PB is gross to me personally.

It was pretty much about the name of the thing "beyond the game". Obviously you made your point but NeverGG was unaware of WCG and the whole story, so it was all unintentional to call the cafe that way. nevermind.

Can you define the TL's standards of posting? Do you think the quantity and the quality of the information in the average TL post is more important than the way this information is presented. I'm talking about the moderation in our site. Whats your opinion about it and how things have changed in the last couple of years ?

I'm a big Brutus fan too. I think he's my favorite Shakespearean character. He's so haunted in a homoerotic kind of way.

Anyway! I like asking you questions <3

Watched any SC2 yet? Thoughts on the game? Are you hopeful it can live up to BW or still skeptical?

ohh right, thanks for the reminder.

Quality of posting has gone down, but this is probably a function of dilution rather than the absolute amount of "great posts" going down. It's just harder to spot great efforts by users, so we're left with the impression that things are going downhill. (particularly to us old geezers of the site X_X)

I don't think posts have to be long to be great, but fwiw PGR21 has some ridiculous post length minimum, plus new users cannot post for 30 days iirc.

I remember back in 2006, I was deathly afraid to post at all b/c I knew jack shit about broodwar. IMO the moderation is really lenient now compared to the past. If we had the sc2 forum style posting going on in the broodwar section back in 2005/2006, I'm sure the banning sprees would have been epic. But I guess things can't be the same when the site is becoming so much more public, and once again has a sponsored team and the like.

You know it's bad when many veterans and staff members (to be unnamed) openly admit to ignoring the sc2 forum because it is so painful to read.

Man war3 is just so terrible to watch as a spectator. I have respect for the game and its professionals, but I think I'd play, watch, and cheer for sc2 over war3.

Anyway! I like asking you questions <3

Watched any SC2 yet? Thoughts on the game? Are you hopeful it can live up to BW or still skeptical?

I think my favorite shakespearean character would be from "A Winter's Tale". I thought that story was quite good :O.

Thanks for the encouragement

I watch sc2 quite a lot actually.
I'm disappointed at how unexciting a lot of the games turn out to be
I'm not sure if it's b/c it's hard to tell wtf is going on under all the graphical jizz, or if the gameflow just doesn't lend itself to epicness.

That being said, I enjoyed PoltPrime's builds in the ro64, and the ro32 games have been pretty solid in the GSL.

I'd still watch a Pro Broodwar match TvZ over sc2 any day of the week though.

I have my hopes though!

K. New set of questions.

1. Do you have SC2?
2. If you do, can I add you lolz ;D
3. What are your computer specs?
4. If you don't have SC2, will you be getting it?
5. What are your feelings on the way blizz is handling DRM (ONLINE ALWAYS? WTFBBQ!)
6. No lan? What do you think about this?
7. If you don't have SC2, was the lack of online features part of your reason to not buy it?
Lol :D

1. nope!
2. if I had sc2, sure
3. intel core 2 duo 2ghz 2gb ram, dell laptop. I dont really game anymore so this suffices for my purposes.
4. I doubt I'll be getting it, esp since none of my computers can run it.
5. The fact that you cant just hook up a bunch of computers in your friend's basement and LAN all night is really an erectionkiller . I understand why they're doing it, and that it makes business sense, so I'm torn.
6. yup, no lan is just so fail
7. I have to say that the lack of channels DEFINITELY demotivates me from buying sc2.

Do you agree with me that with the way things are now, we should just call "General" "World News", and call "Blogs" "General"? Cause that's basically what it is. I mean theres a riddle thread in blogs. And a thread about tea bagger winning elections in General. I have more reasons.

Yea, I definitely do.
General used to be where to get the lulz, now it's definitely in blogs (which sucks b/c bumps dont show on the sidebar in blogs). Btw there have definitely been discussions on this whole general/blogs forum situation before (I think it was like 18 months ago).

4) Kokujin/Haitani/Nuki
in this order

lol i went with kuroda/nitto/MOV too. i haven't watched 3S recently but hearing it from issei in person and the amount of past videos of him raping with characters like Q he's probably the best

btw my favorite is probably everyone's favorite brown urien ^^

also do you play any other fighting games?

edit: can't say ken cuz chun and yun still in the game :p
<- plays a boring runaway "spam c.mp activate GJ" yun T_T

RX? Great choice imo <3
I used to play GGXX back in the day but not anymore.
I have 4 copies of 3s so I doubt I'd ever really play another fighting game

lol that style of yun is called "masturbation yun" in japan

lolwut

and yes RX. he's a hero hehe

So yea, that style of yun is called "Shiko - yun" and Shiko refers to the sound phrase, "shikoshiko", which is used to signify masturbation

The general trend with former hentai manga authors is that they are great at drawing but god awful at writing stories (ie OhGreat, Utatane Hiroyuki, et al)

I have no idea who either Faye Reagan or Stoya are, but from a quick google search I guess I'm going with Stoya. Oo I mean they're both pale sure sure, but their looks differ quite a lot since one is redhaired while the other is darkhaired.

I was in Charter, then went independant my Sr. Year with about 20 friends (I hate the idea of Frat Rush / hazing / bicker)

Interesting story... One of my good friends roomed with Will Venable his freshman year (current SD Padres outfielder). Someone got arrested in TI for ejaculating on a passed out girl, someone got suspended for a year for taking a crap in Quad's cereal (LOL), a good friend of mine was in the Princeton Streaking Club - he used to get mad at pple who left shards of glass on the ground b/c then he'd have issues running around barefoot in the rain lol.

The more money I have, the more I would work hard to avoid taxes, so Monacco.
I'd have residence there, citizenship in a non-US country b/c US taxes expats living abroad, and I'd live there till I die while travelling around when I felt like it.

sport - playing soccer, watching baseball (even though I'm best at golf...) Also rowing is enjoyable

I watch both western and asian porn depending on the mood. Currenly in Japanese porn mood.
If I want the "pornstar look", probably Otsuka Saki atm, if I'm looking for the "girl next door" type, Kawashima Azumi.

I wasn't criticizing your choice Kimaker, I was just making a point. I liked your thread a lot btw.

Next time you're in a western mood check out Stoya and Faye Reagan. I heard some dude on the internet thinks they're pretty hot.

Who's your favorite SC2 player? Besides starcraft, what game gets you most nostalgic? How did you first get in to Starcraft? Who's your favorite shout caster?

That is all.

EDIT OH WAIT: Civ 5 or 1.1, whats more exciting?

depends on the mood, whether I want to watch a good ol' non-brain-intensive action movie, or a more thought provoking film.

Definitely a fan of "The Rock" and "Dark Knight", but also films like "The Truman Show", "Little Miss Sunshine", etc.

Come to think of it, I'm not THAT big a fan of the blatant humor films, though I enjoy them when I end up watching them. (so basically I usually won't go out of my way to go watch it)

I really should watch more classic films.

haha will do

sc2 player... I think I gotta go with intotherainbow. Just b/c he was so awesome in broodwar.

games and nostalgia...

Gameboy: tetris, zelda - link's awakening (I actually like the japanese title better, which translates to "the island that dreams"), SaGa2 and SaGa3.
SNES: FF4-6, CT, bahamut Lagoon, Seiken Densetsu 3, Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time
PS1: FF7, Wild Arms, Arc the Lad II, Popoloclois
PC: Diablo II, War3, C&C Red Alert (first RTS I played I think), Myst (man I was like 4 years old and didn't understand a thing), Some Indiana Jones game for the mac back in 1990, The Amazing Machine (god this game was so sick back when I was like 8 lol)

SC - korean friend @ college played zerg and I couldnt beat him so I was looking for vods to help me and I found TL lol. After a few months I was beating him down lol.

Shoutcaster - Day[9] and Artosis are the best english casters period. Everyone else is way off in the distance, including Chill, Tasteless, etc.

I hate 90% of post 2000 japanese artists.

Favorite artists are:

Yamashita Tatsurou
Matsuyama Chiharu
Anzen Chitai
Moriyama Naotarou
Spitz
Pre-2000 Mr. Children (Bolero album is so fucking good)
Field of View
Sing like Talking
Chemistry's first 2 albums (before songwriter changed and they went to shit)
Hirai Ken (although I think he's terrible at singing lol)
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra
Asian Kung Fu Generation (tho they're really hit or miss these days)
Original Love

I guess I'll stop here for now.
In general I only like artists who are actually good at music.

Oo oh man silver screen.
You have to be so good at "acting" when certain elements are taken away from you.
(when you have no voice, then your body motions better be damn good)

The other side of the voin is voice acting, where you dont have your expressions or body motions to help you out :O. You have to really overact, which is why Japanese actors doing VA are TERRIBLE fuck lol.

I rarely watch football, much prefer to play :O. In fact I dont even have a favorite team or player.

Western porn stars.... hmmmmm well my favorite Playboy model is/was Nicole Lenz, does that count? I cant really think of names for western pornstars atm ><. hmmmm How about that girl who is/was dating Carlton from Fresh Prince?

my apm was like 170'ish when I was playing my best but let's say like 120-130?
I dont think I'll ever play sc2 tbh, I'd much rather play friends on konadora's maps in broodwar.
sc1 team... so I was a Lecaf fan till they cut Anytime
After that, no idea.

At least as a spectator, right now in 2010, Korean broodwar is far superior to SC2. I'd rather watch a korean top amateur play Broodwar than watch a sc2 match.

Yes... During my time in lecaf I almost had 0 break times. I kept overworking myself over and over until I came to a breaking point. I just couldn't handle it anymore.
-Did you ask your coach to extend your break time?
Yes, and he gladly accepted my proposal. But during my long break I would see my juniors practice all day. Whenever I see them practice and play live games I always think to myself "damn I can do better" or "if I was back in my prime, he would be my bitch." And I just wanted to play again. I wanted to regain my status as the great protoss player.

=p how do i figure out what i love

Hmm, I think if you encounter something that you want to spend your time pursuing further and further, without someone telling you you HAVE to do it (ie you read a book b/c it's an assignment, rather than b/c you want to learn about what it says), then you're on your way.

For instance, I knew I always wanted to go into high tech business. In order to prepare myself for this, I majored in engineering. However, when I worked as an engineer, I found that I really was not interested in the science itself, but rather, what the science could do for people and customers. Hence my interests shifted rapidly towards product marketing, which is midway between engineering and pure cosumer marketing.

Hmm hopefully this helps.

What I can tell you though, is that if you try to make a living at something you dont have a passion for, you will never be happy with what you spend the majority of your waking hours doing, AND because you wont want to voluntarily put in the extra out of office hours into your discipline, you will never be good enough to excel in the field, which compounds your problem by making it impossible for you to rise up to a position where you can take on responsibility and carry out truly meaningful tasks and decisions.

What kind of lab? Chemistry? Biology? EE? MechE? Computer Lab?

The only thing I can really say is "make sure to follow directions really carefully", and talk to the Lab person (teacher, TA, etc) in order to make sure things are going right. It's their job to help you out, so use them :O

I think you'd have a business if you made copies of that external HD. 1 TB costs about 100$ now. Take maybe a couple hours on a non essential computer time to transfer them over. I know I'd be willing to pay 200$ for that hard drive. Fuck Incontrol was payed thousands to fly to middleofnowhereastan and teach someone how to probe split. I have no doubt people would buy your massive collection

I caught up on the rest of the thread. The more school I do the more I think the only thing I love doing the most is playing music. I feel like I'm just doing college to keep my parents quite. Should I try to get into music school next year? Just say yes please.

You go to one of the top ivy league schools Princeton and did a degree in engineering. So my question is as soon as you graduated, were u able to find a job in engineering right away earning a ton of money yearly? I'm asking cuz I'm also doing enginering(Industrial for specific)and my main concern is that I NEVER had a job before so I have 0 working experience and basically playing sc has made me do nothing but stay home and do no extracurriculars and just studying and playing games..so my resume is looking blank.

But ppl told me I'll be able to find a job easily if I'm doing engineering but I want to hear what you have to say directly having "princeton" on your resume.
We have competitive ladder, strong community, progaming in Korea going strong, perfectly balanced game..why do we need sc2? #1 ANTI-SC2 fan

I've been to.
USA
Mexico
Japan
Korea
China
Thailand
England
Scotland
France

I've been to a few more when I was younger, but since being acutally mentally capable, I think this is it tbh.

I'd like to visit singapore since I'd be keen on doing business there I think.

I have no idea what's @ iceland other than the fact that the greenery seemed pretty beautiful there :O

I'd try hard to get internships at such companies during the summer. (Mightyatom's blogs are a good place to look for reference in being productive with your time)

What I can tell you is, if you use on-campus recruiting, then it's 10x easier than trying to squeeze your way into the job market after you're "on your own" so to speak. Take advantage of career fairs, your college career services, etc. Also, it's so much easier finding work at a company that is located near your school than otherwise (this is why studying abroad makes things complicated...)

I'd do it if not for my conscience... X_X.
If there's demand for this I guess I could arrange for it (btw I stopped storing vods after like early 2009 or something fyi)

Ok, iirc there are a few music school guys on TL (I distinctly remember someone who played the Sax?). I don't know how hard it is to make a living from music, other than that it must be fucking hard ><. I had some music theory major friends at princeton but they've gone on to do other things in their lives. Only guy I can think of from my school who went on to have a career was David Carpenter, but then again he's like the #1 Violist in the world... X_X.

One thing you could consider, is going to a "normal" 4 year program, BUT one that has a strong music program in both performance and composition. This would allow you to further your music while also exploring other areas.

If you can make a living from music though, that'd be really sick. I know some pple in Japan who are able to subsist through their recordings and sales at Events ><

Pretty fullblown.
Cause was frustration at my lack of ability to carry out necessary duties, and a feeling of hopelessness towards the situation I was in at the time.

I've cried now and then over the years, but most of the time it's because of frustration over my inadequacies / shortcomings rather than say, sadness.

hmm, Ride of Valkyries I think.
Though I played the best on Neo Forte lol.

buffet eh, if it's buffet style ... prolly the kimchi? I'm a fan of the beat sprouts they give you w/ your meal @ korean restaurants.

I watch Major League Baseball by far the most often. Hometown team is the Giants so I root for them (even though they have terrible position players usually X_X)

imo if your ID suggests, then you'll have a much easier time learning japanese than a western counterpart b/c words and grammar are somewhat similar. \

As for learning, I imagine whatever curriculum is commonly used is best. B/c I'm a native speaker, "how to learn" the language is something I really don't know about T_T sry.

Wait what is this GIF supposed to mean?

I think I "used" to be a coke guy if anything (though I drank sprite in my youth).
I drink soda maybe once a year for the last 6 years or something now.
The drinks I drink are usually water, ice tea (nonsugar) or milk.

Sugars are unnecessary for you!

First, this depends a LOT on your situation.
Are you a student, are you asian, are you SE asian, are you white, are you black, are you old, are you young, are you wealthy, are you poor, do you work in Japan, do you work for a foreign firm, do you work for a Japanese firm.

All these factors will heavily influence whether Japan will be "nice" to live in.

The simple answer is, nice to live if you aren't working. Bad to live there if you're working.
Amenities are nice, everything is clean. Service is #1 in the world imo.
Expensive though and pple suck at english.

+ Show Spoiler +
If you're a foreigner a lot of places ban you. The sex industry bans you. If you're SE asian pple will look down on you. If you're korean or chinese, people will probably look down on you behind your back. If you're white, you're god. If you're black, girls in sluttown, Tokyo love you.

Rent is ridiculous in Tokyo fwiw.

I have had Laocian, Thai and Korean food, and they seemed a lot alike but fairly different from Chinese food. How does Japanese food compare to Chinese or Korean.

Have you ever had spicy raw crab, if so what did you think? (my favorite oriental dish after the TLAF favorite Kobe Beef)

lastly, what dish would you recommend I try that is often overlooked?

Thanks

I hope I didn't because it's currently not the case (well it was a few months ago for sure).

However, most video games are terribly boring to me atm, nothing keeps me interested for a prolonged period of time.

The flavors in Japanese food are much more subtle and reserved. You taste the ingredients themselves more than the flavors that are given to them post-mortem.

Nop never had raw spicy crab

I assume you mean japanese food. Japanese food excels in the quality of the ingredients and making that the main character of its dishes. I would avoid anything complex and go for the simple things. That is why sushi will never be matched outside of Japan.

Anyways, I think going to a proper Tempura bar (one where they make the food right in front of you) would be a good experience for most people, and should be edible to most. (since many people would frown upon raw ingredients)

Hi Neo!

wowoowow, I am so slow. Locked had to point out this thread to me, rofl.

Sup Hajime, we never talk anymore.
When are we meeting up for lunch/dinnar? :O

wowowo Does Locked even post anymore? lolz. ^^V

Yup, we never talk anymore
Hmm, well I'm around! But I hate eating out!

Haha, not really. A lot of us are either Admins now or perma-lurker, like me (the latter). Seems like how our group went. Locked and I play League of Legends, along with a few other from newbleague.

I'll say hi to you the next time I'm on gtalk. I see you on aim from time to time. Will say something next time, stranger!
Want to cook for me? :3

I'm not sure if I understand the parameters of the question completely, but I'll say the gun since it seems like the bullet is a kamikaze pilot.

I think I was originally good at numbers/math b/c I attended 6 days of school (5 days of US, 1 day of Japanese school) and was taking double math courses. In both schools I was fortunate to have friends/classmates to compete with in one way or another.

I wasn't a particularly spectacular student till 7th grade, when I got a B in math for the first time ever. It was a wake up call that I needed to figure out how to study (also I think I got 79.6 in History and narrowly missed a C). My friends were getting 4.0's so i KNEW I could do it as well. I somehow figured out how to study for tests and from there on it was basically figuring out "the system" teachers placed on us, and operating within its rules. (btw back in 5th grade I got like 36 on a take home open book history test lol)

To this day I don't think I'm naturally brighter than the average person. I do however work 2-3x as hard as the average person usually. (though I have periodic burnouts...)

I did academic work after athletics for something like 6 hours a day during HS. NONE of my friends in College worked like this - most of them just shot the breeze.

Also I was blessed to have some Great teachers along the way. 5th and 6th grade Math teacher, 7th and 8th grade Grammar teacher, etcetc.

Hmm... well, hope this answers the question somewhat. Good Environment + Competitive nature I guess is the short answer.

God I was so fucking sad when he lost the 5th game like that.. TT__TT.
He had by far the hardest path to the Finals too. GGPlay - GoRush - Midas, while Nada went through TT - Zergman - Goodfriend... holy shit lol such lamers ><

I'm currently taking Japanese at the intermediate level (4 semesters of language required) and I'm contemplating whether or not to take 2 more semesters to acquire a minor in it. I'm wondering if it's worth my time at all since I don't know when that minor would ever come in handy.

On the other hand, I'm really all for learning more Japanese because I'm really interested in Japanese culture due to excessive anime and manga exposure. Should I just pursue the minor or continue learning at my own casual pace?

imo the minor is only useful if you're going to actually use it for something / need the "officalness" of it.

Although it could conceivably motivate you to continue your studies, if you are the type to find it difficult to self-motivate yourself to study languages. I can definitely tell you that college is the least expensive place to learn a language.

Not having ample moderation when we first started the sc2 forums remains the biggest mistake to date. We needed 20 moderators, not 2. The place is a shithole and many respected longtime TL members refrain from reading its contents. I myself have all the sc2 tabs closed.

I assume you mean dialect in Japanese... I speak the standard version, though I can mix some weird western endings in at times if I choose to.

Probably agnostic...
I have largely Christian morals.

I have a distaste for people who push their religion onto others (i.e. try to convert them).
I had a long time TL member directly tell me that I would be going to hell b/c I was not Christian. I wonder if that kind of behavior makes them happy... ~_~

I, for one, relish at the opportunity to save my fellow humans from the pain and agony of everlasting hellfire. Any Christian (who believes in heaven and hell) who doesn't actively seek to help his fellow man find salvation is a selfish sicko, IMHO. Of course the effort can be less obvious than going door-to-door, such as causing life crises to foster conversion or kidnapping atheist/Jewish/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/Sikh/etc babies.

Anyway, questions:
You mentioned "weird Western endings" in your Japanese, can you give some examples?

Do you regularly browse any Japanese sites? I know you did some funny 2ch translations, I'm curious if there are any other sites worth going to for entertainment.

Can you describe your Christian morals? How do your morals look when compared to the ideas of secular humanism?

A bit more private/ignorable: I dunno if you answered this before, but what kind of work do you do now? Do you enjoy it? Is it a career or a stepping stone or a "imma get some money as a safety net then do more interesting stuff"? (this is mostly relevant to my interests because I'm a lost college student ;____;)

Bachelors in Electrical Engineering
Masters in Technology Entrepreneurship

Resigned from my previous position as an R&D Engineer last year. Wanted to transition to a more market oriented role rather than a pure technical role. Starting soon as a Marketing/Engineering role at a startup in Silicon Valley. Definitely no longer interested in doing development/design work.

One of my biggest regrets is that I was SO convinced that I knew what I wanted to do for the next 15 years, back when I was like 16 years old. Because of this I feel that I didn't explore my interests and other fields of academia as much as I could have back when I was in college. The roadmap that "looks great on paper" can quickly turn to the worst idea ever, if the criteria just don't mesh well with who you are and what your desires are.

Do what you love, or at least "like", because you need this in order to put in the work that will make you great at it, and in turn that will lead you to success or money or whatever you're looking for.

Tuna, your questions are a bit harder to answer so let me mull them over for a bit~

I'm born and raised in the Silicon Valley @ California.

I assume you mean dialect in Japanese... I speak the standard version, though I can mix some weird western endings in at times if I choose to.

What high school did you attend?

o.O your site gives me the funny feeling that it's a pixel or three offcenter to the left. Maybe it's just an optical illusion or the way I prop my laptop on my lap...

Also, are you capable of speaking English like a Brit?

If so, I'd be highly amused to hear a recording of you trying to mix that ability with spoken Japanese.

Although I haven't heard haji's attempt at a British accent, I would say that he wasn't in Londonland long enough to pick up an accent. Last I met up with him, he was still speaking Yankee tongue.

Unfortunately no, I did not pick up the Queen's English while I was in England.
A shame really, since it would have surely helped me in the bar scene.

Then again, I don't wish to do down the road that Madonna has taken.

Why are you so smart? ^^

I was going to ask where you got your ridiculous work ethic from but this might answer that question, if it doesn't I'd like to hear any elaborations.

If you could learn a language (assuming you'd have lots of time etc) what would it be and if you had to recommend a language to someone else would it be a different one?

I think work ethic naturally arises when you're able to work on things that you truly believe in or are interested in. During HS, I had an incredible work ethic because I would do everything in my power to get into the best university I could (which in turn, I believed was in my long term best interests). However, during college I felt massive burnout because I didn't have a particular concrete "goal" to strive towards.

Currently I find myself without necessary such a concrete goal, but I instead pursue intellectual interests. These include finance, marketing, data visualization, programming, self reflective writing, design, and reading, among others. I average something like 3 hours of "productive time use" outside of my "job". I think we can all develop great work ethic in areas that we identify with personally.

At this immediate moment, I spend the most time reading online (hacker news is a great aggregator), reading books (god bless amazon), and writing blogs. I don't always update my TL.net blog, but I write something new for my personal blog (link in sig) every day.

<hr>

As for language, I believe that anyone in business who aspires to be on the world stage should learn Mandarin Chinese. Even if you can't use it "at a business level", being able to speak the language casually will go to great lengths in forging a bond with people from China. Now keep in mind that if you do business in China, you MUST have a Chinese native on your team. However, knowing the language, I believe, will be invaluable.

This being said, the most important language in the world for the foreseeable future will remain to be English. Anyone who is not a native speaker of English should constantly strive to improve their English. Whether you like it or not, it is the world's language.

Settlers of Catan

Street Fighter 3, 3rd strike
Tetris
Final Fantasy VI
SaGa 2

The Naked Lobster Sandwich at "Old Pro Lobster Shack" in Redwood City, California.
The Toscano at A.G. Ferrari's in the South Bay Area, California

Do great things that others don't think of, or are reluctant to do. Continue to do these things on a consistent basis, regardless of the immediate appreciation you may or may not receive. Some of the things I did include: translating 2chan threads, writing generally high quality material, live reporting nearly every BW match for a good number of months, uploading VODs to the tracker as well as for particular threads, starting various thread initiatives, being part of the TL Travian team, etc

I would advise anyone against "giving" electronic storage material to anyone else, since you have no idea what's in the trace data left over.

Would I be willing to have him copy the data over? Why of course.

In no particular order:

Yosemite, California - Amazing natural beauty.
Kyoto, Japan - the history and the serenity.
Kauai, Hawaii - the place is a jungle. It's awesome
Shanghai, China - the rapid development of the city, the ridiculous wealth, and the contrast between the finance district and the more traditional areas are both awe inspiring and frightening as one who lives in the Western world
Paris, France - Nowhere else have I seen such a high concentration of beautiful people

In general, I'm a fan of nature over manmade architecture. Keeping this in mind, the places I'd like to visit are:

New Zealand - for its untamed nature
Argentina - to forget about life for a few months and have fun while I'm still young. Also, to hang out with Intothewow
Singapore & Hong Kong - A place I would consider living in the future, so I want to see it with my own eyes again (I was too young to remember)
Vancouver - I hear it's a beautiful and relaxed city, with a moderate climate.

While I was a student at Cambridge, I visited Midian once in his home town. All we did was drink and talk for 8 hours. We are awesome like that.

Make the subject somehow matter to you.
Some methods include:
- being interested in the subject
- knowing that the material will be useful to you in the future
- knowing that the grades matter to your future

Unless you have some reason to study hard, the vast majority of us can't do it, including myself.

Found a great explanation online.

That is why the mainstream press and the general population has talked so much about Steve Jobs' death and comparatively so little about Dennis Ritchie's: Steve's influence was at a layer that most people could see, while Dennis' was much deeper. On the one hand, I can imagine where the computing world would be without the work that Jobs did and the people he inspired: probably a bit less shiny, a bit more beige, a bit more square. Deep inside, though, our devices would still work the same way and do the same things. On the other hand, I literally can't imagine where the computing world would be without the work that Ritchie did and the people he inspired. By the mid 80s, Ritchie's influence had taken over, and even back then very little remained of the pre-Ritchie world.

Nothing too drastic.
Got drunk after Hall once and passed out in the college courtyard in a suit.
Went to rowing practice the next morning, still drunk.
Common occurrence .

Are you a student there by any chance?

I was in Charter Club for my Junior year.

I have mixed feelings about them. They're a part of the college culture and history there, but they undeniably perpetuate the class and social divide on campus.

Their main benefit is that it contains the debauchery to one location, which means that there are no drunk driving accidents and any emergencies can be tended to very quickly. On the other hand, they cost high 4 figures (or more) per year, which many students cannot afford. It is dominated by a partying and promiscuous culture, which again, many students do not identify with.

If you're the partying type, it serves its purpose very well. I'm sure the institutions are a well oiled machine for churning out one night stands. If you're more reserved, then applying to Spellman with a group of friends will serve you better. (which I did for my Senior year).

The adventurous and irresponsible side of me sometimes wishes that I had "taken advantage" of the opportunities that were there at these eating clubs. But had I actually leveraged my position, perhaps I would be regretting that fact now. Hard to say.

It's surely better to make alcoholic or sexual mistakes during your college life than your post-college life, but whatever you choose to do, do it because you believe in it, and it's what you want to do.

How do you define "best"?

If it's money, there is no doubt in my mind that it's on Wall Street (or at a a Connecticut hedge fund).

However, if you're looking for career satisfaction and intellectual fulfillment, your choices become entirely personal.

This icon actually seems to add a rather negative tone to most of my posts (Particularly for newer users), so I'm actually rather torn as to what to do with it.

I think life is meant to be enjoyed. The specifics of that enjoyment depends on the person though. I think many of us are forced into norms and acts that "society at large" pressures us into, without ever asking what we truly wish to do, which is a shame.

I really don't know, because I don't know any good browser games. (I'm sure there are some out there, but I've never played them).

I'm not entirely sure where to draw the line between electronics and electrics. I will certainly read a lot of books though.

1) I'm totally uninformed. (I am somewhat aware of How Angela Merkel's party has been losing elections in Germany though)

2) I have no idea who the candidate even is. All I know is that Sarkozy has a desirable wife.

3) When this happens, I will buy more bank bonds / preferred stock.

4) no Idea what the reference is

conclusion: I am a country bumpkin.

I think that recognition is just as much about personality and character as it is about concrete "contributions".

But anyways, here are some things I can think of that I did.

TL Travian team contribution
VOD Upload (Download from Korean sources, then upload to the tracker or to special threads uploading old vids from time to time)
Live reporting (circa 2007, at 2-6am EST lol)
TLPD alpha
Writing Staff (Battle Reports, TLFE, etc)

I was head admin because I was promoted to the position one day. :O

I was wrong.

Question time: What is the most surprising book you have read? For example, one you thought would be crap but was excellent or visa versa?

Hi Haji Sorry if these have been asked in the preceding 20 pages, but i guess this it the nature of the beast.

Do you still have such a negative position towards the SC2 forums? Or do you think there has been an improvement?

What sort of things do you currently do for TL.net?

What happens when your post count hits zero?

Why did you chose that emoticon as your icon?

Back in 2003, Moneyball was all over the news. I didn't read it at the time, but figured it wasn't really good b/c so many people were shitting on it.

Fast forward to 2011. I have read the book, and it was a great read.

1) I don't know, because I don't read the SC2 forum at all. (I haven't read them since early beta, and they are collapsed on the sidebar for me). Actually, the only sections that are not collapsed are "BW Tourneys" and "Health and Fitness"

2) Nothing. I chime in on a few things on the staff forum now and then. My current objective is to write quality blogs for people to read, because the blog section is one of the last sections of the public forum that I love.

3) A meteor hits the earth (oh wait, was that supposed to be yesterday?)

4) There was a very sarcastically condescending thread, and I made some exquisitely elitist remarks in there . One of the posters quoted me and pasted this smiley as a reply. I thought it'd be hilarious if I had this as my icon, so I asked and got my request
