I am late to the party. I have crashed it somewhat. I am one of the few who just got the new StarCraft game. However, I have kept up with all the news on TeamLiquid on StarCraft 2. Everything from tourneys to strategies, from cool custom maps to single player reactions. But during my browsing I have seen one topic discussed over and over again. I'm sure many of us are tired of hearing about it but allow me one chance to discus the issue one more time. That issue is the Terran "imbalance".
For the past month or so, I have read nearly every thread regarding this issue. The whining threads to MasterAsia analysis of the match-up. I don't really have an opinion on the "imbalance" issue as I play Protoss. I have, however, commented on the ZvT issues in the past. I would post that people needed to stop complaining about the match-up and proceed to play the game. After all, is no race superior in StarCraft. That's what I thought at first. I would take all these "Terran imba" threads with a grain of salt, not really paying much attention to them. But these threads would not stop. It was almost like the herpes virus; you could supress it, but never truly be rid of it. And now it seems that there IS a true "imbalance" issue in SC2. Zerg players are now commenting more on the problem and a few have even switched to the "imbalanced" Terran.
Now there have only been three patches to the game so far and none address the "imbalance" issue that many have seen in the ZvT match-up. Will Blizzard fix this issue in the future? Will they nerf the Terran so that all three races are equal once again?
The answer is no. At least, not right now.
Am I insinuating that Zerg players claims, saying the Terrans are an overpowered race, are false? Not at all. What I'm trying to get across is that when you, as a StarCraft player, say that one race is overpowered or that your race isn't powered enough, nothing happens that changes the game in your favour. You could post a thread on this site right now saying that the Brood Lord is a very overpowered unit, it should be nerfed and nothing would change. People will comment, people will agree or disagree with you but in the end, the Brood Lord remains the same.
To put what I just said in other words, your complaints about the Terran being the superior race are falling on deaf ears. Nobody is doing anything to fix the problem. You can shout as loud as you want but Blizzard won't fix the "imbalance". I realize that people want to be critical (after all, there wouldn't be a problem if there weren't critics) but I don't think starting threads is the best way to go. So what can Zerg players do? Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to that question. But I do know that complaining or critiquing on TL is not going to change anything.
I don't like to beat a dead horse, but this is just how I feel. You're allowed to have discussion on this matter but in the end, what comes of it? We can all agree (or most of us) that Terran is "imbalanced" but at the end of the day, it's still the same game. Blizzard is making way too much money right now and they're not going to change anything unless sales dwindle. Maybe one of us could start a petition but again, what good would come of it?

Blizz is supposed to be doing a balance patch soon..
otherwise i dont think they will listen, (they havent about balance at all so far)
|
why do you think they wont listen?
this is the largest Starcraft community in the world. tournament results, pro players opinions on matters are posted here all the time... this is the one place blizzard WILL be looking for sure when they are asking for outside influence.

I'm pretty sure the blizzards devs read TL, so chances are the complaints aren't falling on deaf ears. If anything, they're probably just taking their time in order to get it right the first time since now that the game has been released they can't just experiment freely.

Blizzard wants its players to be happy and wants the game to be a competitive esport. They are one of the best companies when it comes to listening to its community. People enjoy talking about the game they love anyways, whether it accomplishes anything or not. And I don't see how having a discussion about it is somehow equal/worse to not saying anything, people debating both take something away from the discussion.
Also, as tired as I am of imba threads, I am tired of "I'm tired of people taking about imba" threads/blogs

It's better they wait and make a really good balance patch rather than make knee-jerk fixes which completely fuckup the game. While it's painful to lose to some truly awful Terrans abusing their race, it's a necessary growing pain for the game to get better. Have some faith -- I do!

Aren't the balance patches just part of the journey?
I'm sure this has been said before...
It shouldn't really get to a Zerg player if he or she thinks his/her race is underpowered. People in the future would know "oh he/she was a great player, but Zerg was underpowered at the time. "

However, to be competitive is to "min/max" your way to victory. It involves doing whatever you can to obtain victory. If Blizzard refuse to patch or make things balanced again, all the pro gamers will eventually switch to Terran, as it gives them a greater chance of success.
In my opinion, it is crucial to make the game balanced, or else we'll be watching TvT for the next 10 years. (ETA for SC:HoTS)

What do you mean blizzard won't fix imbalances? I'm just glad blizzard acts smart enough not to be one of those "balance-shifts-entirely-with-every-patch"-designers and with good patching over time I'm sure sc2 will turn out fine. It's a process, you don't balance a game overnight.

Blizzard is taking as much time as they need to get things right. It's in their best interest to have the game be as balanced as possible.
It's not even been a few months yet.

I completely agree with Plexa. It will be balanced in good time. For all we know there some some weird breakthrough builds that make Terran under powered!
+ Show Spoiler +Probably not, but you get the point

It would be naiive of us to assume a game this new is balanced. Right now its obviously not. That being said, Blizzard will path in due time, and you really gotta let the game play out yet. Theres so many unexplored openings and unit combos. We can't just be like "race X is winning more, nerf please". Gotta give the game more time to develop instead of making knee jerk reactions.
Keep in mind in brood war, it took Zergs 8 years to discover how to micro mutalisks, and 9 years to realize 3 hatch was the most solid ZvT opening.

Didn't take Zergs 8 or 9 years to be able to go toe to toe with terran players though, luckily in BW all the races progressed at around the same speed, each of them had their advances by the top players every once in a while.
Also, I'm really liking this meta-petition, it's pretty much a petition to create a petition! mindgames...
