There is one great interview where he tears the shit out of a hedge fund manager or something of the sort, for lying to the public. I dont think the whole thing made it to air but it's on the site. He had the guy almost crying.

he's a very intelligent and compassionate guy too so it's always great when he brings a message across

I still hope John Stewart will give up the daily show one day and start a more serious political show. He's a great interviewer and political analyst and also by all appearances a genuinely great guy.

Cramer wasn't a hedge fund manager for years preceeding the crises, he was just a financial advice host on CNBC. He did advocate buying all the way to the bottom though, and I think he really does regret being wrong about it. And I think that's why he was so emotional about it. He went on the show knowing what was coming, and knowing that he was at least partially responsibility for a lot of lost money by a lot of people.

Edit: I think Stewart doesn't start his own 'real' show for a few reasons. Everyone in the mainstream media feels this obligation to provide 'fair' coverage to all sides of an issue, even if one side is clearly wrong or misleading. With the platform he has on The Daily Show he's free to point that out and express his true opinions. If was a member of the traditional media he wouldn't get as much access to politicians as he gets, he wouldn't be able to be as opinionated on the issues as he is, and overall I think his effectiveness would decrease dramatically. No one pays attention to the other relatively liberal media people anymore.

I was friends with Jon Stewarts nephew in high school and Jon actually came during our senior year and just had a talk with the student body for a couple hours, he's such a genuine guy, and afterwards I met him, shook his hand, he's just an amazing guy.

I've thought this stuff too, and I think he's brilliant, but I really think the whole 'sitting in the back of the country snickering' is what really works for him. He's more effective there.

Real journalism--not the shit that Fox puts out, or even the opinion that sometimes get injected into CNN and other soruces--isn't meant to have personalities and his is just too damn good to have go to waste on reporting news. Perhaps as a columnist/commentator, but I just really think he loses a lot if he goes that route.

I think what's also scary is that a lot people (not you two, obviously) don't realize that he and Colbert are both 'sit in the back of the country and snicker' people and not real news.

There's room for opinions in real journalism as long as you don't try to pretend you're neutral and give the other side a chance to give their point of view. I think he'd be absolutely great as the host of an interview show. It would probably be very entertaining as well, I tend to find the interviews the funniest part of the daily show.
