When the planes hit - I was in school and couldn't really understand what any of it ment. I thought it was pretty cool, because we all got the day off... I guess with me being in new zealand... and not watching much TV, I never really understood how it affected New Yorkers when it hit.

This was the first time I saw this video, it's pretty damn good.

Jon Stewart is one of the few good men out there. He is a prime display of how you can love America without being a total cock about it.

I was actually in elementary/junior high school when this happened, the building is few stories high so we actually saw the 2 towers emitting smoke. Coincidentally during that period my teacher's husband was working there, pretty emotional stuff. But I wasnt a even a teenager yet so what do I know. D:

It was pretty wild when the white thick smoke blew across and basically shrouded our school.

Aside from all the emotion attached to the day (my HS was close enough that a lot of the students had parents/etc working in the city and some in the WTC) there were also some very interesting occurrences. Planes were grounded all over the world which allowed an unprecedented study into the daily effects of airplanes on the environment. Schools found themselves faced with a very difficult question of how to react to this event... and most weren't prepared. Some schools sent kids home, others refused to let the kids out. Some made an announcement about what was going on. Others (many) tried to keep it a secret until the kids were dismissed.

A tragic and interesting day.

i actually came to the US in June of 2001, and when it happened i was in highschool. I did not understand what happened and neither did anyone i know, partially probably because my english wasnt on the level, but also because the principal of my school didnt understand what happened either. I actually was sitting in school even though they dismissed the classes because when i first entered the school just a few days prior(starts on september 6th)my guidance counselor told me i cant leave school until 2:30 or there will be repercussions!:D

On the way home i had to cross coney island avenue, for those who know, and if you stood in the middle of it(and you could because there was no traffic for some reason- they closed down major streets i guess) you could see giant monoliths of smoke all that way from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

Didn't really feel much on the emotional level, although consciously i was sad for the lives lost. I guess it was because before i moved to America i grew up in a country closely related to Chechen war, and all the atrocity i've witnessed on the Russian news desensitized me.

Watching Jon Stewart sad makes me sad though. On the emotional level. Had a moments or two where i felt like shedding a tear there. While I try to look at all the tragedies that occur as a bystander its hard to maintain any sort of distance when you witness a person who's emotionally invested in it on personal level.

so true

i never miss his show because even though it's comedy it's the only real truth out there.

There is one great interview where he tears the shit out of a hedge fund manager or something of the sort, for lying to the public. I dont think the whole thing made it to air but it's on the site. He had the guy almost crying.

he's a very intelligent and compassionate guy too so it's always great when he brings a message across
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Oh goodness me, FOX tv where do you get your sight? Can't you keep track, the puck is black. That's why the ice is white.

Did you happen to see that total ass-hat John Gibson actually mocking John Stewart and calling for another 9/11? It was sickening. But yes, John Stewart is such a good guy and that speech did bring tears to my eyes.

I can't believe that it's almost a decade since it happened. I still remember the day vividly cause we weren't told what was happening but our social studies teacher broke out a radio and we listened to people talk about it right after the first plane hit. And then the second one did. Shit got real, I think that day I really understood that I was an American citizen cause of how I felt about the whole thing even though I wasn't born here (got naturalized the year before though)
Haven't you heard? I'm not an ex-progamer. I'm not a poker player. I'm not an admin of the site. I'm mother fucking Rekrul.

I never saw this clip. Jon is real. We need more real.

I remember hearing about the first plane, then the second. And how a third was near Pittsburgh. The conjecture by the radio announcer was that this third plane, if it couldn't reach it's intended target might choose the highest building in its path. Everyone in Pittsburgh thought of the US Steel building. The police started evacuations and blocking off streets.

My only concern was how am I going to get my son and wife out of here before all of our escape routes are blocked off or hopelessly jammed. It was a horrible feeling that at any moment the most precious people in my life could be taken from me.

As you all know that third plane was brought down by the heroic actions of the people on board.

It was a decade ago but I can still feel that sick feeling in my stomach.

And Jon is just as real today was he was then.

I was at highschool (in NY, about an hour commute to NYC), in the science lab doing an experiment when I found out. In retrospect, I am surprised how calm and quiet everything was - although it wasn't announced by the principal over the p.a. until the afternoon. I didn't see any of the videos until I got home, and even then it had a spectacular otherworldly effect seeing the buildings collapse - even though it was very close to home. Nothing really made sense then.

Didn't visit the WTC for several years, but it was still a depressing pile of rubble fenced off.

I starting paying a lot more attention to the news and history class after that, however.

Mr. Stewart is one rich television personality I can respect.
