actually, after seeing the cinematics and the political themes in SC2, it makes alot of sense to ban the game in PRC.

i know that alot of ppl in US or EU would be like "WTF??" but really, the game content is pretty typical of bannable materials in the PRC.

err wtf i'm chinese and i find this comment offensive.

i may be whitewashed, but i really don't think china is that behind in cultural/political acceptance in this day and age.

well i m ethnic chinese too and i've came across materials banned in PRC and found SC2 to be in line with the PRC censorship policy.

some of the violating materials include...
1. Kerrigan nude in the end. While not hardcore porn, would still be deemed inappropriate. Similar example include censored version of Lust: Caution.
2. Scene of Tosh dying. Considered excessive blood and violence.
3. Raynor's group leading a rebellion against a dictatorship that uses censorship. There are many films with this theme that were banned in China. Ones I can name includes Road to Republic and Qin Song.

But back to what OP was asking about, I've checked out some Chinese sites, it appears they recommend getting the enUS version or the TW version. With the US version, they recommend tools to "liberate" your copy of SC. with the TW version, there is currently a free trial going on until Aug 31, 2010. I believe you will need to connect to the TW server.

GODDAMN spoiler your shit you fucker.

SEA server lag is playable. I am using a 100 Mbs line and it is working fine. The trouble with the SEA server is the relatively low skill of the players ( not that I am very good ) and the fact that it is underpopulated. I am just a casual player though and SEA will eventually open up to NA version so I don't mind it for now.

(And yes English windows 7 is necessary in my experience)

There must be like 0.01% of chinese who can have a 100 Mbps line...

I have SEA version and play in guangzhou. but im wondering how I can go around buying the taiwan version, since reading some of the plu forums it seems a lot of local chinese people play there. Was looking around and all I could find was to buy it off the plu website. so if anyone has the taiwan version in china, tell me how you bought it please<3 Want to play on both servers.

I'm in mainland china, and some places where I play pool also have internet cafe style sections (ok just rooms of 20 computers). People are always playing Warcraft 3, Counterstrike, and newer games I don't recognise -I assume by LAN.

So far, no sign of SC2, but I live in hope. Not sure the internet connections are up to standards for playing without LAN - which makes me kind of sad. Still, it'd be cool to have a bash at the single player campaign while I'm out here.
It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it.

I'm interested to know what version of the Chinese Windows 7 you had trouble with. Was it Ultimate? Ultimate is supposed to support every language possible. I'm not sure if this will help or not but it might be worth trying if you wanted to try and get it working on the Chinese version of Windows.

Allright I have a similar problem. I just arrived in China and will be here for some time, study Chinese language.
I want to play SC2, and so far I know it's not available on the Chinese market. I'm considering buying the TW version but my (traditional) Chinese is not good at all.
I acutally have several questions:
1. How is the TW server? Busy? Laggy? Anyone with some experience i'd appreciate a short response.
2. Can I just go to tw.battle.net create an account and download the game, login and play? Or is there something special I have to do?
3. I understood from the EU/NA/TW battle.net website that only traditional chinese is available if I download the TW version. I found on the TW battle.net forum 'Blizzard heard our voices" regarding an English language pack, anyone got more updates on this? Or know an easy work around to be able to play in English?
4. I will have a Chinese computer with Chinese windows

Any reply with some information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm in Mainland China and I play SC2 fine on the US servers.

I'm using a MacBook Pro which was bought in the US. I digitally downloaded SC2 at the time it was released.

I've had no problems until the latest patch. All of a sudden I seem to have much more latency and trying to micro is just ridiculous.

OXB I read somewhere that the TW servers are empty. Not sure if you already went ahead and bought the game but could you let me know if that's true? I was thinking about buying another region's version because the latency with the US server is just bugging me.

OP did you ever find a solution? Would you mind telling me how you have a 100mb connection? The highest they offer where I live is 4 no matter how much I ask....

@CrimsonStrider: he just mistyped it, there is no way anyone in China has a 100mb connection. You should probaly know it by now that China internet sucks so bad.
Dont know about the retail version of TW server, but I used to play the beta in Taiwan server. It lag alot unless you buy a VPN service which is about 30RMB/month.

If anybody else in China that want to play SC2. If you already had an account with the game, simply, just log in and play. Ping to SEA and US are fine, some spikes but playable.
If you want to buy SC2, first learn some chinese, or have your chinese friend go to taobao.com and buy it for you. Around 450RMB depend on what version you are getting.

Of course I know the connection here is bad =). Though I find it really hard to believe that there's no good connections *anywhere* for *anyone*. Whether it's reserved for big companys/government leaders/other people of importance, this country must have something better than 5mb (which is what my ex is using in another province). Maybe not 100mb, but still...

Still better than Australia though. Man I hated using internet when I was there. Capping yourself off sucked, and it was pretty easy to do.

Anyway back to the topic...

I've noticed a lot of latency since the newest patch was implemented. Before I'd never see myself "lagging" but now I see it quite often. It's also become nearly impossible to micro. Have you (Caphe), or any other players from China noticed this on the US servers?

Caphe what VPN are you using? Is it good for gaming? It seems wonderfully cheap, so it's hard for me to imagine it being a solution. Is the VPN only for playing on the TW server or would it help with playing on the US server as well? Access to youtube and every other such thing as well?

I didnt play SC2 that much recently(got Civ5). I played some games on the US server just a few days ago though. I got some spikes, a little bit of delay bug very playable. I play both US and SEA server with a 2MB China Telecom connection without VPN.
I bought a expensive VPN to the US but it's worse than playing w/o VPN.
As I said from my experience playing on TW server works best with VPN, but Im not sure which one.
And yeah, a 25RMB VPN will grant access to most blocked sites in China such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter etc...
From what I heard and my personal experien, if you're playing on US/SEA server. Its better w/o VPN.
