Songs that you become obsessed with - songs that you play over and over, on your iPod or your pc - are not that few and far between. They're like mini-phases that you go through and after you've been through them, they're either discarded or possibly remain a significant entry on your playlist. From first hearing these tunes to the eventual decline in interest, you grow to learn all the intricacies of the songs, with this familiarity possibly leading to contempt. Multiple plays a day, however many days each week - you may notice how repetitive some songs are (e.g. for me, Where We Belong - Lostprophets) and can even turn great pieces into ignored slots in your library. On the other hand, these songs can give you an insight into new artists, allowing you to discover new bands that you may otherwise ignore. Song obsessions are not a sign of a one-hit wonder artist - I may not explore the full catalogue of said artists' work - but are the pieces to which I would give 6 stars, the defining anthems and the gems of albums.
With that, I start my series of 'song obsessions':
Can't Go Back - Primal Scream
Primal Scream; a band name that's been around for a while, but a band I have mostly ignored over the few years I have existed on this earth - I have their 'Greatest Hits', but even that is rarely listened to. A Scottish alternative rock band formed in 1982, they have released 9 albums. Can't Go Back is a single off their latest album, Beautiful Future, and is used in the film Kick-Ass. (great film btw)
Can't Go Back is a very energetic song and it's definitely one I'd put in a 'psyche-up' playlist. The opening hook is extremely catchy and is put to great use, and it hits in all the right places. Of course, having said that, I'm sure I'll find it annoying within the next week or so.

I'll be doing more 'song obsessions', maybe posting them on here.
