Hello, hopefully you've enjoyed my previous music samplers (although they were all korean music). I was going to do more Korean Music, but I recently got a lossless copy of the entire Ragnarok Online OST. This can only mean that I would share the awesome music found in various video game OSTs, possibly music you've never heard of.
In general, I'm going to avoid popular videogame music unless I find them really really good enough to share (ie: No Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, or Xenogears and such)
Ragnarok Online
The OST that triggered this entire ordeal. I grew up with this game so it'll always have a special part in my brain, as I crave the game so often that I often go back to it just to grind and kill stuff. It's addicting and the music adds on to it.
The music track that is pretty much my favorite is called "Monastery in Disguise". It's the music that plays in the Nameless Abbey, and a song that I'm used to hearing since I used to leveling here and camping Beelzebub here :D It's definitely one track I'm super excited I found a good mix of.
Also includes Wanna be Free (a song strangely not suited for WoE), Nano East, Theme of Al de Baran, We have Lee but you don't have, Yetit Petit.
Guitarfreaks and Drummania
I will admit I have never played this game in my life. Yet, I love the songs on it. I found the OST because a friend asked me to get it, and pretty much found one of the songs to be one of my favorites of all time. The song is called "The Least 333 seconds", an extended version of the 100 second version you can actually play. I don't think I can describe this song, try listening to it!
Also included is Captain's Voyage and Concertino in Blue
Chrono Cross
I did say no popular music, but I take every opportunity to pitch Time's Scar and Time of a Dream as the best tracks ever.
Super Robot Wars
Super Robot Wars normally has remixes of famous robot theme songs, as they normally feature these robots in play. However, they did create some original robots, and their theme songs are just too amazing not to share.
Of course, you can't mention SRW Music and not mention Trombe!, the song that overrides everything. Basically, Super Robot Wars is a tactical RPG, where you move robots around, and when the robots engage, you get stuff like this
Pretty much the most hotblooded thing you'll ever get the opportunity to play. Speaking of which, SRW OG1 and OG2 are released for the GBA in English, so check them out
Included are a nice selection of songs. I could link to videos of robots blowing things up all day but I don't think this is the blog for it.
Oh, and Dark Prison is awesome.
Phantom Brave
Fun tactical RPG for the PS2, completely overshadowed by Disgaea. It's okay that it's different and the system is a bit glitchy, it's a fun game with great music.
Included in Angel Breath, the game's opening song, Snowberry, and Violet Emotion, the game's final battle theme song.
Lufia 2
Honestly, the only reason I was excited for the Lufia 2 remake was for the updated music. Sinistral battle theme with decent instruments? Yes please! Sadly, it has completely and utterly failed to meet my expectations, and Lufia 2, despite being old, and stuck chiptunesque but still significantly better than the oversynthesized bullshit from the remake, has one of the best music I've ever heard from a video game.
To the Future is also the best ending theme in a video game ever. It's also so very sad. I almost want to replay Lufia 2 now. I would also stream me doing the World's most difficult trick but I'm too lazy for that.
...and random Remixes
Videogame remixes are quite popular. Okay. I lied. This isn't only videogame remixes, but I also included remixes to two songs from Anime -- the Bokurano OP Theme "Uninstall", arranged in Piano. I hate the original song, but the arrangement is amazing! Also included is Natsukage, a song from some dumb anime based on AIR (which sucks, KEY anime sucks blah blah)
For the actual video game remixes, included is SSH's remix of Fighting of the Spirit, a remix I like a million times better than the original. The same goes for the Battle theme from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, the Final Fantasy we'd all love to forget about if it wasn't for the kickass music.
Some nice picks on here. I do honestly think that Chrono Cross has the best sound track of all time. Chrono Trigger is obviously up there too, but Chrono Cross is one of the most beautiful games that ever released on the playstation. The artwork is absolutely incredible and the score is magnificent. Here's a few of my favorites, possibly not as well known.
Legend of Mana - Opening theme:
Xenogears - Omen
Xenogears - Awakening
Xenogears - Shevat, the Wind is Calling
Ace Combat 4 - Megalith
Ace Combat might be the mother of all amazing sleeper soundtracks.
I could honestly go on for years about video game music, better stop now.

Ace Combat 5 and Zero had some sweet tracks.
I'm a big fan of anything with the Spanish guitar, they managed to weave it into Zero very well. It's sort of a shame that Zero wasn't as good as 5 though (which is still the top game in my view).
I recommend it highly as its extremely nostalgic as well as sick to listen to
Edit : And also to add to the Ragnarok Online love, my favorite songs are : Al De Baran, Theme of Lutie, Peaceful Forest, my private server had this sick remix of We Have Lee but you don't have, Streamside, Purity of your Smile... actually most of the songs...

I've played the DS remake a bit and I have to agree, they totally butchered the music. Every track has been flattened and monotonized. The repetition grates. A straight port to handheld would be so much better than what we're getting.
Ragnarok Online will always hold a special place in my heart.
Peaceful Forest and Streamside are pure nostalgia, as well as Al De Baran (of course), I Miss You, the Title theme, Uncanny Lake, Steel Me, and of course Prontera (who didn't spend hours upon hours in that city?).

Uh, what?
That was just an exception I threw in so I could get away with CC OST.
CT OST is pretty damn good though :D
The primary strength of the Chrono Cross soundtrack was its allusions to the Chrono Trigger soundtrack. Don't you think it is a little bit weird that you explicitly mention the latter as something that's popular but not good enough to share, and then promote two songs from the former with the least original material?
Assuming that the second song you mentioned was meant to be The Dream that Time Dreams, anyway.

It had SOME allusions to CT's OST. I wouldn't say it's the primary strength at all. CC overall had a much more solid OST than CT's anyway...
CT's OST was one of the most popular OSTs that I know for a fact that people have heard. I don't think I need to pitch Battle with Magus or Chrono Trigger a million more times.
Echoing the love for Ragnarok Online's music - as a whole, I feel it still has the best BGM of any MMO i've played. A song not listed that I feel is deserving is Brassy Road: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQBJHuTgTm
To be honest, though, 80% of RO's soundtrack is absolutely fantastic, and it's impossible to narrow down what I really love. The only other soundtrack I feel has really come close to RO's is Final Fantasy XI's, and that's in large part due to The Star Onions making it about a hundred times better.

The two songs you chose borrow large passages from the music of both Chrono Trigger and Radical Dreamers though. Besides, Chrono Cross as a whole was designed to allude to Chrono Trigger. Instead of a direct sequel they made a game that references and reminds you of the original and that clearly extends to the music. It can stand on its own as a great work but that doesn't really change anything.

If that is in any way true then it is because it contains some of the strongest melodies from the first two games. I enjoyed the Chrono Cross soundtrack immensely but to hold it up as better than the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is almost on the level of calling a remix album or a greatest hits album the best work of a band.
