I was competitive counter strike for the longest time and then into cs: source for just as long always going from team to team not finding one that was as serious as I. With sc2 I guess now I don't have to worry about the skill of a team anymore since I can now play for me. Today I woke up watched a day9 vid from the 22gb torrent of his sc2 vods while practicing my openings with terran and protoss using the build order tester and by the end of that vod. After the vod, I really fell more comfortable doing my build and building placement used to make me think on the spot a lot. I write this blog as a promise to myself to continue with my routine to find ways of making it better to prepare for phase 2 or if phase 2 doesn't include me then Ill be ready for the release. I already paid in full my sc2 limited edition and do plan on playing strictly the single player at release until I finish which then I'll hop onto bnet 2.0. I have not found a way yet but I do also plan on purchasing a copy of EU sc2. Seeing as blizzard may or may not give us cross realm play anyways no point in hoping for it i guess. Pending on how well my offline training goes and what happens at launch maybe then I would have to join some gaming organization to help further get noticed.

be prepared to lose. a lot. sc isn't like counterstrike where you at least you get gratification in shooting someone and contributing to the team. it's 15 minutes of all or nothing and it feels terrible when you get nothing 5 times in a row.
the world's a playground. you know that when you're a kid, but somewhere along the way everyone forgets it.

The single player will not help you get better at competitive SC2.

Units, abilities, and upgrades will be different. AI also never plays like people, the timings and habits you develop are likely to be irrelevant. Don't expect too much (anything) from your 'offline training,' hop online and play real people from the get go.

If there's an offline multiplayer training mode, it might be worth checking out but no one knows.
Slice like a goddamn hammer.

Why buy EU SC2? Better to get the Asia version if you only plan on getting one more and you're actually serious about getting good. Despite what some people may say, Koreans still dominate the world.

And yeah, what silencefc said.

@mahnini I lost a lot sc/bw and just as I was coming around in both match ups beta came out. In cs it was never my shot that got me threw matches it was more game sense.

@nttea thanks for the support =] I've always looked at everything I do with a real competitive attitude. My freshman year of high school my home room teacher got me to try tennis with my best friend and we figured just our chemistry and we could own in doubles. It wasn't that. It turned out to be our love for showing up the kids we knew paid for lessons and/or played since they were like 8 that truly fueled us for state every year.

@silencefc I understand but its the love of the game reason why I'm playing strictly the single player first but I really do appreciate the input.

@zoler ty for the support <3

@Never are you the toss player I traded replays with? Also you're totally right. I've never in any game used internet or servers as an excuse for my performance. In cs people LOVE to cry about bad server registration I don't think latency will be that much of a factor with my new internet.

@anyone who questions why I dont just quote. cause i can =p

Goodluck man, dont let anyone tell you to give up or stop trying! I think especially at first a lot of the broodwar players will have a big advantage though considering SC2 is like broodwar on easy mode. Even D+ on iccup could bring you far into diamond/platinum league.

@silencefc Actually, I've heard some progamers practice their builds and macro against the AI.

SC2 is a 1v1 game and CS is a team game. There also different genres. So comparing the difficulties of the two is nigh impossible.

So, wait, you're telling me you want to be pro at SC2 and you're studying Day9 replays (from beta) like they are a calculus textbook? If there's anything else you can do in your life right now, I suggest you do that.

this could actually be true, allthough i have only casual gaming experience from cs 1.6 i would imagine the skill level of long time gamers would own me ridiculously over over and for a loong long time. Broodwar and quake3 still beats cs 1.6 though ^_^

SC:BW > CS:1.6 > SC2

In terms of difficulty.

Difficulty for what? To beat a single player campaign? To beat player X? It's all relative. Given roughly the same competitive environment, there is no more or less difficult.

Keep in mind -

people taking sc 2 seriously are like coat hangers. No one is really sure where they came from or wtf to do with all of them. It's all about results.

That being said, good luck! I love when people get dedicated.

Play BW.

All the practice you'll ever need. It gives you so much better multitasking and attentiveness.

Well, if you consider the time invested into becoming good, sc2 could be harder than CS. I used to play CS (until 2002) and with a proper environment you can get good relatively fast, probably 2 years or even less. With bw it was nearly impossible, with sc2 it could be hard too (depends on how you define good), because every B- and above player that switched from bw will have at least a 4 year head start on you in terms of mechanics. Old wc3 players count too.

I think sc2 would be a lot easier to get good at than BW at this point in time. I was never that great at BW, but I always wished I had gotten in right at the beginning so I could participate in the discovery of the "official" strategies in each matchup.

I'm really excited now that I have the chance to get into sc2 at the very beginning and experience the evolution of the game.

GL in your quest!!
Work hard and never give up.

Versus the average player or team. Getting into upper diamond isn't much of a feat, and even though CS's run is near its end, the skill level of your average CEVO-M team is much, much higher than CAL-M teams were 5 years ago.

The same thing happened in BW.
