Long story short, my laptop keyboard broke, I decided to get my old keybaord out. Turns out that it's the DT-35, the one that everyone wants or something.
However, mine's really old and it has the PS2 connector. Since my laptop did not have the PS2 slot, I got into the hardware bin that my dad used to keep, took out a green (meaning mouse generally) adapter (PS2 to USB) then plugged it into my laptop.
I tried everything, including pluging in the keyboard before the computer boot up. However, when I plug it in, it just flashes 3 lights once (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) and then does nothing. It doesn't even get recognized by the computer, and I cannot use it.
I'm using Vista at the moment.
Did it fail because I used the mouse adapter, or did it just fail?

It won't be the adapter.
Try installing the drivers for it from the manufacturer's website. If that doesn't work, it's kaput
|
Also, forgot to post this:
BIOS did not recognize my keyboard when I went into the settings. Now, I heard that changing the USB recognition from OS to BIOS works, but I can't find that option either.

Go into BIOS and search for the option called "USB Keyboard" try switching it from whatever you have to the other option.
PS whoops nvm looks like you just tried to do this.
|
Well, if I remember correctly, only one that related to USB was the Legacy USB support, which was Enabled.
I think I'll try to disable it when I come back, but from my knowledge this won't really do anything

I had this exact same problem a few weeks ago (with a different keyboard) and it turned out to be the adaptor
|
anderoo: when that happened to you and plugged in the keyboard, did the keyboard lights flash?
|
Usually you can use a adapter to change a USB mouse to PS/2, but PS/2 to USB for Keyboards is gimmicky at best.
Even if you did get the hardware detected properly, there's a good chance that it'll be dropping keystrokes and things like that.

So basically I have no use of the keyboard anymore unless I get a computer with PS/2... right?
|
or buy a correct adapter...
