After dealing with multiple weird Galaxy Editor bugs such as having all of the units models randomly being replaced by Ultralisks - true story, by the way - I managed to conclude my first SC2 map. It's a single player RPG called Khaldarys Sector.
Seeing as so many people are going oveboard with FPS and side-scrollers and everything, I've focused on something with a RPG storyline feel to it. The great challange in Khaldarys Sector is actually controlling your units - including 4 heroes that cannot die - and outsmart the mighty Zerg Swarms infesting Khaldarys Sector - Gnoll's Infestation and Xaorn Brood.
I consider the map to be 70% done right now and this alpha version features the game all the way to the first boss. Of course there's a lot to go but I think it's a funny little map so far. Well, I'd like to hear you guys opinion's on what I've done so far and what should be considered for the rest of the map...

Of course there's a lot left to be done but the main core of how things work is up and running, I hope to complete the whole thing soon - maybe even make it a campaign or come up with some online mode? Who knows. I'm having a blast either way.
See you and post your opinions!

Looks really great, downloading!

Okay, there are alot of places where I think a unit or hero's name should be displayed, but it doesn;t actually work, it just says param/value.. (the rest is unreadable). Also, did you incorporate any text, as in dialogue? That doesn't seem to be working as well.
|
minus_human I'm pretty sure I uploaded the correct file and that it's not corrupt - it's working fine here - but in fact I experienced the bug you're describing in the past. I'm not 100% sure what to recommend if you keep gettting it... It just shouldn't happen would love to know if anyone else is experiencing any bugs...
hint: easiest way to play the map is to drag-and-drop the map file onto StarcraftII.exe - It'll launch itself and run smoothly.

Sorry I downloaded it again and it's still the same. I really want to play it, the terrain design looks awesome!

Wait, so how do we play these custom maps?
|
Load it up in the map editor and use the Test Document function which can be found in the File menu.

I've tried this, and loading the map directly with SC2, and each time the units' names and any other custom text or bars that should appear say param/value/5342342... . Does NO ONE else have this problem? I have a legal copy of SC 2 and I can play on B.net Euro just fine. I just upgraded to patch 11, didn't work in 10 as well.

the hero names and such seem to work fine for me, but there's absolutely no dialogue/text (not even when the unit portraits etc show up)

Ok - FIXED - If you were getting the localization / param/value/ bugs earlier, I ask you to download again, specially european users. Hopefully it'll be fixed now and you'll be able to play no problem!
Waiting on some opinions. Thanks a lot!

Thank you zazen, I will try it in a bit, I'll leave some feedback then

sry for the noobish question but how do you play the map? like where to save the file? i havent got a clue
|
Save the file to comp, right click>open/open with>browse>select SC2 executable, which is in the game folder
|
I think the easiest way to open it is to drag-and-drop the map file directly onto StarcraftII.exe - this will open the game with the map loading itself instantly.
Still waiting on feedback!

I have the same issue as the other fellow- no matter how I open it, I have no dialogue. Haven't played it yet as such.

Works fine now btw, awaiting full version!
