So two weeks ago this website was having a really nice sale on a Radeon 5850 card with the Dirt 2 game included in the package for $30 less than the next lowest price for the card ($270). Sounds like a great deal? It is! And I was all over it ordering it right away. Money deducted from my account the next day and the deal was done.
One week ago they informed me not that it had shipped but that it was in backorder and they would get it back to me as soon as possible. Then they mentioned that I could cancel the order at any time if I didn't want to wait for it. <- This is a key part of the email, that the option to cancel is mine.
Today I received an email saying the order had been cancelled because they did not have the item in stock and it could not be delivered to me 'in a timely manner' not letting me decide whether to wait longer.
This is fucking unacceptable. Not only are they trying to weasel out of selling the card for so cheap but they are lying as well. The card plus the game are still up for sale on their website and the deal has been changed to $20 more than it was before. And now they're refunding my money.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10012428 [EDIT]Update on the item, after my complaint they marked the item as 'discontinued and told me they would not be getting anymore in stock. That's nice they waited two weeks to reflect that on their website instead of having their inventory linked with their website so it can be retroactively reflected whether or not they have items in stock.[/EDIT]
I sent in a complaint but until I hear back from them I highly suggest no one buy from these ripoff artists.
I say ripoff artists because if I were to buy the card again I'm forced to pay $20 more than before. While thats not unreasonable price to ask for it I'm not about to fucking give my money to a company thats going out of its way to screw people over. If I can't get what I ordered from them at the price I paid then I'm going to willingly pay $20 more to buy the card from another site. Preferably Newegg because I know they won't try to fuck me over.

bait and switch
send a report to the BBB
|
Yea that sound like BS. They decided they didn't want to sell it so cheaply when they saw so many were willing to pay up... I don't buy a ton of computer stuff but I've always used Newegg and have always been 100% satisfied.
|
Yeah I normally use Newegg too, and I was almost going to buy this from Newegg for $300 w/ free shipping. But when I saw the same exact one for sale elsewhere I had to take advantage of that.
Sadly Newegg has it priced higher now, it seems like the card was on sale everywhere a couple weeks ago and is no longer priced to sell.

FragKrag, I'm going to wait and see if they respond to my complaint and send it to me. If they don't then I'm going to make sure to get as many people from buying form those bastards as I can and get it off Newegg.

Great way to make money..What assholes
|
Well, the powercolor cards are ugly anyways :<
|
Well its going to be inside a case on the floor, not like I'm going to stare at it all day or anything. The reason I wanted the powercolor card over other ones is because its already setup for OC, its got a larger fan than the standard models, and it has some copper tubing to help transfer the heat away faster.
|
Already setup OC is actually pretty useless when there is software like MSI Afterburner running around on everybody's computers. I'm pretty sure every single 5850 comes with copper heatpipes, and it's not like the 5850 is a card known to get hot anyways!
|
Well they just responded and said they won't be carrying the item any longer and actually just updated the website to reflect it as 'discontinued'. I'm still pissed and I still suggest no one ever buy from them.
And no, most don't come that way, FragKrag and I was considering over clocking it further.

I had a terrible time with them too. I bought a bare hard drive and an enclosure. 2 weeks later the enclosure shows up but no hard drive, because they decided to cancel that part of the order... real classy guys
|
I'd still buy that exact card from tigerdirect and use bing to save 12% saves you like $33
|
Not sure what time frame you want it by, but I'd just register an account at slickdeals.net and create a deal alert for "Radeon 5850".
|
deals like that got him in trouble last time =p The zzf deal was FP
|
that sapphire card is ugly too
why do you like ugly cards

As well as submitting a complaint with the BBB, submit one here. First I've ever heard of the CNET Certified Store thing, but if you can have their status of a certified member revoked, go for it.
Also, they list that they're a Shopping.com trusted site, so here's a customer service link for them too:

Personally, even if they honor their listed price at this point, I think you should file complaints with every site you can to begin with; they've already shown that they're a bunch of assholes. I'm not going to say any other site would have honored the deal if stock sold out beforehand, but given the situation, I'm sure a good number known for their customer service would have. As this site apparently has all these awards, they should be held to a higher standard, and this is far from acceptable behavior.
