So 3 days ago I'm a middle of the road silver zerg player who can't catch a break. I'm generally between rank 15 and 20 and I can't seem to break that barrier.
I end up going on an 8 loss streak. Just getting destroyed over and over again and my rank falls back to 20. I'm angry, my hands are shaking. I'm wondering if I'm actually going to get better at this game. So the next day I come back and watch replays of all those losses, and I notice major holes in my play.
Not having enough larvae in the mid game causing minerals to stack up, not having overseer hotkeyed and then losing it. Scouting a two gate chronoboosted and then making drones instead of zerglings and spine crawlers, and just underestimating zealots in general. Just a lot of stupid little things that add up to the same end result, a big fat loss.
I digest it for awhile and then I go back to playing. I win something like 13 out of my next 16 games. Every single game I played for whatever reason I was not favored so when I lose I lose only like 5 points and when I win I win as much as 20 (not even counting bonus points). I'm playing more gold players than silver players. I blaze to the top of silver division.
Then I log in today and have to quit a game because my keyboard was funky and when I left it promoted me to gold. So now I'm middle of the road gold, somewhere around rank 14. This happened somewhere around 101-102 games total so I think it may have been some trigger that I hit at 100, where it then queues me up for promotion and when the division has enough people, it plops me and everyone else into it.
I play one game and I'm favored for the first time in ages and just completely dominate this silver terran by having changelings with his army all game long without him noticing. I went zergling ultra and he just gged immediately when he saw the ultras lumbering toward his nat.
And then it ends, I have no idea how many points I gained but suddenly I'm number 1 gold, after just one game. And not just by a little, I'm 150 points above the next guy. Apparently this division was just created but I got a lot more points than anyone else did to start out.
So yeah, either I must be improving or battle.net is all funky and it is just an illusion. Neato. I probably won't get to plat until the database reset, but it was a fun journey anyways.

Dude same thing happened to me, i went from 14th to 35th and now i'm 15th and climbing haha

i never seen myself favored.... in one game the other guy says "i'm never favored " after the game starts but on my loading screen...it said he was favored...so b.net favors no one and loves to give a lot of points to whoever wins because b.net always says the other guy is favored...

When i got promoted to plat in 2v2, I had enough points to put myself and my partner at rank 9. However, the next day, my rank dropped to sixty something O_O. Everyone's points went up 200. But now, I'm 18th and still working on it ^^

Can't both be favored. If it is giving assymetrical points, that will skew everything upwards so that people who play more will rank higher, rather than who plays better. I'm beginning to wonder if it is a bug, and that's the reason why they keep resetting the ladder.

I went 3-2 in the placement matches and got placed in silver. Until I worked my way up to platinum (from silver to gold to plat), I was never evenly matched against anyone. I've yet to be favoured over my opponent which is awesome since I barely lose points when I lose lol
On a side note, I hate how many points they take off when they upgrade your league. Probably lost 600~ points just for that

It makes a lot of sense dude, 1700 rating in Gold division is probably only equivalent to 1100 in Platinum.

I've been getting a similar win % at 1000~ silver league and 1300~ platinum league Granted, it's probably me learning the game but I didn't perceive any huge skill differential between gold and platinum leaguers.

It used to be 250 points i think per league

The "favoritism" thing definitely seems to be bugged. I haven't been favored in ages too, so I always scored high points and lost very few. Then I asked some of my opponents what it said for them, and the game told them that I was the favorite when it told me that my opponent was the favorite. After the game the points reflected that: I won ~20 points, my opponent lost ~5 points.
This seems to be the case for many people though, so everyone might be getting extra points, which just leads to an overall point increase for everyone but the relative skill display will be similar. Massgaming will yield more points though.
I just hope Blizzard fixes this with the next patch + reset. I thought their rating system was highly sophisticated, but they sure seem to have messed it up big time.
