Over the past week, I have been experiencing the most atrocious internet ever. That makes gaming INTERNET BROWSING TEAMLIQUID BROWSING impossible. Yeah its that bad.
On a good day minute, it can be . and more often then not its like:
It is seriously atrocious. At first i didn't mind it, but it has since become a regular occurrence.
Refer to this for more of my ISP fail + iCCup lag. http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=116247
The lag is soo bad, the lag meter in LoL, is busted cause my ping is off the charts like what the fuck. + Show Spoiler + I'm paying like ~$40 a month for my high speed internet and now i don't think its worth it. my ISP is Shaw, which is based in Calgary. So what I'm wondering is, Is it just Shaw's internet that is retarded? If it is, What are other good, stable ISPs in Alberta?
I'm pretty sure that there is nothing wrong on my end. (but I'm not good with hardware related stuff). Like i changed my 4 year old router for a new one. (I don't know if that even helps). I asked them for help, but it didn't really help.
I hate it.
Like wtf. Super inconsistant.

I still think we coulda won if it wasn't for Afking Morgana :< more gank into push was needed and she was our only true stun :<
edit: thats true prolly coulda actually ganked and such more efficienctly and last hitted to stack your SoTO
This is my internet daily but atleast my ping is fairly decent :/ not like an unbearable 400 thats kinda rediculous for 40 dollars a month I pay 20 and get this and I generally am great :<

If i wasn't lagging it wouldn't have turned out as bad as it did.

That ok? Damn, had to go more than 700 miles.

I was going to post my speed meter (which is a bit faster then your fucked up one at it's best) but i noticed your ping is owning you badly.
Perhaps they are changing something and it gets fixed in a couple of days. In the mean time: read a book, go out and get some exercise and clean up your house because you know you never will.

Problem is that I'm used to fast internet, so when its slow it really pisses me off. I do all those, except I don't really clean up my house. (I have a cleaner person/maid). The thing is Teamliquid is soo addictive, so yea.

Hey cool I didn't know about this pingtest site, thanks

Umm my internet is basically always like this. There is a 100-200ms average ping whenever I try to play hamachi with my friends who are in the SAME CITY as me.
At least you can get 24 on a good day
edit: holy shit how do I have 20% packet loss lol, I should probably talk to my ISP about it
|
pangshai, you probably have it worst then i do. After i read the 3rd link, i was like wow i feel fortunate to be able to have fast internet, and that my ISP wasn't as bad as that one. Having that type of ISP would be torture for me. If i had a bit slower but more consistent/stable internet I would be fine with it. =(
|
so this is when my siblings have torrent on in the other room..
wait what the fuck.....jitter > ping?
Internet sucks bad here. sometimes it's also hardware.
|
Unable to test packet loss wow. If it is the hardware, i wouldn't know how to fix it. =X usually when I torrent my speed is barely affected, only noticeable when i try to game.
|
Hahaha, I don't have a certain Java Plugin they needed so yeah....but I bet packet loss with be more than 100%

Just wondering, is your connection is shared to your whole neighbourhood?
It's so hard to find good ISPs. Around here certain ISPs seem to only cover certain areas (maybe they have deals with each other, there's a convenient lack of overlapping) so people have a very limited choice, and that leads to no competition to motivate ISPs to improve their service.
So my ISP pretty much has a monopoly over this area, at least it's quite reliable and the speed is consistent.
|
Pretty sure its just my house, as my neighbors probably have a different ISP.
|
It's possible they share it over an even larger area, maybe it's just unreliable though.
I just think it's nonsense how then can legally advertise something as a 20 Mb/s connection when they really mean "Maximum 20 Mb/s" or "20 Mb/s 51% of the time" or "20 Mb/s when you're not using it."
|
Yea i know, and apparently there is a different between MB/s and Mb/s too. -_-

I used to think that there was just a *huge* overhead in my downloads. Then I divided my average by 8, then I was like, oh... Never mind.

When I lived in Calgary I was getting massive ping and loss on my Shaw line. I finally got them to send a technician around. It turned out the line had been rubbing against a tree outside the house for a long time and was almost stripped bare. The technician replaced the line (and told us to remind the landlord to get the tree pruned) and after that we didn't have any problems. So, if you think everything at your end is OK (fuck wireless, make sure you're hooked in via ethernet) it could be worth giving Shaw a call.
