I'm not sure if this deserves a post under Starcraft 2...so I've made it under my blog.

When I work with timing attacks/defending against timing attacks, I'd like to see my build works vs a certain time (e.g. - vs Terran MM rush I'd want to be ready by around 8minute mark)

In the original starcraft, chaos launcher's time elapsed function really helps me in terms of deciding when to build stuff. In the replays the time elapsed is always shown.

Why can't they just put that functionality in game so that I can keep track of my build vs time elapsed?

I would say because it makes things much easier. i wouldn't even want it
Executing a build perfect would not be as impressive anymore. (sounds almost like cheating)
Inputting special characters into chat should no longer cause the game to crash.

if Blizzard puts a ingame clock into normal ladder games i think i might stop playing. its already noob friendly enough, they probably wouldn't even know what to do with the clock if it was there -_-

Eh, that doesn't sound like something I'd want to see in game.
Maybe some sort of single player mode where you can check timings and stuff, but not in an online match.

Hmm...seeing how you can setup a stopwatch next to your computer and achieve the same thing, I don't see why blizzard shouldn't make this an option. I really think this sense of absolute timing would be good for tactical development.

I think you pointed out the exact thing - it'll be useful for the people who are actually interested in executing a good timing build, and the casual noobs will simply not utilize it.
I've played enough sc1 games to internalize the timing of things...but I don't see the reason why that procedure is so vital in competitive gaming.

On a bit more of a thought...this discussion can be generalized more into this:

SC2 Gameplay Development: Is it art, of is it Science?
The early days of sc1, the scene was dominated by ingenious artists and the sparks of their brilliance. However, in later stages of sc1, mechanics has become an essential (or should I say, fundamental) skill of a competitive gamer. Nonetheless, the true great players must possess both superior mechanics and brilliant decision making.

All I am asking is to speed up the process of the mechanics with the timer, leaving room for brilliant players to execute their plays.

you just want an ez way out...

try setting up a watch on a televised match - not saying you will ever play one but thats just not the way it should be. If you need it get your watch -.-

Inputting special characters into chat should no longer cause the game to crash.

Uh, yeah, the people saying they'd quit playing, it'd make the game so much easier, etc...

What? I hate to pull the rank card, but are any of you above C-? These are some of the most baffling comments I've ever read. You seriously think it'd have the impact you're claiming? You can get a damn watch and have the same effect. It isn't that big of a deal, and would be an easy feature to add, plus a helpful one to boot.
