You choose one of the workout routines I mentioned and eat enough calories to stay in balance regarding to weight. Somewhere around 2500 calories daily, most likely.

Does it matter at all? i think tbh the best time to work out is when you would actually do it and/or when it works for you. although i believe 3/11 hours after waking might be optimal according to some study somewhere.. but it's no point trying to work out at those times if you can't keep it up for whatever reasons (i.e. your own schedule)

I much prefer working out at home and really at the moment is the only comfortable way to work out.Unfortunately, I'm obviously getting less than ideal results, or rather... none if any. I know I just should man up and get to the gym... especially since its free at university, but until I do, is there any suggestions that you have for working out at home? I have a set of weights but no bench press yet. I've just been doing pull ups, sit ups, and working with the dumbells. And yes I have seen all the extra exercises using dumbells, and I will add them into when I work out... but I just any extra tips to get the most out of it. I used to work out alot in highschool, stopped but have started again. Im also pretty skinny (5 11' and 150 lbs) but whenever i start working out I see results REALLY fast. I have 2 45 lb dumbells and that is all i need. dumbell bench- 3 sets of 10 dumbell rows- 2 sets of 10 (its where you put your knee on the bench and lift your arm one side at a time to a 90 degree angle and slowly lower it.) curls - 2 or 3 sets of 10 50 situps 25 oblique situps on each side (put your leg on your knee and touch the opposite elbow to it slowly) as many pushups as i can do This is all upper body because i dont have leg equipment and I have a job where I stand up for 12 hours at a time + walking miles on campus and such. This workout Is what i do when i am trying to get back into weight lifting. You cant just jump right into this type of thing because if you do too extreme of a workout you will hurt yourself. Take it slow and get a bench!

Scientifically, I read somewhere, when you have food in your stomach, your body will move blood to your stomach muscle to speed up digestion, which makes your workout less effective.

This is very true. Don't eat too much before a workout, save the big dinner to after working out because all the energy from the food will help your muscles grow more too. If you eat too close to your workout you will lack energy because of digestion

Btw, 2 45 lbs dumbbells won't cut it for long with bench. Decent weight for the 1-armed rows you describe. Do you do 2-3x10 bicep curls with 45 lbs dumbbells?

While I hope you didn't start working out and eat healthy a week ago for the beach season, here are some great tips in order to tighten up your diet and workouts fast. I guarantee you that I could make you look pretty good (unless you're a huge blob, in that case read my blog and aim for next year) in 3 months time IF I got to choose exactly what you eat during that time and how you exercise. Provided you don't get sick etc

Seriously, I've got a mad cold right now and it basically demotivates the hell out of me. Should I just try to power through a normal routine, or stop and wait to get healthy, or what? Also, what can I do with an ~50lb barbell (Its 40 + bar, and I have no idea what the bar weighs), cause that is all I've got at home and I don't always want to go the gym.

Never work out when you're sick unless it's just a little cough and sneeze, without any pain or fever. http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html for exercises
