wow i wish I knew how to photoshop (been shooting for 6 months). I really like the first picture of the city. I'm not a fan of the cropping of the second picture. in fact the whole photo looks a bit off... the background of rocks and her clothes dont complement each other imo. maybe if you zoomed out a bit and showed more context. as for the last photo, the first crop is way better. version 2 feels too tight and enclosed. I can't say i'm a fan of the composition though... the window shutters and your pretty girlfriend doesnt sit well with me, can't tell what you're getting at. btw i'm a big fan of your nature photos, are you trying out new subjects (model shoots, street photography/cityscape, etc)?

i am not fan of the post processing on the first one
second one is very nice though, although the shadow on her forehead is quite distracting

I like the picture number 1 more. Maybe becouse the "wood-thing" is not playing as huge big role on it. The idea that there are two things your concentrate on the picture is cool.

The first is better i think it is because of the proportions. Picture 2 looks like it was "zoomed" on the wood and you can't pay attention as much to the girl in the background.

The b+w picture is absolutely incredible. The first of the two looks better, though I can't really explain why, knowing little to nothing about all of this stuff beyond what I learned in IB Visual Art.
Your girlfriend is very pretty, by the way!

I like the first one better. The eye gets drawn more to the girl, which makes the photo more interesting. In the second one, the eye gets drawn to the wooden beam and the girl blurs completely into the background.

I like the original. But that picture reminds me of that joke where it's obviously a picture of something, and you focus on something insignificant in the background. i.e. Girl posing for a picture, and you discuss the species of tree 500 ft back.

Really cool shots and I liked them. I just got a bit creeped out in the last two pictures, her face looks like a joker with a really dark smile coming from behind the wall. Maybe the camera was moving too much? Dunno... Keep posting

Obviously 1. She is more centred and you can see her dress more clearly.

Yes I am trying new things, mostly as a direct consequence of living in a much larger city now, as a student. I'm really awful at portraits, I know, and most of the times I just press the shutter blindly, because I'm a little confused about which angle, distance, etc I should approach. So to put it short, the photos are bad (at least composition-wise) because I'm very much a beginner.

I removed that...
Why don't you like the first one? I'm very proud of it, in the most narcissistic way possible lol. Guess because it's my first urban shot in b/w, a style which I quite appreciate.

well, the distortion is too obvious; this is not really very good for city/archiectrual shots as opposed to landscape
you should have fixed that on photoshop
further, i see a lot of halos around outlines, which indicates too much tonal contrast (bad HDRs always have these urgh) and too much processing in general
i really liked your landscape shots though

I fully agree with the halos, I even mentioned I did a crappy job editing (over-editing).
The distortion is a personal approach, I realize that this may be a downfall in approaching 'architectural photography', but I don't really care

first one is cropped slightly better, but the photo itself is sort of strange. i don't feel like the elements are coming together -- everything is very sharp and geometric except for your girlfriend. it feels like she wants to be the focal point, but the bokeh simply isn't interesting enough for that to work.
the 2nd shot is quite nice though, your girlfriend seems like she is a good model.
