Since the beta will launch this month and I want to play Starcraft 2 without any lag, I thought it might be a good idea to update my system.
So I just purchased:
Intel i7 920 (2,66Ghz) Asus P6T SE 6GB OCZ Tri-Channel Ram, 7-7-7-20, 1333Mhz Sparkle 275GTX 896MB GDDR3
This should run Starcraft 2 on full details and 1920x1080. In addition I'll get a 20Mbit/s internet connection next wednesday so there won't be any lag in online play. :-)
I'm hyped!

you better get your stream set up

The fact that your online opponent's shitty connection will create some lag could be escaping your attention here.

I'll mostly play with allies. mTw / ret hopefully NonY since he also has a key :D!

Q9550 Geforce 260+ 8GB RAM (yeah, I know, worthless) I wonder if having good specs affects you chance to get selected. I believe they want to get tests from alot of different specs, so if there are few with high-end machines... well you get the picture.

Right. you spent 1k euros to make sure you wont lag with those 6 people ^_^;;;

Wow you are a douchebag. Obviously there are more users on the internet that won't lag. Also if their computer is shitty, it lags for them, not for me~
Also what the fuck 1000euros? Are you kidding me-_-

Im Swedish and my internet is horrible, tbh the majority of swedes i know have super shitty internets but that's mainly cause swedish parents are so fucking stupid they purchase crappy internets.

Seems about reasonable for that computer?

NartuO im not denying the usefulness of buying that i7 comp when it comes to SC2. its just that the wording of your rationale for buying it is horribly incoherent.
btw, i am, indeed, a douchebag, but thats offtopic

600 euros maybe
and uh, hes obv excited about getting a new comp that will play Sc2 completly lag-free no problem, I doubt there will be any internet lag issues between europe, north america, just like there aren't any in SC1 between those parts of the world.

Fuck yeah ret, ARE YOU EXCITED?

Congratulations on a new pc, it looks nice Though, im not very good at that stuff! lol :p
And if you should eventually find out you hate SC2 for whatever reason, now you have a good pc to play other games on aswell!
|
Congrats about the new comp... I have doubt whether my current one can run SC2 and don't have a grand to drop on a new computer.

thats probably way over the top for starcraft 2, but i guess its good for crysis 2

since when is buying a new superfast computer a useless waste of money?
god I'm looking forward to all the streams

Jealous!
A few days ago when I did that Windows performance evaluation thing I noticed that my laptop has better 3d performance than my desktop PC. My laptop is 3 years old. FML!

Looks like a sweet rig. I hope that you stream for us. Only a small portion of TL is going to get in the beta, I assume, so your stream would be invaluable. Plus, I doubt most people would have a good enough comp + internet connection for a stream.
|
I'd want a new comp too, but only to be able to stream. And that's really not enough of a justification for such an expenditure. I'm sure playing SC2 will be enough to keep me content
|
I think people are underestimating what connection you need to stream such high resolution games. Even if I record 1920x1080 and only stream in 640x320 it will totally kill my internet I guess. I think I need to stream in 320x240 to make sure it doesn't lag-_- Hopefully you can still tell which unit is which :S

Are you guys kidding me, damn PC prices are low in continental europe, up here in sweden I could easily have to pay 10000 SEK for a computer like that, which pretty much corresponds to 1000 euros.

?! can anyone confirm this

320x280 sc2 stream will be totally unwatchable. i guess 640x480 too. for a decent quality (like 720p) i think you need ~1,5 mbit upstream.

More then that I think actually, I have 100/100mbit fiber and I cant stream lag free 1080p.

As this guy said.
If anyone has played games like Heroes of Newerth, like most modern games, the player experiences no lag because the games are hosted on company's end. Even if someone completely lags out, your connection remains constant.

Why do people think sc2 will require an insane computer when all of blizzards games are notoriously known to run well on crappy machine.
Actually, sorry for my negativism. Guess you can ofcourse also use it for other games. But still.

I don't think Starcraft 2 needs an insane computer, but I enjoy playing it on full details, full hd with no lag at all. I guess you can still enjoy Starcraft 2 lower details, no shadows, less resolution but I prefer to have a good computer :-)!
Also I'll play some other games and have 4 VMWares running on my comp.

this is one case where I really really reaaaaaaaaaaaally hope I'm wrong

that means if Jaedong lags in SC2 he'll lose to a non-lagging Pokebunny?
