Note: I will not mention any date since I have no idea when all this took place. It was at least 4-5 years ago.
The Journey started when a friend of mine told me how awesome Battle.net West is. That he had seen alot of progamers in channels already and even watched a game between TheMarine and Xellos, even though he had to leave after like 2 minutes due to lag issues. I will never forget how proud he was when he told me that Xellos said "[My friend's ID] leave pls~". I, very young and amazed by progaming that time, was all for it. When I started on West I had already an idea about which channels are "gosu" and where all the good names and clans hang out.(thx to my friend) I usually idled in the channels like "op S.G-", "op yg-", "op 3.33" and tried to get games. I barely got any, (got a little bit better when I abused stats with my friend in "2minute comp stomp" games - the koreans definitely looked after stats, not the win-ratio, but that you have some games on the account). I mostly tried to get games against players with well-known clan tags. Of course, that was the reason in the first-place why I went to West. Not that I've got any. I would find out why someone with a well-known clan tag would never play you, but I will tell that later in the story. Anyway, my friend (he was a real-life friend) told me at school that he is trying to join "S.G", that he will idle in the channel all day and eventually get some games. He never did.
I instead liked the idea very much and asked one of the leaders of "S.G" how to apply. They, somewhat amused by the idea that a foreigner want to join their clan I imagine, gave me the chance for a try-out. My terran wasn't really good at that time, but somehow, even though I was terrible nervous, I managed to play the game of my life and was able to beat Devilzerg[S.G]. He was one of the worst players in "S.G" and if I would have lost, I never could have joined. From that point everything went awesome. My new ID with the ")S.G" tag, the one every trial had to use, opened alot of doors for me. (Pro tip: When you ever want to fake a clan ID on West, use their trial-tag. Not only do they exclusively recruit really good players nowadays, but trial-ID's are barely faked and your potential opponents don't get suspicious. - DON'T DO THAT). I eventually changed my ID to German)S.G respectively German[S.G] because everyone called me "german" anyway. Even though I was a (full) member now I was still the one (and only) foreigner. They also somewhat made fun of me. "S.G" does mean "Sweeping Guardian", I found out not before the 3rd day in "S.G", they always told me it does mean "Sexy Guys". I still like the 2nd alot more. When I went to be a full member after 3 weeks of trial, I had to play a few games vs a random S.G member again, I lost as much as I remember, but I didn't got raped so it was fine.
With the "S.G"-tag on my ID, I eventually got alot of games vs really good players, mostly not from "S.G". Of course I played some games with "S.G"-members, too, but I barely had any contact with "S.G" whatsoever, only with a very few players, most of them didn't even spoke english. I didn't really cared anyway, I was so proud of the tag.
Some of the highlights I remember are bunker-rushing JJu and getting horrible raped in the regame. Watching an awesome game of Changwa[S.G] (Terran, I think that was his name) and Pusan on LT. Changwa won after containing Pusan. And a horrible TvP vs yoOn on LT (he wasn't a progamer yet). It was a very weird TvP where we started on 3/9 and I contained him at his ramp, killing his natural and he dropped my main/expansion all the time. I eventually build a CC in his natural, it was the only safe place to expand, but he still took it as an offensive CC and was very pissed.
After some weeks in "S.G" I stopped playing gamers without a good clan-tag. You have to imagine joining a channel and being spammed instantly from at least 5 people for a game. And you haven't had any problems finding a game versus members of GSP, NC or IntoThe, too. My replay ordner was full of games versus well-known players. I had very few replays on Ygosu, too. (just wow, you can't believe how I felt when I searched YGosu for some pro reps and found my own - nowadays I think i got only uploaded because of the clan). Even tho I was very proud of my skill and my "achievements" at that time, when I recapitulate today I never was good, not even for the time.
At someday I changed my ID to Chunjae[S.G], it looked korean, I wanted to integrate more and one member called me genius because I learned a very few korean phrases. When the only member I really had contact to, Random[S.G] [Edit: looked it up, his ID was RunWay[S.G]] (I think that was his ID - not a good player, but somewhat of a clan leader/elder next do Devil[S.G] and Angel[S.G]) was forced to join the army, I decided to leave. Not instantly but after a short time. He was the only one who made me a part of "S.G", he translated the clan meetings for me, where they discussed stuff like finances, clan leagues and so on. All that stuff I didn't cared anyway, but still what made me feeling being a part of it.
After I met a german player on West I tried to integrate a bit more into the german community. I tried to join the ger-team, which never worked. I don't know what exactly happened anymore. As far as I remember I played only one tournament, and lost in the 3rd round or so. As I mentioned before, I wasn't that good, I was only used to korean-style play and I totally blowed in "important" situations.
I eventually quited BW (not for ever, you just can't quit that game for god's sake", gave my German[S.G] account to some random dude. I don't know why I did that. I was young I imagine. My Chunjae account got deleted after few month and some american took it as far as I am informed. I came back to BW several times, never played real "high" again. Joined some clans around BWCL/ICC/WGT Divison 2 niveau. Became a Ger-Team 2v2 player before I "retired" again but that's not what I wanted to talk about in this blog.
I don't really know why I made this blog, but I just thought about it after a long time and wanted to write it down. After all that time I still root for my Sexy Guys whenever someone is playing. Even tho they are not really successful.

Nice story... makes me nostalgic thinking of the stuff I've done, and how pointless yet huge it's all been.

did anyone else find this story very homoerotic?

Was expecting something about Journey to the West, but this wasn't too bad of a read. It's pretty neat how you were in a clan with progamers. Does it seem kinda surreal in hindsight?

hahaha that's awesome. I remember playing on west for a while, and got into a few korean teams back then. Played vs Garimto in a clan war (lost horribly), played vs JulyZerg in his prime (lost to his 9 pool on LT) and obsed a game of NaDa vs some toss on Luna (NaDa did 1 fac expo on Luna 7 vs 11 and the toss did 3 gate and I thought for sure NaDa was going to lose, but he absolutely crushed the toss)
Op eka-1 I think might be still around (or it was 2 years ago) when I played vs Kitty (person who beat ret in 1st courage and won the tournament) and he really helped my TvZ. I remember people saying I'm a liar that I'm American when I was in the teams I was in. Quite fun!

there was that guy already, kt.mgw)ocean or w/e his name was. Or was he also soem fake fou- member. Sounds just like your story. Not asking you to prove anything but if you can provide few replays vs those progamers id owe you a favor
every foreigner that was in one of those clans was at least heard of, you just popped out of nowhere with a weird story about playing progamers
one of the main reasons not to believe you among 100 others are these hilarious lines

LMAO!
indeed there was a player chunjae and you do sound like him a lot, he use to log on us east and lose in horrible fashion vs random people in x17 channel after talking for 20 minutes about how great he was
edit: theres only 1 replay of german[s.g] on ygosu and you said there were some. They dont remove those ever so another hole in your story. Can you also post 1-2 of your regular games? Will take 2 minutes

As I stated before I don't know who this guy is. I never used to play on east (why should I? When I tried to integrate I of course used Europe). When I sounded arrogant or as I only wanted to tell how great I was I'm sorry, that was definitely not my intention.
I'm pretty sure there was at least one more replay where I lost vs a guy named Pooh[S.M]. I remember that because he also had an replay where he won vs Fisheye. And that was huge for me. Maybe I misremember.
I'm sad I can't provide any replays. I formated my PC and/or got a new one not only once. Nowadays I would kill for these replays.
I can at least provide http://www.clansg.co.kr - I don't know how to look up other member profiles, I don't understand korean after all, all I know is that I still own the ID German[S.G] (Name: Chunjae[S.G]) on that webside. I don't know what the points and levels are for, so I guess I don't have a special member-status anymore, but the account was created as far as I can tell at 2003년 11월 03일. So I must have planned that story for a long time now.
