I am skeptical about the multiplayer.. think it will suck.
Lil scared with the game too since original developer wouldn't go near it.
But after it is released I will probably pick it up pending reviews.

I'm not buying it - i'll be downloading it though

Bioshock 1 was worth between 5 and 7 euros. I don't expect the second one to be better so no i won't buy it. Stop to dumb down games.

game doesn't deserve to be bought imo

drm looks pretty annoying and im pretty tolerant about that type of stuff. im not gonna buy anymore top of the line pc games until i get a new computer and i can't afford a new computer. prolly wont get serious about getting one until sc2.

video looks really cool. Less skeptical. Still not going to rush to buy it.. but that is mostly because of ME2, FF13, GoWIII Can't afford ALL of these lol!

I never really got into the bioshock series. I like their combo pack idea though, that's pretty neat.

This was more like valve's idea, Borderlands had a similar offer.

LOL...
Considering the original was a major disappointment for me, I will not be buying or bothering with the sequel. Looks like the Ass Effect 2 - which is also a disappointment so far - will be eclipsing its release...
|
I very much enjoyed the first one, mainly the excellent (imo) story telling aspect of it. Combat was pretty eh... I'm not going to get Bioshock 2 right off the bat, but instead wait a bit for reviews first

i'm not going to bother arguing but I must say that you're a very optimistic person at best if you trust those review sites. dont let me rain on your parade

Thought I'd clear this up, a bunch of the original developers are working on this. Irrational's Australia studio got renamed and is working on this project, and the Marin studio is run by relocated Irrational employees.

I'm not gonna spend money on BS2, why would i, mickey?

Pay for about one and a half playthroughs of the game with a couple hours tops for each one before the game loses all replay value?
No.

I don't even understand how this is bullshit.. can you at least explain a little more? It makes perfect sense to me. Game developers make the games for the money. If nobody pays, they will not make the games. It's THAT simple. And yes, people who actually care about the games understand this and buy them to further the game developer's efforts.
It is not a coincidence that only the popular titles have sequels.

lol would people stop replying to that idiot Breeze?
I would put BioShock 1 somewhere in my top 10 game list of all time, so I'm definitely getting BS2 when it comes out (already preordered for the ps3 ). Is it true that the sequel isn't being made by the original developers though?
|
I bought the first one within about a week of release. I probably would have been okay with it if I had spent 20-30 bucks on it instead of 50.
I don't think 50 reviews that give it 100% would get me to buy it.

Anyway, I support gamedevs and pirate if I don't but lately there's nothing really to pirate because of Steam (both the sale and convenience). However, I'm not buying Bioshock 2 right now. It's a good preorder deal actually but the triple hit combo DRM is a big cockblock.

Is it just me, or do most videos with narrators like this make the game seem stupider than it probably actually is. As for the question, still no.

I was pretty excited to see the first Bioshock, but one thing turned me off of the game entirely: it has the worst mouse control scheme of any PC game ever made.
The mouse only moves in the presence of acceleration. Now this is fine if you have the software acceleration turned on in your operating system, but for those of us who enjoy competitive FPS this is a nightmare. If you have acceleration disabled on your operating system, you literally cannot move the cursor in the game (especially on the menu) without physically accelerating the mouse. I can move my mouse all the way across the entire mouse pad without the cursor moving at all (except at the very beginning, of course).
Ok ok, you say, just enable the OS acceleration and play the game. It's not a competitive FPS after all, so having pinpoint precision and solid feel is not really that necessary. Ok, I can see that point of view. HOWEVER, there is a mysterious second tier acceleration present in the game. Allow me to explain:
If you have a linear acceleration in the game, the cursor (i.e. the camera) moves at a linear radial velocity. That is, it turns around in a circle at a constant rate. This is what you would normally expect in an FPS. You want some kind of linear motion that is easily readable by the human brain. However, if you have a highly nonlinear motion with your mouse (e.g. fast corrections, turning swipes etc.), there exists a second tier of motion behavior in the game. If the acceleration is at any time above some certain amount, then the game switches gear and the cursor suddenly moves super-fast.
The effect is this - if you make rapid motions in the game (which are not uncommon in any FPS), it is as if the game is tampering with your mouse CPI so that your mouse moves at unpredictable speeds. I stopped playing this game after literally 20-25 minutes, and never picked it up again. I dunno where they got this control scheme, but it seems to me like the game is designed to be played with an Xbox controller or something (where there exists two tiers of acceleration - pulling the joystick partway, and pulling it all the way).
So my interest in Bioshock 2 is minimal to say the least. Not to mention that the game has Securom AND limited activation stuff AND you need Games for Windows Live to be logged in to SAVE THE GAME (edit Sorry this is only for achievements, I misunderstood). So if you, for example, buy the Steam version of the game, you are gonna need Steam + GFWL Logged on + Securom running. Between Steam, Microsoft, and Securom, that setup is begging to fail.

Poll: Bioshock 1 most overrated game ever ? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No

Bioshock 1 was a damn good game, and Bioshock 2 looks to be pretty good as well. I'm not gonna say its gonna be amazing or anything but I think it will be quite a bit of fun.
Don't bother arguing with the pirates. Some of them can't afford it, some will buy it when it is cheaper, some will buy it when they remove the drm, and arguing isn't going to change anyone elses mind.

Also the game's lead developer was the man behind Bioshock's best level, Fort Frolic and as someone mentioned a lot of the original development team worked on 2 as well.

I disagree. While it is relatively common, I think inclusion of DRM is a perfectly valid excuse. I understand why companies use it, but I still don't think it is an excuse. The DRM is almost always a hassle for legitimate customers and rarely actually prevents piracy.

So... Anyone at all interested in going 4 ways for the combo pack?

it is a valid excuse. I bought a fuckton of games over steam, and I've bought lots at retail. I've yet to buy a game with securom, and I never will.
If the game gets rated 100% by every reviewer out there, I'm still not buying it unless securom is gone. If the only way to play without securom is pirating, then so be it.

what? Who said anything about pirating. I buy 95% of the games I have. But if its a choice between paying money + fucking up my system w/securom or no money + no securom, its not really a hard choice.
Companies that use securom deserve to be punished. Yet another company didnt learn from spore.

Except you aren't exactly punishing them. If you were really punishing them then you wouldn't play it. In the end, you are still their bitch for playing it.

Okay guys. I just downloaded and beat this game in record time (about 10 hours... it is really short actually, kind of dissapointing) PLOT SPOILERS AHEAD! + Show Spoiler +So i guess i got the "good" ending. I saved all the little sisters, didn't kill anyone except that guy from the train station (forget his name) and put the doctor out of his misery. However the ending was still extremely dissapointing. Eleanor saves her mother, and you fly up to the surface. Eleanor sucks the adam out of you, implying that you've become an angel or something (even though you're still alive) and then stares at the water with the little girls you saved. I'm pretty dissapointed. The game was fun though, even if the drill is overpowered.
|
I only buy games that have good multiplayer. Other wise, it better be somethign worth collecting or I'm downloading.
Game is exactly like Bioshock 1. If you liked the original, ull like this.

Give it up, Boblion. The only definitive way to prove Bioshock 1's overrated-ness is to either enter into a lengthy discussion (which we've been through a couple times in other threads, lol), or to wait for people to play System Shock 2 (from which Bioshock derives 90% of the good ideas in it).
First game was good if you didn't already own System Shock 2, and cared enough about graphics for it to be worth the difference between a $5 bargain bin game and a $50 new release (or if space zombies scare you). Personally, even if I cared about graphics, I doubt it would be enough to justify a tenfold higher cost--and I consider space zombies a plus.
|
I literally can't play it. I was able to play Bioshock 1 on MAX setting and get a decent frame rate. However, Bioshock 2 looks like a PS2 game on my computer. Textures are all messed up.

It also looks like a lot of people are having problems. Anyone else having any technical issues?
