I feel like there are a lot of smufs and people ranking up. Either I get annihilated or I kill some super newbie with basically no effort. I haven't been able to play a "good" (read evenly matched) game for a long time and it makes me want to quit =/

p.s. Too many protoss players at D I'm sick of PvP and I don't even enjoy playing the matchup.

It's actually a very frustrating feeling when you can't find people to play who are of comparable skill. I often found myself in that boat. Most people I would autolose vs and most people I would autowin vs. Very few people would actually get ~50% wins/losses vs me.

yeah its the main problem with iccup is /resetstats YES

fortunately if youre just playing to improve your skill winning/losing doesn't matter that much

personally i have mad respect for people who mass game without caring about their stats

GLHF and play koreans if it's possible.

I've played 14 games so far. Of the people I lost to, their current stats are as follows:

15:2
7:0
4:6 (no excuses, I fucked this one up)
31:16 (was a very good, close game)
12:10 (cannon rush, I didn't see it until it was too late)
10:3 [cannon rush again. (x.x) ]
8:0

I have also beaten a few "smurfs" as you would like to call them. One is currently near C+. I have been intentionally looking for them.

What you need to realize is that everyone starts at D and has to work their way up. At the beginning of the season, a lot of people are playing at D that are actually much better than that. It will pass, then the season will end, and it will start all over again.

Sorry to hear-- it's just a large part of the game now. BW has been out for a long time, and some people have had a *lot* of time to get good at it. ICCup is also a really competitive ladder. By default, you're going to be playing some really great players!

Yeah winning and losing aren't too important for getting better, but I'm a competitive person and if I'm not going at least 50/50 I get really frustrated and it makes me unable to play right. I guess I'm just used to playing all these FPS games that come naturally to me.

this is a common problem with D rank once you hit D+ everyone has a basic understanding of the game and it becomes a lot more fun because instead of either auto win/lose the games tend to be more even and hardfought (until you if your like me hit a losing streak where every game becomes autolose and you go from 30-45 to 30-60 >.<)

I understand this, but aren't people who are shitty (like me) supposed to be at D/D+? How are people who have ad a lot of time to get good at SC at D rank? Last season I was 21-26 D+ with a lot of good games, I felt pretty good about that since it was my first season to play. But this season its either I'm getting raped or I'm bored.

What bothered me was I dodged the first wave somehow, or just when heartbreak 2.1 became MOTW (since its a courage map) since its the courage map everyone and their mother wanted to test their mettle on it.

By everyone I mean Koreans
By test their mettle I mean proxy gate a terran player.
After that my record took a notable slide downward as well as my playing, ugh its a love/hate relationship with HBR, I hate the troubles that come with it but I love the challenge. I've beaten it before and Ill do it again.

By beating I mean i got 1 win after 21 losses :D

you have to understand that there is a significant proportion of the iccup population who don't really care that much about improving, they care about having good stats. they'll have multiple accounts and reset their stats as soon as they lose a game or whatever. it's silly and egotistical but it's just the way the ladder is.

my suggestion is to try to find practice partners. next time you have a close game, ask them if they want to practice. for best results ask them after you lose. people are less likely to respond if you beat them (nerd rage lol) :/

If you want to play vs crappy players, look at their points.
Players with clean stats have points that end with 0; e.g. 2000 points (10 wins on python for 100 pts each); 1260 pts (2x 130 pts).

I find unrated practice games with people from op irc to be the most fun and I learned the most from them. Laddering on Iccup is just so fucking annoying sometimes with all the Korean rapes, cheese, bm, drop-hacking, etc.

Try playing with people you know. Go on op [cpl] and ask for games. Lots of people there are in the same situation as you and will be willing to play BOx games with you (like me ) since those games will be closer, instead of one sided rape.

Out of curiosity I checked my last 20 games of the last iccup season. 15 of them were against players who were D+ or higher previous seasons.

Because there are so many smurfs, I generally dodge all new accounts and any account that hasn't lost a game.

I'm an actual D level Terran if you wanna PvT. My TvP needs a lot of work. Feel free to friend me (Timoon/ [CPL]Timon). I usually play around an hour or 2 a day.

yeah it happens. you have three choices

a) don't play until later in the season when 95% of the players have worked through their ranks

b) reset stats if you end up with <1000 points or whaatever

c) just shrug it off and keep playing

I am a c- player, but quit for 2 weeks

I came back, and lost all sense of timings with supply, what to do vs what build, etc.

I dropped to d-, and after i thrash d- players, they start yelling at me about being a 250apm d- player.

Just don't care about your stats.

Smurfs actually really hurt lower-level players because they actually can't learn much from playing against someone who's that much better because they just get raped from all fronts

the problem is how steep the initial learning curve is for BW... I think I started out 2-67 where one of my wins came from a disconnect and the other came because I was annoyed and 5 pooled a guy who gave up when he saw my lings... so you're going to have to deal with the fact that a lot of people will be way above or way below your level... but if they're way below your level you should be able to win quickly.

anyways... if you really hate PvP you should switch to zerg P:

Looking at matchlist, your losses from higher ranks primarily came from d+/c- people with one C rank.

Yeh, you really got smurfed.

And if you don't enjoy pvp then play another MU then.

in my first season I also got totally crushed by smurfs. (ended up with something like 16-38) now I am playing my third season, a I win about 50% of my games on D+. just keep going, eventually you'll get better and you'll walk over a a c- smurf, who tries to cannon rush you.
and don`t give a fuck about stats. they just don't matter.
first we make expand, then we defense it.

try to idle in D channel and ask ppl that have a "real D record" (liek 20-40, 15-25) stuff like, for game.

also, come in Op [CPL] to find d-\d\d+ player
