dude at D you should just do single player, honestly.
until your build orders becomes complete instinct and you can dot hings without thinking about them etc
i still do single player all the time its great for pracitcing hot keys, buildin placement and multitasking

ill stick to single player for now, ill take you up on that offer though, maybe in a week or so

find someone to practice with, and do what day9 says. pick one matchup on one map and play the fuck out of it. keep everything simple, focus on mechanics and timings. rewatch replays when you're tired/don't want to play and focus on timings/macro. focus on what you're wanting to improve instead of trying to do everything at once. i shall say focus one more time because i've already said it too much.
liquipedia will help a lot too, glance over mu guides and apply those to your games

I would suggest you post some replays, get them analyzed (and analyze them yourself, of course!) and then decide what to do.
Should I watch VODs to better understand the new maps so I'm not playing like a lame, crippled duck on shrooms with a bad hair day?
I wouldn't do that. You said you're D level, so you should better practice your mechanics.

Just learn to macro, I mean I've been playing 4-5 months and I suck but just being able to make a lot of stuff has got me to D+/C-.
As a sidenote - it's funny how whenever I play these 300 apm Koreans who have really nice probe harrass, medic marine micro vs lurkers etc they're missing probes left and right and let their minerals go up to 3k within 10 minutes
