This is a pretty bad intro. But stick with me.
I'm not really a big post-rock fan for a large number of reasons. The biggest being; most post-rock bands sound exactly the same. It gets incredibly dull listening to 1 band for a whole day, or 4 songs for 8 hours.

I'm sure some of you have heard of them, but for those of you who haven't; Miaou is a post-rock band from Japan. They're not extremely popular or mainstream or whatever so obviously you're not going to be hearing them on the radio. Or maybe you will. I dunno, I don't listen to radios. But w/e, most of their songs feel rather up-beat and rarely devolve into "bang on your instruments as loud as possible" sequences like mogwai, god is an astronaut, and other generic-sounding post-rock bands do.

I personally think their best album is "Make These Things Alright", which you can probably find relatively easy if you Google around enough.

Another (in my opinion) good post-rock/electronic band is Lights Out Asia. Despite being a little on the overhyped as of late, I love them. But mostly their 2 latest albums, "Tanks and Recognizers" and "Eyes Like Brontide". Garmonia never really caught my interest.
I'm not good at describing sound, so I'll just provide yet another link of a song I enjoy.

Despite being live, it's pretty close to the version on the album. + Show Spoiler +
Kinda makes for a boring live show if you ask me since they barely move and it sounds so close to the original. xD

I also own both Tanks and Recognizers and Eyes Like Brontide, so if you enjoy the youtube vid hit me up with a PM and I'll rip one/both of the albums and upload them for you in any format/bit rate you ask for. I don't transcode from anything other than flac.

Also (very) overhyped is Have a Nice Life, a band that I love. So I guess I'm a (very) small part of the reason it's overhyped. Damn hipsters.
Kinda reminds me of post-punk or shoegaze a little bit in certain (seperate) cases.

It's kind of a 'love it or hate it' affair with them IMO, when I first listened to them I was massively turned off by the vocals (they seemed strange to me at the time, I was coming off of more traditional styles of music) but I can't really say for sure. I don't think I've ever met someone who's been 'in between' loving and hating them though.

Now, breaking away from Post-rock/shoegaze/whatever, I'm a huge fan of dark ambient and drone. Things like Maeror Tri, _Algol_, (not to be confused with Algol) Celer, Dreams of Dying Stars, Hum (not the rock band) and Troum. The very first time I listened to drone was about 2 years ago.. Some Stars of the Lid track that I can't remember anymore. I wondered how people could possibly enjoy it since it was so slow and dull to me. Drone isn't exactly a mainstream genre so I don't expect to get many positive comments relating to this section of the blog, but it's worth a shot and I sincerely (not really) hope that someone actually enjoys the following music.

Let's start with Stars of the Lid since they're pretty entry level.

This track is special to me. Mostly because I recorded an FPVOD of myself actually beating the guy who taught me how to play Terran for the first or second time in a TvT. xD
But really I think it's a fantastic track. It's very soundscapey, imo.. It feels like the perfect track to play during an emotional part of a movie. But I don't wanna sound homosexual (no hate yo) so I'll stop there.
Listen to it the whole way through if you bother to click it, please. I'll give you a virtual hi-5 if you do. xD

Troum is also somewhat entry level dark ambient/drone. Troum is two thirds of Maeror Tri, and ambient/drone/industrial group from Germany. Troum is obviously from Germany as well... Because people can't just change their nationalities. Duhh~ Their latest (non-rerelease) album, Eald-Ge-Streon, is especially entry level, so I'll be posting a track from it for demonstration.

Not really drone or industrial or anything. Just ambient. From the album Eald-Ge-Streon.. The one I was talking about being entry level. The bonus disc, Abhijna, on the other hand, goes back to their ambient/industrial roots in Maeror Tri.. I fucking love Abhijna. But that's beside the point.

+ Show Spoiler +
I own many, many Troum albums, (legally, duh) PM me if you enjoy this or the following track (which I don't own) and want me to rip you a few of the albums. If you're not specific about how you want them ripped I'll just upload them in 320 kb/s. Don't sue me ;-;

Same deal, more ambient with a small hint of drone I suppose. I don't think they have any really droney tracks on Youtube. But that's okay because it would probably bore the average listener anyway.

And now, one last one. _Algol_ releases some of his music for free (2 albums afaik), the one containing the track I'm about to copypaste into this blog included. You can find that album at Nulll records, google it and you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it.

I can't really describe _Algol_. My imagination and writing skills aren't quite good enough to make some pretentious, engaging review, so just listen to the link. And since I'm getting tired of writing this I'm just gonna stop here.

Hope you like the music

Hehe, yeah, it is.
It's not noise. But those last few tracks I posted are kinda on the same level. I get a lot of joke-hate for listening to it. People teaste often with "is this actually music?" and other similar comments. xD

Excellent writeup. But I can't help but feel it needs more Dragonforce. Surely the amazing riffs and impressive vocals of the Band of the Year, All Years should be included in such a high quality and well thought out post such as yours

Oh yes, my bad. I'll be sure to edit in DragonForce once I stop being lazy.
Thanks for pointing out the biggest flaw in this thread

This is pretty pleasant. But it goes against my hipster code to listen to video game music.

I think most of the stuff in here is fairly obscure. I listen to a lot of post-rock and drone music, and I have never heard of any of these bands. Much thanks for sharing.

I thought you were referring to postrockxchange or postapocalyptic vanguard ... but I guess I was wrong. Interesting music ... not your mainstream post-rock.
