This guy, " Lil B " got a record deal a while ago, listen to this song.
I thought it was a joke 100% at first, but I realized all his songs are like that. I suggest listening to the whole song because it is very funny. He put no effort into the track o.o
Now, lets look a while back a fewlot of years and listen to this song " Slick Rick - Children's Story.
This song probably took a very long time to make but it is verrrry good, it has great story telling and mediocre lyricism.
Another example of a song that actually makes sense, has great story telling and pretty decent lyricism.
Idk why I just wanted to post this to give TL.Net some lols and to see that hip hop/ rap now SUCKS
Ya I really kind of stopped listening to rap around 2004-2006. It was starting to go down hill since around 2002 but it didn't get real bad till around 2007. It's even worse now, talentless rappers out there rapping about bullshit and using auto tune wherever possible.
At least Metal is going strong, I need a main source of music

I've always hated your posting, literally, every single fucking post, I just loathed you along time ago.
But now you go and post my favorite can ox song, then post my favorite rapper a.r., and post a song by him that most people don't even know exists, most people don't know about team teamwork.
Here we go I guess
Also I saw cage live awhile back, he signed my t-shirt, and I pushed a guy that was cussing him out.

Haha, so good.
Somewhat the same for me, but only because it's hard to find rappers that are genuinely talented and/or good without actively looking for them. Since I generally don't listen to rap, I don't actively look for it, as a result, rarely listen to rap.

There's plenty of talented rappers out there, just because the underground scene is "underground" doesn't mean they're hard to find. Just listen to a ton of it and try to find something you like. I never listened to rap until I heard a random immortal technique song along time back (I don't really like him, but he is good). You might just need to find something to hook you in. Try listening to some of the stuff in this thread and give it a chance I guess.

Also for a rap blog I can't help but post this video. This is the single greatest response to rap battle in the history of mankind. If you like experimental hip-hop I highly suggest the album "Earth Beasts Awaken" by Historian Himself. It's free on his website.
This video is Historian Himself's response to a rap battle by Tykwon Flow. Fabulous.

I've got a question for the rap community. No I'm not trolling, I promise. Just me being uneducated.
I don't listen to much rap, but in...say the rock or metal genre, there's a ton of subgenres...like hard rock, heavy metal, death metal, blah blah blah. I don't care for alot of the bigger (more popular?) rap artists that are on the radio. I listen to stuff like..
Dr Octagon
Deltron 3030
and so on...I know a guy who listens to a lot of rap and when I ask him he's like... "I dunno, it's a lot of kinds." If I want to find similar rap to that, which genre should I look for or what are some similar artists?

Uh first of all Rap and Hip-Hop are different genres. Rap IS the main stream garbage. The only underground rap you will find are from really really bad up and comers trying to make it into the mainstream. (OP video for example)
So, yea, There is Hip-Hop which is more mainstreamed stuff, classic/golden age etc. If you go to the hip-hop wiki page there is a huge listing of all the sub genres.
People/Groups like Gravediggas, Necro, Goretex, and all those east coast psycho+illogical guys would be called horrorcore/deathrap/etc. Then you have pseudo christian/religious guys like Pigeon John, LMNO or whatever. Then you have lots of political MCs (nearly all underground hip-hop has something political to say, even guys like Nas). There has even been a rising trend of nerdcore/nerdrap/etc guys like Futuristic Sex Robots,Random, TY Cracker, MC Frontalot, etc.
I could go on, mostly all of the sub genres are considered underground, even though imo they are pretty mainstream. Stuff like Atmosphere, Visionaries, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, etc. etc. are all in this category. They are better than the commercial rap but not nearly as good as some of the deeper artists.
I like to think of it like this: These well known 'underground' artists are like the gateway drug to the heroine/crack that lies below.
