I'm sorry for creating yet another technology help request, but, well, they don't last long, technology moves forward quickly.
Anyways, my CRT is absolutely destroying my eyes so i want to switch over to LCD on my computer. The problem is, I don't know too much about monitors. I visited newegg, compusa, microcenter, and amazon, and newegg's Acer's appeal to me quite a bit, but at the same time I don't know if there is something I should know about certain brands, or anything like that.

The monitor that I like.

another that looks ok
In terms of price I'm trying to keep it under 150 or 180 but am willing to spend more, if there's something wrong with monitors at those prices and i need to spend more.

If you're just looking for a cheap one the first one you listed, the Acer, look pretty good for that price. I bought an Acer 21.5" 1080p widescreen start of this year for $50 more and its great (save for two minor things). Its a bit different than yours though, mine came with built in speakers (which are crap - I knew this would happen but was hoping they wouldn't be), and my buttons aren't tactile at all. Actually its still listed:

The only major differences are the speakers and power consumption. I wouldn't get mine even if you want speakers on your monitor because the buttons are kinda annoying to press sometimes.
EDIT: Also with that HDMI port you can hook up a PS3 or 360. You won't be able to get sound out of the 360 though but the PS3 has a couple work arounds with the extra outputs on the back (a/v cords, optical).

That looks really nice actually. For the price too; I have another Acer that I was going to recommend but it was more expensive but isn't as good as that one that Chuiu posted above.
Fucking FutureShop I paid more for less. But this was half a year ago so I guess prices have changed around and what not.
Anyway, I would go for the one posted above. Looks sweet.

i have a crt after my flat one broke. I actually love it. All the flatscreens I played on don't have a native resolution of a multitude of 640, while crt's have.

Enjoy your much slower response time, lower "widescreen" resolution, higher failure rate, greater pollution, and lower refresh rate; therefore MORE eyestrain.

just get some samsung 22'', gets the job done good enough, wide screen or no doesn't really matter as new games are optimalized for it and most of older ones (including starcraft) can be played in windowed mode

At EVO (big international fighting game tournament run by community) they purchased and used this Asus monitor after extensive testing of many models. It's a little bit more expensive than the other suggestions. The main criteria was that it could display 1080p and that it did not have significant display lag when tested (so always < 8ms difference always between it and a CRT getting the same clock display input). They were mostly connecting PS3 via HDMI.
Although honestly I wouldn't trust that community 100% on these matters.

here's a thread about LCDs if you want to do some research and reading into the type of LCD you want to get: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=2049206&enterthread=y
I recommend looking into getting a glossy screen LCD over a matte screen LCD. pro is more vibrant display and colors. con is that glossy screens are highly reflective under certain lighting conditions or when displaying dark colors. I tune out the reflections very easily. some people are very bothered by them though.

that acer looks great for the price. If you have patience, check sites like slickdeals.net and bensbargains.net They occasionally have great monitor deals. I got a 19 inch envision for 100 bucks and it's pretty good imo.

you generally get what you pay for when it comes to monitors. If I was you though, I'd look for a little computer shop and see if you can get a used one for less or something (and they'll take your old one off you too).
