As italian I am really often disappointed by the way foreigners make pasta. This is really strange because it is one of the easiest dish to cook.. Don't blame if you alredy know it but here is it the RIGHT way of making pasta.
Take your cooker and fill it with water; Wait until water boils; Put salt in the water as much as needed; Wait until water boils; put pasta; wait the time written in the box. However you want to check it time by time to make sure pasta arrives to the right cooking time. Drain the cooker. Add sauce

why do you wait til water boils before putting pasta in? I just put it in with the water at the start, works perfect everytime.
and adding salt is MAJOR no-no.. do you know how much sodium is already in most pasta sauces as it is?? More salt is overboard.

most american skip salt and cook for too long

Because you get a consistent temperature (also higher) when the water is at boil, which is better for the texture of the pasta. Do you ever pre-heat the oven, it's the exact same logic.
and adding salt is MAJOR no-no.. do you know how much sodium is already in most pasta sauces as it is?? More salt is overboard.
Do you know how many calories are in fries? Why do you eat it with a burger and a soda? Because it tastes better.
Pasta without salt taste bland and disgusting.

I don't make pasta like this.
I am italian.
You can provide a much stronger flavor if you bed the pasta, or cook the pasta in a sauce with slightly extra water just before the al dente phase. You can also fry pasta once its almost done with eggs and a thick meat sauce, which is also good. You can also cook pasta in a broth to create a nice soup.
The main difference between italian and foreigner pasta cooking is that foreigners cook well past al dente and lose the texture and resistance of the pasta, which makes for a much less satisfying bite. The sauces used are also inferior; homemade sauce is light years away from canned or bottled sauce.
Also remember: Pasta is not spaghettini. Pasta is pasta. I haven't even touched most pastas.

thanks, I always wondered, it's not like these instructions are on every pasta package in the whole world.

Alright Mr. Italian, please tell me the following: Is it acceptable to put the sauce into the pot with the drained pasta and stir it up in there? Or is the sauce only supposed to go on top of the pasta on the plate as one nice blob?

But he's Italian so he must know the proper way to make it!

Put a decent amount in the pot if you use the OP technique to heat up the sauce to the same temperature as the pasta, but don't use all the sauce. Place the remainder in something which can pour easily. The pasta should be lightly covered, and the remaining sauce can be used to top people up as needed.
Cheese, by contrast, is normally added afterwards unless the sauce is a cheese based one, like the standard butter/parmigiano.

My point is, pasta sauce already has like, what, 600 mg of sodium per cup?? why would you add another huge chunk of salt to the water itself?? thats going more overboard than it already is (theres loads of salt in it already)

It's important to stir the pasta when it gets into the water so that it doesn't stick together. Pretty important detail to leave out of such a simple dish to make

I disagree, in my experiences in the mid-west ketchup is more common.

As a man I am really often disappointed by the way others take the virginity of a girl This is really strange because it is one of the easiest things to do.. Don't blame if you alredy know it but here is it the RIGHT way to take someones virginity.
Take the girl and make her drunk with cocktails; (doesn't really matter which kind of cocktail) wait until she can't think straight; Put as much effort as needed in it; Wait until she's with you at your place; put compliments; don't wait, now's your chance. However you want to check it because you don't want to force it. make sure to use a condom. add cumshot

Perhaps you missed the part where the Pasta tastes rather bland without salt.
My diet is pretty damn healthy but I won't shy away from adding salt if it makes the dish taste better. It's not going to kill you.
Also a huge chunk is a bit of a STRETCH man.. you usually add no more than like 2 pinches.

Anyone that cooks noodles by putting the noodles into the water before the water is boiling needs to seriously learn basic cooking. That's like one of the biggest noob moves you can do with food.

I once saw a container of chocolate sauce that said "Chef's tip: Goes great on ice creme as well!"
It was funny. But this blog just makes me angry. You didn't mention any important subtleties to cooking pasta, and you probably don't know any either. I beg you to turn in your citizenship to the proper authorities.

What method do you guys use to make sure that the pasta doesn't stick to itself and clump up? I've heard that running the pasta in cold water after works, as well as drizzling with a little olive oil.
|
has anyone else noticed that the box instructions almost always say to cook the pasta longer than is actually al dente?
i almost always cook the pasta about 20% shorter than specified; texture is much better.

You forgot to add small pieces of feta over the spaghetti when its served

Yeah in Sweden too. We eat potatoes for everything! Potatoes saved Sweden during a "hungerneed" (or whatever the name is lol, didn't show up in my online lexicon) I think around the 1800? Or maybe earlier. Since it can grow everywhere even in Swedens sometimes harsch climate.
