Yes, it's going to be an all out ballfest of making Holmes as manly as possible and I wouldn't be surprised if he fights a bear at some point but I don't care. Some films, however differently they portray loved and well known characters can still be extremely enjoyable to watch if you take them at face value and suspend the temptation to indulge in indepth criticism.
One of my favourite childhood films was "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes", it's very impressive visually and dealt with some taboo subjects for the time. I don't see it often on TV but it's worth watching if you get the chance. Plus it has midgets and the Loch Ness Monster which give it instant bonus points.
