vent server is now officially shut down, please use the TL TS3 server going forward:

update, 05/18/10: only pm me with requests if you would like a private channel. please indicate where you would like it, channel name, and desired password - you no longer need to ask for accounts. update, 11/05/09: contacted typefrag support who enabled duplicate ID's. guest accounts reverted back to support 3 logins from same IP, issue should be fixed now. if you would still like an account or private channel, pm me. update, 11/04/09: Show nested quote +wow okay so this kid keeps logging on with other peoples' names while they are on the server, which kicks them and is just a huge pain to deal with.
i can't set duplicates=1 from rcon, which would prevent this from happening. i set (Guest) on user editor to allow no duplicate ips, but i don't know if that works.
the sure way to prevent being kicked for now would be to pm me (on TL) your desired user name and password. you will have to log onto ventrilo with that same user name. passwords are entered in the "Server" menu up top, below where you put in the ip and port for our server.
please also pm me if you would like a passworded channel. This is the official thread for anything related to the TL Ventrilo server at chromium.typefrag.com / 11005. Please PM me for a user name and password (not necessary, just prevents you from being kicked), or for private channel requests! There are those cool vent status displays that you can get for websites (I know a lot of MMO guilds use them) that show who is online and connected currently, perhaps one could be added on the right side below the affiliate links for iccup and LP.

well it's really quite simple, just type in:
Hostname or IP: chromium.typefrag.com
Port Number: 11005
no password is needed. you should be able to connect.

I'd like to see 2 channels for "team game" modes, so two teams can communicate in separate channels without invading other sections. Also, two team melee channels would be cool.

It was intrigue today night asking if were me and Yassuo the guys "speaking random noises"?
I can't prove, but something says me it was "demo9000" who complained about it?
Let me explain, in short, what happened then:
- populis joins Dota *PUBLIC* room
- demo9000 starts yelling and calling names at everyone, at life, at "this game" [dota], etc, etc
- populis laughs
- demo9000 then starts yelling and calling populis names, telling him to suck dicks, telling him he's a nigger, etc, etc, etc.
- populis says: "ok man [pause] good bye noobs"
- moments later some admin comes in the another room I was and asks if we're the responsible for such randomness in the noises heard. I said "yep", in the middle of a battle and trying to be fun. Mr. admin laughs a bit, says "ok", and 5 seconds later I ask "who's talking?", and I got no answer
So if the rules which the server runs under defines "laugh" as "random noises", ok, I'm not complaining about getting banned by such a controversial reason.
Additionaly, if these rules state that "If any angry monkey yelling, with racist words, at the game in which he/she is losing, accuses someone of producing random noises, this will result in banishment for the accused", then I'm fine too.
But please read my words not as I was demanding justice, the Truth or unban from the server.
To be honest, I'll be fine in any way.
I just want my random noises to be heard somewhere in the universe.

Just a thought: a spoiler-free room, where people can hang out (much like general) but with the general consensus NOT to talk about that day's games. (Yesterday a bunch of us we're hanging out while waiting or the VODs when someone came in blurting out "OMG CAN YOU BELIEVE X WON?!")

uhhh vent still freaks out and turns white and you can't see shit on it even if you have the alerts off. so... it's still pretty annoying whenever it happens.
edit: also, i believe paging is disabled on the server.

god someone keeps signing on vent with my vent name and it kicks me because duplicate names aren't allowed. i saw this to everyone else that was in my channel

Need a vent admin to IP ban this guy that keeps taking our names and spamming channels with noise.
Also any chance I can get a password anti-spam channel so he can't change his IP and spam us again. Me and several others frequent the vent, and he keeps coming back he's been banned before.

Just now I tried to get ventrillo working on the TL server, I never used it before.
On the way it banned me for spamming, yes I joined/left a lot. Can I be unbanned? Or does that happen autmatically in time?

i believe you can get banned for repeating actions too many times too quickly, such as hitting your push-to-talk key or changing channels.

Uh i'm not sure if its me but i asked pholon and both of us were unable to get on tl vent so i think it might be down for whatever reason

Hmm... this is the first time I've ever used ventrillo.
I got on the server, and then I started clicking on those little blue plus/minus things a few times just to check out the channels, and it said I've been banned.
Funny thing is I don't even own a mic, so I can't even talk, just listen, and I get banned. Admittedly, I have no idea how to use vent, so apologies, but I'd like to get unbanned because I don't think I did anything too terrible...
Anyway, my vent name is PyroDog,
IP: 76.91.185.168
Sorry for the trouble

I was just banned for spamming. Please tell me how. I know I dont use the chat function in vent, and I was typing in something on Word for my economics assignment when I was banned. I also dont act stupid in vent to other people? If this can get fixed soon I would greatly appreciate this. And my push to talk button is scroll lock and I didnt touch it at all.

I'm having trouble connecting to the vent server. when I try to connect it just says "Contacting Server" and nothing happens. Any help would be awesome!

I actually just PMed TheMango in an unrelated issue and brought this up. Does anyone know whats with the random 75 users in the game 1-10 channels who don't speak English? I wouldn't care but it just seemed strange and it maxes out the vent server so people can't log in.
Edit: Most of them sound Russian I think, or some other eastern European language.

Going to start banning those WoW players if they start maxing out the server. So far its been pretty rare to see all 200 slots filled.

Yeah its weird, the server gets cramped. Maybe tell them to keep it to a minimum so they don't max it out that often. I don't see it happen often but yesterday was just one of those days.

I was thinking GSL specifically, for people to hang out and watch together in, but possibly also for other major tournaments if it catches on. I really like watching pro matches with other fans, it seems like something that would be pretty fun ^^.

For the big events, like MSL/OSL/Proleague/GSL finals, there have usually been people in one of the general/random# channels discussing the games live. I'd just advertise by putting something in your comments.

I've been banned from the TL.net Ventrilo, and I have no idea why.
I was in the LoL "Panick at the Nexus" Channel, and I left after I realized my team in the in-house we were playing was on Skype.
After the game, I tried to go back on the TL.net vent and discovered I was banned.
May I be unbanned, and if not, know the reason why I was banned?

Most likely it was an autoban for joining multiple times to fast, or you were switching between channels too fast. PM me your IP and i'll look into it.

I went AFK in ventrilo today, and when I got back, I was disconnected. Now it says "Contacting server", and won't let me connect. Does this mean I was banned or is it some other problem? Works fine for my friend, I contacted him in game.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I'm very close to PM'ing TheMango anyway so might as well; PLEASE bring back your DJ bot  It used to get me thru crappy days at the office. I loved it and I haven't been able to find anything like it on the tenths of web radio stations, and audio streaming services I've checked (bear in mind Last.fm, Pandora and a couple other are not available in my country).

Story: I was playing music on the stereos, and I forgot to switch to headsets when I turned on my mic.
The music was nothing explicable, so nothing insulting there. Anyways, the unjustified part was that I only played it for at most 8 seconds or so, literally.
