How to use Ventrilo -- For Noobz!

First off to dl the program go to [http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php]

(On the Main Window)
1. Make a User Name by clicking the [ " -> " ]

2. Enter Server Name by clicking the [ " -> " ]

this is how you enter new servers.. Press " New " and normally I just put the IP here but you can put "Starcraft Ventrilo" or whatever you like. Under that will be the actual IP which is required... Port # after that .. normally 4-5 Numbers.. And then lastly the Password if necessary..
Most noobs don't know too much about this program and will simply connect but here is some tips I can give to make Ventrilo less annoying with Sounds... Under all of the Ip,Port, Password jazz.. there are check boxes for different items.. I always turn off my pages so to do that you will check off the first one.. [ Page is when someone in the server right clicks your name and sends a page.. it can be really annoying if they spam you...] Also there is removal of people recording your voice... which is neat and can be used against you :p! but in most cases ill leave it on..

[Setup Your Microphone / Ventrilo Noises]

Go to Start / Control Panel under Windows.... Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices... Sounds and Audio Devices...

Click Speaker Settings.. Advanced .. if you are using headphones make sure Headphones are highlighted or your headphone microphone will not work....

Go To Audio TAB.. if you are using speakers make sure your your sound card is selected and headphones for people that use headphones...

Next is the **Important** Voice Tab... Make sure under Voice Recording.. if you are using headphones to select the headphones or if you have a stand up mic to select the sound card,.... click test hardware to test your microphone..

if you just plugged your microphone in and you hear yourself... under control panel / Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices... Sounds and Audio Devices - you will see on the left advanced volume controls click the audio device that you use by clicking the top left / Properties.. and find microphone... if it unchecked that means you need to mute it.. sometimes this happends.. but for me since i'm using headphones it is not a problem and i don't need to mute it..

Click Setup on the main Menu..
Make Sure Enable Outgoing Voice Communications is Checked.
Use push to Talk Hotkey is Checked
Use Direct Input is Checked
and Uncheck the pLay Clicks.. that is really annoying!

Normally for my hotkey I will use Mouse 4 or Mouse 3 since it is easier to use.. but really any key you are comfortable with works... mabye "V" or "Ctrl" are commonly used..

Under that will be Codec and right here you want to choose whatever Codec that sounds best.. by using the Test button you can see how you sound.. but make sure your setup is equipped first (refer to setting up microphone).. by going to the top right .. Make sure Direct Sound is Checked and if you are using Headphones you select headphones to hear [Output] and to use the headphone mic or stand up mic is [input] .. if everything is used by your sound card you should select the sound card or 'on board' sound card so that your microphone will work.

Under this will be your Mixer.. for different options for playing music from your microphone.. some Microphones wont work for this option but normally you will set it to mixer... under Line... and if you are listening to music you use the talk button and people on Ventrilo can hear what you hear.. It is nice when you want to show a friend your favorite song..

Under that is Line Volume.. I have mine at default - I don't mess with that...

[Amplifiers]
This is how you control the sound.. of your voice so moving 'outbound' is what you hear.. and 'inbound' is what you say

OK next step is the Ventrilo Voices.. click on the 2nd tap which is called [ Events ] it is found on the top..

Put all the sound to Nothing unless you want to hear these annoying voices.. for example the sound you hear when someone joins a ventrilo server or channel.. I mean this is unnecessary..

On the right you can press all to nothing as well..

[Speech Tab]
Ya Uncheck that Play Text to Speech that shit is so god dam annoying

[Misc]

In This tab you can setup the visual of your Ventrilo on mine i only have Auto Expand all channels when connecting checked...

Now it is time to Connect to your Server..

To join a channel double click the room where you want to be
if the top of the channel is red.. it is a passworded channel..

Now that The Basics are Covered... I can teach you how to record conversations and other tricks I know..

Alright.. Right Click while Connected to a Ventrilo Server and click and go to View and then Record / Playback...

To [Record] you obviously Press Record and Press Stop when you are finished.. to listen to it.. you press Open.. It should save automatically... if you want to send the wav file to a friend you right click .. View .. Working DIrectory and find the folder that says recordings. make sure you know which wave file it is.. most likely the last one you recorded...

To page a friend that has their Sound muted on ventrilo or someone you want to annoy that is a noob and has page allowed.. you right click their name and got to user... and "send page"

To Add a link to share with friends you click comment and paste the link.. To copy a comment you right click the user and go to Miscellaneous and Copy Comment

Under Change State you can Turn Pages Off..

Integration will show like a comment.. It will have the Exact Track Name you are listening to you.. for example if you are listening to your music playlist under winamp.. you will check winamp and everyone in ventrilo can see what music you are listening too.. make sure everyone knows that you listen to 'Hansen - mMm Bop'

Special Effects: turn up a person's volume right click their name special effects / volume turn em up.

[Server Admins]
Now for the Admins.. to Login you go to Server Admin and you need a password....

To check the banlist with admin click ban list and you will be able to remove people who have been banned...

MOTD = Message of the Day it will pop up when anyone joins the ventrilo server.. maybe there is something special every must read....

User Editor = Adding an Admin .. you must have all the correct check marks for this.. make sure to read it.. alot of things will be checked.. like for this admin to do anything.. you should copy yours and apply it for the new admin..

Kick..
Ban..
Global Mute (basically mutes the person from talking... in any channel..)

And you can give people Channel Admin.. =/
