We know team histories are not working correctly. Thank you. |
I have a comment about the uploaded SC Tourney games in general...
Is there a way to NOT see how many games have been played in a series? Seeing how many games played, like Jaedong vs. Fantasy recently, tells you that the series went 3-1. Just hypothetically, if you watch the first game and see that Fantasy loses, you know the rest of the series goes to Jaedong and it ruins the fun and suspense of watching the games.
I would suggest maybe just the name of the match, "Jaedong vs. Fantasy" and when you click on it you can view game one, then a next button to game 2, then a next button to game 3, and so on...
|
Sorry, post cut out a bit at the end. Finisher to that was:
Or at least when you click the "No Spoiler" button, make it so you don't see exactly how many games are played in said series. Not showing the winner is of course the purpose of the "No Spoiler", but seeing the number of games sort of spoils the rest of it....

YOu can just use the small vods thread for this

Yeah right now this is not possible unfortunately - so Small Vod Thread is the way to go.

@ Spideysense
Yeah, you're right about that. Almost every series I have watched on TL I have known the outcome beforehand except when the series goes to the end. I'd really like to see what Spidey was saying implemented or something similar.
Another way I could see to do it would be to input all the potential games in a series into the system and then flag the ones that didn't get played to not show up on the spoiler list. Both methods seem like they would be very simple to implement and would be greatly appreciated by many SC fans.
Anyway, I love this site for keeping up with SC pro-gaming and this lack of feature is the only disappointment I've had. Keep up the good work!

Kind of funny to hear people complain about lack of a feature that we've actually had for years
Small vod thread is the place to watch the latest games spoiler-free.

Hey I finally have a suggestion!
Since some games are Kespa Sanctioned while others are just events, I was wondering if we can put some kind of acronym to each game saying whether it was an Event game or a Kespa Sanctioned game.
I know majority of the users in TL don't need to be educated on whether it is Sanctioned or not, but maybe it can help the new members who are fresh to this website

Yeah we were actually discussing this recently, how to make none Kespa events visually different on TLPD. Not definite on how it's going to be done but it's a good idea.

!olleH I've been around Team Liquid for quite some time, although I just joined as a member. Today was the first time I've felt the urge to post something myself.
Anyways, my suggestion is adding a column for rating performance to the player index page. Preferably to the right of the ELO rating column as this image illustrates:
Performance rating is an estimate of a players recent performance. Simply speaking it will indicate who's on fire at the moment and who's hmm... erh, not as much on fire at the moment.
I have used a practical way of calculating performance rating in the above example, using the 10 most recent games of each player. There are a few different ways to do it, but I don't feel the need to go in depth of the mathematical aspects at this stage.
Calms performance rating indicates that he's emerging as one of the top players in professional starcraft. Performance rating becomes even more interesting when trying to predict results in specific matchups. For example, Jaedong isn't doing terribly well at the moment and his performance rating of 2169 versus YellOw[ArnC]s 2261 is suggesting that the OSL finals could become a more even fight than one might expect!
The bottom line; performance rating is useful because it gives us an objective (although not always accurate) version of today's "Power Rank"!

ELO is supposed to be an accurate representation of a player's current skill level, I don't see how your idea is different except yours just leads to more inflated results. If you could explain the math behind it I'd appreciate it, although I really don't see a need for another rating.

i like the idea, its basically a more volatile "power rank" that shows some data that is more specific than ELO provides

#p4NDemik While ELO rating is a statistical estimate of a players skill level, it assumes that the mean value of the performances of any given player changes only slowly over time and is therefore not a "current" estimate of a players skill level.
As I said before there are a number of different ways calculate performance ratings. Details -->+ Show Spoiler +Before you calculate the performance rating you limit the number of games to a specific period, count(as in the above case) or event. Then you calculate the ratings based on a formula based on the ELO-system but with one important difference; the formula does not include the players own ELO-rating (google it to get the specific formulas). This means older (or in some cases newer) achievements doesn't affect performance rating.
I find two useful implementations for performance ratings here on TL: 1. Estimating a particular players skill level in a specific tournament. Let me give you an example of this. + Show Spoiler + In this post Hot_Bid was very impressed with Calms play in the latest MSL: "10-1 in the Avalon MSL. That's 91%!" Here it would be more relevant to announce that Calm has achieved xxxx performance rating in the Avalon MSL, because pr takes the opponents skill level into consideration as well as the win record. If you continue reading his post, you might actually consider Hot_Bid to give his own subjective performance rating of Calms recent play. 2. The second implementation was the one I talked about earlier. Namely an "ELO PR" column in the player index page. (Boring details) --> + Show Spoiler +Calculating the rating based on the latest n games or games during the last n months doesn't matter so much in this case. A time interval would probably be a little more accurate for players who are inactive etc, while the count-version is easier to implement. The ELO rating, with its smoothing-out effect, is relatively more accurate accessing a players skill over a longer period of time, say the whole year. Comparably ELO performance rating is relatively more accurate to how a player will perform in a shorter time-span, one example being his next game. Thus they are both relevant.
Furthermore the ELO PR has an additional informative quality when in a column next to ELO rating as it shows weather a player is moving up or down the ladder, similar to the "Pts Prog." column on the Kespa ratings page.
---- edit: Hot_Bid unexpected but nice to see you dropping in! hope you don't mind that i referred to your MSL-coverage in my example ;-)

Hmmm well I still don't think there's really a need for it, but it does seem to have some merit to it. Mainly because there is already Tourney-specific ELO, and adding extra ratings would just confuse more people.
If it were to be implemented though, I would suggest a time-limiting factor rather than games. It would be more accurate at giving an idea of a players current skill level, as many players have their last 10 games stretched over the course of 4 months to a year, but may still rank high because they won the few games they played.

Say WHAT!? I didn't know there were Tourney-specific ELO! In that case we probably have some kind of performance rating already.
Thanks man!

Click on any league in TLPD, then click the "Player Stats" button. It's the furthest right column.

Hyuk has 4 game winning streak currently marked but it should be 8 right?

STX Masters games don't count towards streaks/ELO.

i would love it if TLPD showed a list of all teams X player was ever on and during which seasons/years.
