This only happens once every four years, just go with it. At least that's the way I approach it. But maybe I'm a junkie of sorts.

Kudos to the mod staff for handling last night well.

And just to reinforce the need for the ban on tweets, remember all of those tweets that were posted in the US Politics Thread suggesting that Trump didn't have a prayer and was going to get wiped out? Yeah....

I don't understand how that helps the argument against tweets. The common wisdom is that Trump was trailing, as evidenced by everyone everywhere. The tweets of polls showing Clinton up are an example of that. That the tweets were incorrect don't have relevance to the discussion whether they're low content or not. The idea that tweets are low content and there should be fewer irrelevant tweets is true regardless of whether they turned out to be false or not, and the inverse is not an argument for.
Also yes, the politics thread was very well managed. I disliked the direction it went to early in the morning 9-12 EST, but the rest was good.

Tweets are allowed in the same vein as posts: ones that contribute nothing are actioned.
Posting a tweet of something that adds to the discussion is fine.

I think the moderation team handled election night well, though a few useless gloats snuck in.

I'm still working my way through every post I missed when I was asleep, give it time.

Did you seriously warn me for this:

Hmm. Were you an asshole about it? I have Facebook friends who sleep around more than is good for them. But you better believe I'd get unfriended if I posted on their wall about how much of a slut they are. I've seen all sorts of sad shit and sobbing on Facebook from my friends (the vast majority of whom are liberal). There really isn't anything to be gained by commenting or throwing in my two cents. Hell, even if I wanted to be mean and rub the election in their faces (which many of them deserve, by the way), there is nothing that I could say that would be worse than the election result itself. Best to just remain silent. Which is classy, and I'm sure appreciated. how do you know how much sleeping around is good for your friends? User was warned for this post
And not warn the slut shamer I was responding to? Is this the casual sexism we tolerate on TL?

Yes, I warned you for that, because you were posting off topic.
No, I haven't warned Yoav because I'm still working through a huge backlog of posts.

People are allowed to post stupid comments so long as they phrase them properly, they fit the discussion and are not insulting anyone etc...

it insults the intelligence of anyone who reads it.

climate experts have changed their dire projections too many times in the past 50 years and it has cost their profession credibility.
i "pay attention to outcomes" when it comes to these projections. The more incorrect projections the "expert" makes the less credibility the expert has.

how hot october was is not a "projection"

time to increase SO2 emissions to cool the earth off.

overall I'd say thread is somewhat better than it used to be.

It's certainly transformed in the aftermath of Trump's victory. Some problematic posters took a less active role, others took a more active role in recent times.

There's still some problem people who could use weeding out a bit though to make the thread a better place, and a few who need nudges.
