Sure, tribal identification, whatever you want to call it. The point is generalizing people such that nuance is lost and differences are artificially enlarged. It's not as bad here as say, reddit, but it's still bad.
An example would be exactly what you are talking about in your post. There is nothing productive about that statement, and it's surely not quite accurate.

The fact that this thread is very harshly judged is there right in the header, and the reason why it has its own ban list which is not site wide (unless you do a site wide offense).

for the record i was arguing in good faith and i didn’t realize iamthedave was arguing in bad faith until near the end. i even like iamthedave and was looking forward to his responses.
as to “shitting up the thread” and “low content posting” i honestly dont get the big deal. shit is kind of relative, and i understand that. personally i find posts like gorsameth’s list of ‘why conservatives are idiots’ to be shit. and i generally like reading stuff gorsameth posts. short posts are at least easy to read and/or skip. its the big posts of shit that are most annoying

Ok, I see some misapprehensions are being spread about me and feel I ought to defend myself.
I wasn't arguing in bad faith and was perfectly willing to have a discussion. In addition I happen to like you too, but on that instance I felt you were being unnecessarily obtuse when simply stating what you felt was off would have been fine. I've been involved in far, far too many discussions on this site where someone uses the exact formulations you did to declare 'no, I wasn't saying that'.
So if I was arguing for anything it was to get you to clearly state either what you thought I was saying or what your own initial objections were, that you felt I'd misunderstood. I don't consider that bad faith, and if you'd done so I would have happily continued in the vein of normal posting.
I appreciate your point about asking rhetorical questions but the questions themselves seemed, to me, to be bordering on irrelevant to the point you were replying to.
Nonetheless, I certainly never intended to give the impression of bad faith and am sorry you got that impression.

So, from a reader's perspective, the one-post PBU or random troll instigator accounts tend to be disruptive in that it leads the conversation pretty silly places, and tend to wreck otherwise interesting topics. I'd be surprised if this wasn't suggested before, but not having read through this entire feedback thread - have you considered adding a 10-post (or something) post minimum to post in that specific thread, or requiring the account to be at least a month old?
