I do love the prevailing concept that not knowing when your next pay check might come in isn’t a huge deal. Because it’s not like people known when the president is going to decide sign a budget. And that somehow federal workers are these magical people that are not a majority of working class Americans.

And people get hung up on the hyperbolic comments because they were of the classic “none of this matters and you are silly for getting worked up about it”.

If it's a huge deal there's a few million people that have been waiting for this type of energy and will wonder where it went after the government opens.

It's not the economic inconveniences that has people bothered primarily, it's who is experiencing them. It's been a theme the whole Trump admin.

Sure. Not really relevant to this discussion about moderation, but sure.

It is in the way it relates to my original observation. People's misfortune has been disregarded in far more flagrant ways without consequence, what changed from my perspective was who's misfortune was made to seem insignificant.

If the same standard is going to be applied to all peoples fine, if it's just for US fed workers that's kinda a dick move just my $0.02

Seems clear he's talking about the political implications not whether fed workers are going to feel like poor Americans for a couple weeks and the trouble that causes for people.

This was my perspective as well after reading back a few pages.

I remember several posters alleging the 2016 election was gone for Republicans because Boehner’s house shut down the government over Obamacare funding/etc. Clearly, that was a bit exaggerated. If the perspective is allowed that this one and past ones will have deep political ramifications, surely we can tolerate the perspective that it won’t fucking matter because nobody cares.

It may seem insensitive or whatever, but as aforementioned, these happen all the damn time. I recall the past ones number in the dozens, but couldn’t tell you for sure which years and which principal figures for more than maybe 3-4. If anybody here can tell me how deeply they hurt for the federal employees and recall the stories hardship every time and of course they were monumental, then go for it.

A shutdown is not a life-changing event for most. Most of the time, for most people, they do what they can to get over a temporary hardship, and move on. What I'm not gonna do is suggest that nobody is ever affected in any meaningful way by a shutdown, and so it's pointless to be upset that one ever happens. More to the point, I'm not going to go "oh, ok" and start looking at a government shutdown as a mere valid political play. It's the result of refusing to play within the box prescribed by our system of government in the first place, and it still fucks with people in a real way.

It is the definition of a unforced error and will only impact more people if it drags on. The brief flirtation the democrats had with one was a dumpster fire and this one is somehow dumber because it is over 5 billion dollars.

So, this isn't Website Feedback anymore, please move it back to the respective threads.
Seems Kadaver and Introvert had a good pm chat after the fact, so I think everything should be more or less good?

If Introvert agreed with some reasoning KBB provided. This is the first I heard there was an exchange of PMs and they were mutually advantageous. Website feedback: Ban note was shit and needs explaining.

I was going to be all up in pitchforks over this, but then again, it is Introvert. Only the usual suspects would care for him. Calling other people's opinions as mock outrage isn't exactly constructive anyways.

If people wanna trash talk me by name at least do it in my blog where I can respond to the silly arguments you make.

By the way I chose not to come back to the thread and I stay banned as to not get tempted to argue there for reasons laid out a dozen times

Just for a moment of reflection someone want to find me the best criticism of Democrats in your thread out of the last 10 or so pages (go back as far as you need to find one though)?

You could also look for a page that isn't talking shit about Trump/his supporters. It might help folks understand the feedback provided previously.

zlefin’s ban is a confounding factor
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

I think I mentioned it before but I was willing to give him a chance in the blog since we had talked in PM's before and despite him driving me up the damn wall I could empathize enough that I think we could have made it work more or less.

z-man couldn’t handle being back on the site and not being able to send angry PMs to people he disagreed with.

I do have to note: it did not take particularly long to go from “Introvert is proof that we can have productive, high quality discussions with conservatives” to discussing how problematic his posting is, how his ideas are mired in hyperbole, how there’s a history of doing wrong, and how people are tired of it - just the same cycle as every other active predecessor. It’s not surprising, but, well, here we are.

Posters have different views on the posting habits of other posters. The sun also rises.

I'm confrontational, hardheaded (the stubborn connotations), talk a lot of trash about Democrats and relate most issues back to how I see them connecting to capitalism and other social phenomena.

Can people from the thread identify some of the valid criticism of themselves? Farv suggests the outlook is not good.
