The restart is good and opens the thread up to more people. Thread specific bans also solves the “politics brings out the worst in people “ problem. I trust the mods won’t suddenly become evil overlords. Well not any more than they already are.

I for one am excited by the prospect of subjective moderation. There have been a number of instances of late where the thread gets derailed by massive arguments that put me off from participating, but none of the posts explicitly broke any rules, so it clearly felt to me like an update was welcome, and I can tell the mods took their time in making the decision.

I second this. Everyone who uses the thread regularly is well intentioned, but far from perfect. I have no problem being called out(warned) for being back on my bullshit. It will hopefully keep arguments from escalating into rehashes of older arguments.

I hope this new system works out and lasts. sometimes in the past there were attempts that lasted for awhile, but after a couple of months stopped being enforced.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Plus, I really don't get how the new thread is going to be moderated any differently than the old one was. The moderation has always been very subjective. If there was an ever an objective standard that was universally applied, I sure as hell couldn't describe it. The inconsistency in moderation has been rampant.

aye, it always starts off better after one of these pushes. the question is whether they stick with it or not. (and to some extent everyone is also just extra careful after a change til the new system is tested).

If a mad bomber suddenly blows himself up, or an ongoing mass shooting is stopped, a stand-alone tweet announcing it is probably okay without discussion. However, a comment someone made at a press briefing needs to include discussion. When in doubt, posters should always add their own discussion to any tweets or articles that they bring in.

If Micronesia is serious about a dividing line between a report on breaking news and something like a press briefing, StealthBlue will cross it in the future. That’s when we’ll know if there’s a change with enforcing rules on the ban hammer class.
