I don't get hiccups like most others. When I get them I get them for at least two to three days, sometimes even a week. I will fall asleep and wake up to hiccuping. You may think it's funny and not really that annoying but it sucks a lot. Hiccups at first are just a mild annoyance but after hours it effects my breathing and hurts my stomach. I went to the doctor and he didn't think I was serious at first but eventually he came back with some medicine that didn't do anything. I only get hiccups a few times a year so it's not on the top of my priority list...especially since they EVENTUALLY go away.
I used to be able to get rid of them by holding my breath but it rarely works now. It only sometimes works when I hold my breath so long that it hurts and feels like I'm gonna pass out...and it only gets rid of them for like an hour at most. I just woke up this morning with hiccups and its lame cause I know I'm gonna have to deal with it all day during work and most likely tomorrow and the next day...anyone have any hiccup cures? I've tried everything.

Get someone to press on your eardrums whilst drinking a glass of water and pressing yourself on the belly. Works like a charm - or makes you look like an idiot, not sure which (it actually sorta works).

I've got a theory (nothing as scientific as that word makes it sound) that says hiccups are caused by dehydration. Usually lots of water then hold your breath for a while works for me. Sounds like a more serious thing for you though.

OK, I have a solution that has never failed me since I discovered it.
Take a HUGE breath, I mean the MAXIMUM you can take in your lungs. Hold the air in and continue adding more air focefully by using your mouth as a pump: take a 'bite' of air and push that air to the lungs. Keep doing it until you start feeling uncomfortable. THEN HOLD for as long as you can!
this has never failed me. let me know if it works for you, or if you need more clarification.

If you try with all your will to hiccup once more you'll never be able to. It takes a lot of will power though.

Omg I just realised hiccup and iccup are basically the same word except with an h. This just blew my mind.

You might want to ask your doctor about your hiccups next time you go because 2-3 days every time you get them is a little abnormal.
Edit: Wait nvm you asked your doctor...so I dunno. Apparently people have gone years hiccuping which is pretty amazing.

Water and holding my breath always helps with hiccups.

Oh man I really feel for you.. this sounds so nasty! You should deffinetly try niteReloaded's trick, I approve it be couse I do the exact same thing myself and it works fine... but your case seems to be alot more rough than any other so I wish you luck with this!

What i do is either keep pumping up air like nite, or i take a breath, then exhale all i can as quicky as possible and keep holding my breath. It always works and my hiccups are gone within like 10 seconds of it starting.
As a result people who walk around hiccuping annoy me

i really hope you fix your hiccups. Hiccuping people are annoying as hell.
|
I'm always too scared to hold my breath so I just down a ridiculous amount of water, works 100%.

i thought that the title was a pun on iccup, i guess not :D

Last time I got a hiccup, I realized I haven't really experienced one properly in a long time, coz I always stop it immediately. So I walked around the house hiccuping for like 5 minutes and then it got annoying again.

I typically don't get hiccups either, and when I do they last for anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours.
The other day at work I got hiccups and a friend there told me if I stare at one object and really focus on it, it would stop them. So I looked at the logo on the frame of the monitor in the office, and just focused on it and after a moment they were gone.
I don't know if this works realistically or if it was just a coincidence but I guess it's worth a shot.

hiccups are really irritating when you get them lol. I think the remedy is just to gulp down warm water (which works for me most of the time)

lol same. I thought he was doing some kind of play on words or something. But hiccuping sucks man, the way I get through mine is i hold my breath and swallow three times, if i can without hiccuping through that Im usually fine.

There's one that usually works for me. My dad says "I'll give you $__ if you can hiccup 5 more times." Usually I get to 3 or 4 and then they're gone. It works if I say it to myself too.
