When I first saw this thread and was about to click it, I said. ' Are you shitting me? ' After reading all the posts in this thread I went on to say ' Wow, you MUST be shitting me ' People people people. What is wrong with you? Final Fantasy 7 is without a doubt better than Final Fantasy 8 in almost all aspects. I played FF8 first so the bias of playing which game first definitely does not apply to me. Final Fantasy 8 is to me [ A person who's played Ffs 2-10 ] the worst Final Fantasy ever. It shouldn't even be called that. It should just be called 8. Because it's not worthy of the title Final Fantasy. I'm one of those people who takes these games to extremes during summer breaks or when I first buy the game, I try to complete everything 100%. I've succeded in most of them. Excluding 9 I just had to put that game away. It totally was a complete disaster compared to the old FF's that contained the job systems. The things I grade a FF by are Story, Originality, Re-playability, Longevity of impact after, and most importantly Gameplay. Graphics to me do not matter. To me a real gamer does not consider Graphics when looking at a game. Yes I understand to some degree graphics can be rated. Let's take some classic examples. Tetris, no matter how good the graphics of this game, no one will care for it. They just want the basics or GAMEPLAY of tetris. Mario, No matter how good you make the graphics, people still are in love with the jump and bash action and the STORY of saving the princess. In conclusion, To me anyone that uses graphics as a game rating option, their opinion is completely useless. Now I understand that to a certain degree graphics are important, like no one wants to play the 16-bit graphics games anymore unless you have some other aspect of the game that is INCREDIBLE. Like Duckhunt ^_^ The replayability is godlike. Final Fantasy 7 is considered as one of the best games ever. Final Fantasy 8 on the other hand is not. This is the first place I've seen more FF8 fans than FF7 fans. The character development is insanely better than FF8. Each character has a realistic background and the intertwined stories are also amazing. The hidden love story is more subtle than that of FF8 therefore I consider it much better as it is not one of the games main focuses. To Daniel: The only possible explanation of why you could cry after FF8 is because you had some personal experience that was similar. There is no way that I can see anyone crying because of FF8's storyline. The Materia system is genious, I'm sure that no other FF game has come close to the pure customizeability of the Materia System. The drawing system pissed me off when the end result of it came to LionHeart, one of the cheapest thigns I've ever seen, and you hardly had to work for it compared to the ultra-godlike weapons and magics in other FFs. If you're going to pit two FF's against each other, pit FF6 and FF7 those to me are the best FF's and also my top two RPGs of all time. Here is the fucking retarded thread, I'm sure most of you will pull a OvazioFrio frustration attack when you read it. - http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/showthread.php?t=25568&page=1&pp=14&highlight=Final Fantasy

FF8 gave me much more fun than FF7. FF7 just seems so basic to me or something. It's hard to explain. It's just a kid chasing around a bad guy to me. I mean, at least Squall falls in love with Rinoa throughout FF8. I'm not really thinking straight right now so I can't really debate but FF8 gave me much more fun. Sorry. But they are all inferior to Starcraft.

FF7 was pretty good. It had a lot of lame and silly areas (like going through Cloud's head, dressing Cloud up as a girl, Gold Saucer, etc.) but overall it was fun. The main downside is its fanboy appeal. This game has more fanboys than any other game I've ever seen. This is the "Dragonball Z" of games. FF8 was terrible. When I interviewed for my job they asked "what was the worst game you've ever played?" and FF8 was my answer. This was not a good game. It was a disgrace to the series. Sadly the FF series never came back from this. 9 was lame, X was pretty lame too and while I haven't played X-2, I've heard it's worse than X. Nothing is as bad as 8 though. FF6 is still the reigning champion. It just has the best "fun factor" and that's all there is to it. Starting with FF7, FF games have been more about playing until you unlock the next cinematic. It's basically killing time until you reach the next movie. FF6 is actually FUN. I beat that game so many times I lost count. FF5 is awesome too, that comes in at a close second.

I know you talk about how bad FF8 is, but some people like it. If that's the case, I think it's worth being around. I mean, if it wern't for FF8, I might not even be playing SC. There are pros and cons to both FF7 and FF8. I'm sure I'm just as qualified to make a judgement as you. As practically the entire pre-teen years of my life up until 13 consisted of Final Fantasy. ALso, Final Fantasy 7 is the first PC game I ever played so I don't think I'm "biased" either.

FF8 isn't a bad RPG, but it doesn't deserve the Final Fantasy name since it only has things in common with FF7 FF1-8 were good, everything after that sucked ass......9-11 (including 10-2) are worse than Mystic Quest....the long forgotten Final Fantasy.

obviously 6 and 7 are better, but 8 was still a really good game with a good storyline, and an AMAZING soundtrack

Uhh.. 7 was art. It's by far the best one for the PS1, and it left many good memories for me. Cloud was an awesome character, and Seph would be the best villian if it wasn't for Kefka! Yup, Final Fantasy 6 was just pure awesomeness. I have played and beaten that game so many times, you have no idea... I got like over 80 of those econimizers (that make every spell 1 MP) and almost all characters level 99 with all spells. My best guys could kill the final Kefka in 2 moves. I just LOVED that game. Anybody else play the original Final Fantasy for the NES? That is such a hard game compared to the easy FF games noawadays. You have to buy one potion at a time, you can't save in the last level unless you bought "warp" for your white mage to exit the final dungeon, can't revive your dead characters in final level, etc. 10 was pretty good and fun, but I found too many things almost copied from 7.... at least I thought so... and I never liked Titus. What a pussy. But the blitzball intro made me go "Woah!" the first time. :D X-2 was pretty bad, but amused me this summer. They got better in their voice acting that game... the voice acting in 10 was atrocious... so horriblely bad. 9 was ok. I went through it without getting bored, but it didn't leave an impression and I almost forgot about it. I have to say I didn't like Zidane much, and the other charcters were much as "meh". Like Steiner... how annoying! He's like Silver Knight from Hack Sign. But all in all, I have to say the Xeno-Series is better than the FF series. It's a lot deeper and has similar elements from FF, but I feel it is targeted to an older age group.
