he originally planned to retire after army but he got contract from freecs so he did more but his skill and passion for game both fell and his contract w/ freecs expired in feb.
He's open to streaming both SC1 and SC2, also casting SC2 but after a break. He said SC1 streaming is in plans but SC2 streaming is bit more difficult conditions due to lack of people to stream with.

sad but understandable, hope he does well in SC1! His ASL performances seemed to have potential, and KR is obviously kinder to SC1 streamers right now
Saw this coming. It makes sense too, it will take him a good while to get up to speed to where he can start winning again after his military service and by then there's no guarantee there will even be GSL anymore. Nevermind the fact the prize pool is such a pittance now.
Look forward to watching him stream BW or watching him continue to compete wherever he can in SC2. He retires as one of the greats regardless.
He's still pretty good at BW. He just recently qualified for ASL and then beat Jaedong (albeit, a very washed up JD), but lost to Jyj and Shuttle in his group. I'm always amazed that these players can go back to BW and pick it up immediately after years and years of SC2. I suspect a lot of them still play it on the side, but even then!
Yeah sc2 is bleeding and scbw will stay. I think it is because of freedom of play. You have so much more possibilities in scbw due to early game eco and better balancing. There is no 12 worker start, there is 1 base play, there is a real caveat when expanding, no zerg creep speed, no queens, etc.
Unfortunately Stormgate already shows the same problems with its economy and gameplay model.
I guess the future is and will be SC:BW :D
I hope to see new ASL influx of players. TY being one of them
So now out of Miz's GOAT list, we have 2 fully retired from Starcraft (Inno and Mvp), 2 playing BroodWar (Rain and TY), 2 in the army (Rogue and Zest), 2 still competing in SC2 but struggling (soO and sOs), and 2 still competing at the highest level (Serral and Maru presumably).

He has real potential in coming back to BW and making it to the top if he streams it fulltime and keeps practicing. His multitasking is sick. But I hope he just does whatever makes him most happy.
If he wants, he can definitely make it into the Broodwar scene over there. It's a very streaming heavy job compared to SC2, but with all the casting TY did in the past, he might be up for it.

the real appeal bw has over sc2 is depth of micro
The visuals, sound, constant innovation, skirmished in battle are what made bw the pinnacle esports and what created esports. Don't ever disrespect bw like that.
