So I watched the dark knight today and to be honest I didn't like it. So everyone around me thinks this is movie of the year and these are all the people I really respect. I read some of the negative reviews of the film and didn't agree with them. So I have no justification.
So now I'm left with not liking a film that people are raving about for no good reason. I feel like I'm missing out on free crack. I'm even considering watching it again just to try and figure out why I didn't enjoy it. Just to be clear I enjoyed heath's performance and the action scenes etc, but the movie as a whole I didn't.
Has something like this ever happened to you?
EDIT - Well now I'm even more aggravated since after telling my friend that I didn't like the movie the first dammed response I get is:
"Are you sure there's nothing in the water down there?"
STUPID HYPE MACHINE MOVIE!

Yeah, happened to me with Lord of the rings. Everyone was like "this is the best movie I've ever seen". I thought it was boring as hell. I've tried to seen it 3 more times, each time looking forward to it because I try to think "this is a good movie"...but I always get dissapointed and simply bored to death.

I'm probably not even gonna watch it, the whole superhero stuff is so stupid, and a guy wearing a bat costume sounds like the most retarded thing ever, I guess I just don't get batman, or superheroes in general.
|
What's the big deal?
As a guy who listens to breakcore/glitch and watches gore/splatter/exploitation/sleazeploitation (not exclusively though) etc. i can tell you it happens A LOT, i don't give a shit though, i think its fun.

I dont like superhero movies either, but this isnt a regular "superhero" thing, because he doesnt have any supernatural powers, just technology. Thats why I like batman.

Well the big deal is the entire universe around me is raving about this movie, it's quite frustrating to not even vaguely understand why.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" I enjoy batman as a character for this reason, he's still a kind of superhero because of it.
|
But Batman's technology is not so sufficiently advanced that we can't comprehend it; it's just the shit we got in the labs right now, but made 30% stronger/lighter/faster/better and 4000% more reliable. Also why I really liked Iron Man.

I keep hearing how the movies > books. And there was so much hype about the books. The LOTR books were the shittiest three books I read in high school. Excluding absolute crap that my English class required me to pretend to read, which I actually didn't, so those don't count anyways.

yeah i didn't thoroughly enjoy it either, i thought it was ok nothing too special.

I can see why you didn't like the movie as a whole. Personally I loved it, but ya it was a little too long, the plot got somewhat confused near the end. What bugged me the most was how the writers tried to shovel all their philosophy into 20 minutes of dialogue near the end. *yawn* If it was shorter, I would've given it a 9.5/10. As it is, I scored it at an 8/10, with the early half being a 10/10.
What was appealing was just how bloody dark the movie was. There was a real sense of *shit is really bad mannn* throughout the movie, and that tension is what made it so terrific. It was also just fascinating watching joker. He really was a monster, and you were scared of what he could do the way hannibal lecter was scary. His antiques were insanely creative.
Another downside was two-face. There was a lot of potential with that character that wasn't really tapped into.
