We would like to announce that we have signed Lucas "steelega" Lopes from Immortals. He will be replacing Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz as our permanent fifth player starting at IEM Oakland this week.
steel is a talented and experienced player who accomplished much during his time on Immortals. As the team's leader, steel helped his team to a silver medal at the Krakow Major among other achievements. He is a well-respected figure in Counter-Strike and a consummate professional, and he will add both firepower and leadership to our squad. We hope that this change will propel us further and give us more tools to compete against the best teams in the world.
"Steel is the most professional player I know. His positive attitude and skillset fit our needs perfectly and we are excited with what's ahead of us."
"Feliz demais em ter o leguinha no Liquid! Ele vai trazer toda raça e garra Brasileira e espero que todos continuem torcendo por nós!!"
- Wilton "zews" Prado
Tune in as steel makes his debut for Team Liquid this week at IEM Oakland from November 11 to November 19. Cheer for the team and our newest addition as we take on the rest of Group B. We'll be squaring off against RNG in our first game of the tournament, so make sure to check Liquipedia or our twitter for updates on when we play.
Surely they could have waited on this move for that specific reason. To need to bring the coach in for an event of this significance is a massive handicap when they have Stan right there
Did read about this before IBP, pretty expected after yesterday.
Stan and JDM are holding liquid back. I dont say they are bad, JDM shows seriously insane games sometimes, Stan can also put up good shows, but then again these two dive down and show several games whithout impact. And thats pretty terrible for a team, because with constant "good" performances of these two, they would run much deeper then with the occasional top notch maps, that get you one round further when its close otherwise and then lackluster maps, that kick you out of the events you should win.
And ever since Stan became "2nd caller" or "midround I call too"-caller, he was not needed anymore in any way. When dedicated IGLs lose their calling, they are just dead weight and lost their purpose. Like Pronax on Godsent, when he stopped calling there. Every decently intelligent (not IQ, but intelligence towards the game) player should be able to "help midround calling".
Happy for Steel tho, even I dont like Liquids CS team, he deserved better then the fiasco that the Immortals Management made and called a team. On paper the Team has alot of potenital, hope they move the calling to Steel, free up Nitros mind and Steel is able to use the potential of his new players. The Immortals managment must bite themself for their decision to get the reddit karma instead of just giving out PR statements and a financial fine, they benched him...and then were forced to kick as he didnt follow orders, because he wanted to win and make the team winning. Now they are left with a zqks team. Deserved.

Reddit karma? Immortals handled the situation as good as an org could. And they're still on the shittiest end of the deal. They've shown tremendous level of respect towards the scene and their players (yes, even the ones at fault, these guys even doubled down by bypassing kNg's suspension).
Big surprise, with the Major qualifier coming up I did not expect this at all. Big loss for the team currently playing with such disadvantage. Their loss against Cloud9 was unexpected but it's a peculiar reason to bench stan considering the time of the year. I felt that stan brought some team cohesion into the mix. But Twistzz under nitro's leadership seems to have elevated to another level. Great to see him compete with the best so often nowadays. Let's see if he can shine under steels calling, if he is indeed calling.
