This also has an attempt to differentiate the disruptor from the colossus while giving robo some kind of anti-air defenses.
Remember numbers are not final.
Oracle
Pulsar Beam
-No longer does damage
-Target a unit, after 2 seconds that unit becomes frozen for 4 seconds.
-Perhaps upgrade that allows damage.
Application: The 2 seconds for the affect to go in is the same time it takes for an Oracle to kill a worker now. So the skill of having to micro an oracle is still there and good players will be able to show their skill. It gets rid of the mineral line clearing that the unit had. Now, it disrupts mining by freezing the units for a short time. It keeps all the harassment potential the unit had before, without the frustration of losing an entire mineral line. It can also be useful in the def still as it will freeze units and disallow them from attacking, meaning zealots/adepts can have less attacking them at a time.
Disruptor
-Disruption Nova Removed
-Phase Mine Added
-Deploy-The Disruptor becomes immobile and cloaked. Can now deploy Phase mines. Takes 3 seconds to deploy.
-Phase mine-The disruptor places a mine at the targeted location. Within range 10. After 3 seconds the mine is deployed and is cloaked (Disruptor is visible while planting mines.) The mine will attach itself to an enemy unit that comes within range 5 of it (including air units). After 5 seconds it detonates dealing damage to the target and splash to nearby units. Each disruptor can only deploy 4 mines at a time. Active mines are returned to the disruptor if it un deploys.
-New ability-Phase Shift- The disruptor becomes invincible for 8 seconds allowing it to escape from enemies that detect it. 20 second cooldown
Application: First, It differentiates the colossus and the Disruptor. Second, it gives protoss a way to deal with air threats at robo tech. Third, it gives protoss a way to defend their bases better. A Disruptor can set up a few mines to defend against drops or defend an expansion better. Fourth, The Phase shift allows it to function as board control, but gives it a way to escape. It has a way to retain itself due to it’s tech level and cost. Fifth, the short delay allows a good player to separate the affected unit to mitigate the damage.
Widow Mine
-Splash range down from 1.75 to 1
-Reload time changed from 40 seconds to 10
-2 second root time
-Target range increased from 5 to 6
-No longer is cloaked when it deploys
-Tunneling claws-Now allows the widow mine to burrow rendering it invisible.
Application:First, the reduced radius means it is slightly less effective at destroying large groups of enemies. So it reduces the frustration of players losing their whole mineral line to a drop. Second, Root instead of burrow means they are visible. So in the early game they are less effective. The faster burrow time makes up for this. Third, the faster reload speed makes up for the reduced splash radius. So it can be used as cheap board control unit instead of a 1 hit wonder as often happens. Fourth, The tunnel claws upgrade allows it to retain the same spot it has now as a support for bio, but gets rid of the early game frustration of having it dropped in a mineral line before detection is available.
