With Blizzard's decision to test the removal of macro mechanics, I wanted to get a better idea of how the community felt about that decision. The best way for me to do that, I think, is to give a short survey before the change, and then see if and/or how attitudes change after the test has gone live for a few days.
I will share all of this information with everyone, worry not!
This survey will run from now until the release of the patch with the macro mechanics changes. If you want to throw your opinion out there, take the survey (it should only take you 5ish minutes, if that).
The link to the survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/583WBDH
Please share this and spread it around, so I can get the biggest amount of data possible. Perhaps Blizzard will be interested to see your opinions in numerical form!
EDIT:
Survey is currently CLOSED.
Analysis is underway!
EDIT: 20 August Some overall analysis has been posted! http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/legacy-of-the-void/492649-community-questionnaire-about-macro-mechanics?page=2#38

So you're measuring the difference between people's expectations and reality? Will be interesting to see the results.
|
I filled it out and hit submit. Then the whole page cleared all my answers with no explanation. Feels like a defective government website or something.
Edit: Never mind it's two different polls back to back that look similar upon first glance. I'm an idiot.
|
The thing is that reddit did this poll and over 80% of the people want changed macro mechanics.
The poll was only up for 24 hours but still....

That's really strange. SurveyMonkey usually works quickly and easily. :/

I don't know if I'd say reality. I'm curious as to what people think about it before it happens, and I want to see if it changes after testing starts. I'm also really interested in how opinions change as a function of league and familiarity with Legacy of the Void.

I think this is a more detailed poll than what was on reddit.

Very interesting initiative, and rather well done and targeted. I filled the questions.
You should probably update the results at some points, I'd be interested to see how people feel. I'd like to know in particular in league influences the answers.

Yeah, I'll be doing a breakdown after the next patch goes live. I'm really interested to see responses, and I'll put my findings in here then.

The poll was only up for 24 hours but still.... Reddit is also 80% Zerg players.

This is awesome and I'm looking forward to the results. It might be better if the questions were phrased in such a way that you could ask basically the same question post-patch and compare the before and after. An example would be, scale of 1-7, "I think removing macro mechanics will players to perform more strategic and interesting micro" and "Removing macro mechanics has allowed players to perform more strategic and interesting micro". This would compare expectations to reality as mentioned above, and I would be interested in this as well.
People have compared the negative reaction to removing macro mechanics as similar to the outcry from auto-mining workers and MBS and how they kind of disappeared after enough time. It would be nice to get some graphs and numbers and see if the people concerned about simplifying the mechanics of the game were overly concerned prior to its implementation.

Great idea! looking forward to see the results.

Almost half of the sample is zerg, somehow.

Excellent idea! Most of this forum are just people yelling YES! or NO! to the OP anyways, so it's great to see all of that condensed into a more-helpful format.
Also, when will be getting a sneak-peak at the results?

I'm not going to really dig into the data until after I close the survey, but I can drop demographics on the first 100 respondents.
More than half of respondents reported being Diamond+ in Swarm currently. All of the numbers are shifted slightly upward in the "highest attained" question, but that's expected. 2 respondents claimed professional status, with an additional person claiming ex-pro status. In Legacy, 45 of 82 respondents claimed diamond+ status. I would put a chart here, but the ones that SurveyMonkey provides do not lend themselves to easy reading for more complex questions like these.*
Race demographics: + Show Spoiler +
Reported game focus: + Show Spoiler +
Seriosity & Funhaving: + Show Spoiler +
The 7 point items are all in a gigantic and fairly hard to read table, so I'm not going to try to parse the data using SurveyMonkey's readout; you'll just have to wait until I export the data and start analyzing it for that!
We can pretty conclusively say, though, that this respondents wouldn't really fall into the "casual" category. I have not yet put this on the b.net forums, though I will get to that eventually.
*I recognize that they're not complicated questions, but the way I had to enter them to get around SurveyMonkey's question limit means that they're more complex on the back end.

Hey thanks for doing this. It's quite interesting to see the statistics and get a gauge for how the silent majority thinks, rather than just the ones most vocal on the forums.
|
It is a nice thing, thanks for the topic and the poll. I already completed it
|
Imo its best for bigger audiance, it does make it easy'r tho. But its a strategy game aftheral not a Mechanic game.
|
Cool.
Maybe a followup survey a bit into the trial period where only players who have tried the new mechanics out answer. See if opinions change.
|
I stopped halfway through. Using too many loaded words in the questions, and asking me to predict things that no one can possibly know, so I felt I couldn't answer them properly, and that there were too many ways to interpret the questions, so that the replies will be close to meaningless. Got frustrated at the survey more than anything.
Anyway, gl with the analysis, hopefully you can pull something meaningful out...

im in one of those moods but is this a 'lets get a top post' thread. What are you going to do with the info. i read this and the reddits out there i can tell you that generally people DONT want it to change but if you force the issue for long enough people just get used to it. kind of like the 12 worker start, i dont know about you but people are liking this addition.
So to save you some time people dont generally want it.
