You're actually from Haltern? That's so weird, it's such a tiny town and suddenly I see it in the news and see a TL member from there.

This is terrible and I hate to hear when stuff like this happens, my condolences to the lost and to there loved ones. God bless.

what is very strange: it seems no passagier send a sms or message via handy to there family, so why they dont send a last message to there family in the moment that they know, the plane will chrash?
mby suddenly the handys dont work? or it was kind of a toxic gas? or mby terrorists envolved?
hope they find out what exactly happend

Cell phone reception might not be the best 10000m above the Alps.

New reports say that pilots were unconscious before they started to fall.

I´m from Haltern, too...actually my cousin was in that plane (she was one of the pupils). It´s just so sad...such young lives wasted, they had still so much things to experience.. R.I.P all those good lives on that plane. I just hope they did not suffer too much pain or agony...

The news said the passengers must have been unconscious long before they crashed and during the crash, they completely vapourised. So if that is any consolation, at least the deaths must have been pretty painless.

My gf knew a couple of people who died

well indeed, its either the oxygen problem or gas intoxication ... They also report that during the fall, the plane would stabilize horizontally, but then continue to fall, which might indicate either that maybe someone tried to control the plane? a lot of questions...

Oh my. Just checked my flight tickets for Friday.
Lufthansa, and a A320. Statistically, I'm very safe, aren't I?
edit: I'm not scared, but the GF loves to worry about things...

Regional planes that make so many flights have always made me nervous. My sincerest condolences.

lufthanas last crash was over20 years ago with 2 dead people, and germanwings never had a crash so far ... but some germanwing crews not wanted to fly the last days on their 320er doubt there is any big problem, seems a spotan problem
the most crashes over 90% are like in a storm or landing starting, just crashing mid on flight seems so strange

Planes that take off/land 4+ times a day are regional in my mind, but I see what you mean.

Also the germanwings crews reported "unfit to fly" for exact that reason. They thought they were psychological not up to the task, they did not generally mistrust their planes.
Flying is pretty save, but the thing is that you can't do anything once aboard and that a crash always involves several fatalities in one horrible and tragic event.

The crews are far more likely to be grieving/shellshocked rather than concerned about their safety.
From reading around what they have so far, some sort of pressurization and/or oxygen problem seems likely.
