This game will take place in a single Saturday evening (or Sunday morning, if you're far enough east), lasting anywhere between 2-5 hours depending on who wins and how fast they do so. The day length is 30 minutes and the night length is 15 minutes. Since the game is so short, there is no posting minimum, nor is there modkilling for inactivity. However, not posting during a given day(s) can of course be used against you.

+ Show Spoiler [Important Posts] + This game will go too fast for me to update this regularly. If you wish to see the day/night posts, simply check my filter. + Show Spoiler [Standard Mafia OP] + Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia. The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance. Rules: Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account. 11. Breadcrumbing the specific phrasing of your role PM. Do not compare the phrasing in your role PM to prove your alignment. You can claim the abilities you have, but you can't use the specific phrasing of your role PM. 12. Posting a false role PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can still fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe. Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it. Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything. Activity: You must contribute to your objective in some way or another. Smurfs: On April 26 2011 13:22 mikeymoo wrote: Smurfs must PM the host because TL doesn't allow multiple accounts otherwise. If the host is unaware of smurfs, you (and/or your smurf) can be banned for having multiple accounts. Spam: Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here. This also means you should condense your posts when possible. 15 one-liners in 30 minutes is unacceptable. Encryption: Don't do it. Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything. Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Flamewheel, or Mig before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally. Reporting posts: The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, Flamewheel, or Mig before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately. Ban discussions: Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game. Play to win. This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing. This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game. You have been warned. Out of thread communication: It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk. Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in THIS thread. Do not PM me your vote. Standard majority rules apply. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote: Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. Plurality Vote: The person with the most number of votes at the end of the day is killed. If there is a tie, the first person to reach that number of votes is killed. 6. Voting is not mandatory due to game length. You may abstain. Signups: This game is open to everyone. Signups will remain open until all player slots have been filled. See above for how to sign up. Game-specific rules: Modkills: This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM Flamewheel or post in the Ban List. I reserve the right to deny you a spot in the game for any reason, including but not limited to: prior BM, player consensus, backseat moderation. Replacements This game uses replacements. Replacements will be made in the game up to and including Night 2. If a player is modkilled during the designated time, then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list. Clues: There are no clues. PMs PMs are not allowed in this game. Time Cycle: This game will follow a 15 minute night/30 minute day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, a cohost will. The game is set to start at 00:00 GMT (+00:00) on November 8(9), that is, in . Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Thanks to everyone who helped balance this game. If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I will not compensate for ignorance!

Socialite (Vanilla Townie) You are rich today because your father was rich 20 years ago, and you are famous today because you were famous yesterday. Society isn't bound to change much since World War I hasn't happened yet, so for now you can just enjoy being rich and famous and having a cabin on a sinking boat. But it's ok because the lifeboats are so close you could piss on them! Dr. Jekyll (Doctor) As a man in high social standing, you take it upon yourself to be the best doctor you can be. Each night you may save one person from death. You may not save yourself directly. If your target is Mr. Hyde, you protect yourself as well as Hyde. Envious Housewife (Alignment Cop) You want to pretend that your money is better than those pesky upstarts' because your family has been sitting on it since the days when people thought you couldn't sail too far west because the sea monster on the map would eat you. Luckily you and your friends invented a bunch of bullshit convoluted fashion rules that you only tell each other to spot who doesn't belong. For instance, it's before Memorial Day... and someone might be wearing white! Every night you may check another player to see if they are old money or new money. Richard Croker (Veteran) You are the corrupt boss of Tammany Hall, sort of like New York City's very own Jabba the Hutt. Being Irish, you, like Jabba, speak a language nobody can really understand, and you are also conveniently extremely fat. You survive the first bullet planted into you. But not the second. You're obese, not bulletproof. If you are shot under the protection of the doctor, you keep your fat (and thus can survive another shot on your own later), although Dr. Jekyll does remind you that healthy eating can lengthen your lifespan. Hunter (Vigilante) Since your business of renting your backup estate out to poor tenants practically runs itself, you instead spend your time doing manly things, like locating endangered species in Africa and putting them out of danger of extinction... by actually making them extinct. Your tranquilizer rifle contains 2 darts. Although since there's enough sedative in each one to take out a hippopotamus, your victims won't be getting up before your boat sinks. You may fire your rifle at anyone once per night, including yourself. You may not fire the two bullets on consecutive nights. The New Money Leonardo DiCaprio (Godfather) Convinced a bunch of people that he's the heir to a railroad fortune or something. Returns old money when checked. Mr. Hyde (Roleblocker) A sociopath who is able to scare people into not doing anything for a night. Target one person per night, and they will be unable to perform any actions. The target is notified that they were roleblocked. If your target is Dr. Jekyll, the roleblock will fail. Both of you will be alerted to the roleblock failing. Butler (Janitor) The socialites fail to mention that to spit on the lifeboats, they have to get an elevation boost, usually by standing on your back when they spit. They could do it by themselves but it's not very polite to accelerate your body when spitting. You have to do it like you hate doing it, just like everything else snooty people do. You have three powers and may use one of them per night, up to a total of two: Clean: Clean your master's bloody mess off the ground, hiding their alignment and role. You and your teammates will still receive the role and alignment. Shoe Polish: Your immaculately polished shoes distract a target, blocking them for the night. This works on Dr. Jekyll. The target is not notified that they were roleblocked, on account of them not remembering what they were doing. Jump: While a target is spitting on you, you may jump, accidentally throwing them overboard and killing them. This has a 50% chance of success. This ability always fails on the Veteran (and does not waste his protection) because he is too heavy for you to jump.

First game I was town and claimed mafia, got killed by vig (...live mafia works differently apparently), second game I was town and got killed night 1, third game I was mafia and both of the other mafia died super fast, eventually lost

I could imagine playing live mafia is even more frustrating than video mafia. Just because i have never really liked cases based on standard "not game related" behavior (while they are sometimes correct) - cases like "you blinked your eye and that makes you mafia" or "you are not laughing to jokes and that makes you mafia". How are you supposed to answer cases like that as any alignment except by saying "no"?

It pisses me off because if you talk longer than 20 seconds, people think you're mafia.
