We keep on talking about how 2011 is back, but let's take a closer look at that: These 16 players will at least win $5,000 each (if they lose the first round). Back in 2011, when players like MMA, Mvp, Naniwa, Bomber and Huk won the MLG circuit events, first place was also $5,000. Of course, the point isn't that prize pools are getting bigger (you could easily argue the opposite). It's just an interesting factoid. | ||

That was just MLG being cheap though, NASL used to have a $50000 first place prize. | ||

Yeah well MLG was a weekend tourney that happened 6 times in 2011, not to mention their 6th (the "national championship" at Providence) had a grand prize of $50000 and had a prize pool of roughly 120,000 while their smaller events had prize pools of about 15k. So I suck at math but that is about 180,000 over the year. Compare that with NASL's 200,000 overall prize money in 2011 and you're fairly even. So I wouldn't say MLG was cheap | ||
