Great news! And thx for your work/time translating it ^^

How totally what I was expecting based on trends present in the reality of this planet.
+ Show Spoiler +ironically--the obvious transition into full SC2 from Kespa was the real Elephant in the room that absolutely no one was willing to talk about lol

So true. On my part its more that i love the korean language than hating on our english speaking casters.

Mixed feelings.
Sad that BW will fade away, but happy to see that the scene will move on with a positive start. Looks like the transition will be conducted professionally and with good intentions for all the parties involved. Looking forward to the upcoming season!

Claim something exists, won't provide links to it. Great argument you have there. I mean just do it? How hard is it? You have 0 credibility otherwise. Here is one of the articles of you're so eager for proof: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=323013¤tpage=77#1540Again, it's mostly speculation, but it makes logical sense. I've read all of these articles about the switch and no where does it say the majority of BW pros are depressed and unhappy about it. Nowhere does it say they're all going to quit either. That you have got to ask this guy .. On May 02 2012 16:40 sCCrooked wrote:On May 02 2012 16:35 Siffer wrote:On May 02 2012 16:29 sCCrooked wrote: [quote]
There's so many people who would flat-out disagree with that second part, its not funny. You should hear what the BW pros said about sc2 and how many of them are incredibly depressed at this news, and even more are leaving esports altogether. Korea is going to keep rejecting this sad excuse for a successor no matter how much Blizzard/GOM try to shove it on us. Take off your blinders. SC2 is evolving into quite a good game. Games were very boring and unimaginative during beta/early release; however, we are starting to see more and more complex games at the highest level. What are BW pros currently saying about SC2? I am not interested in what they had to say during beta. What are they saying now that they are playing and practicing the game? I know that Flash, for example, is actually taking a liking to SC2. Uh... Not really. A large majority of BW pros are upset or planning on leaving. This is all recent released statements and tweets from their channels, not to mention real life statements from my own progamer friends. Take it from someone who is actually here and know them personally, not just from watching them on streams. Because according to him he is pretty close with some bw pro gamers and they have already disclose some distaste to the switch and retirement is actually an option for them if they don't like the transition. LOL. So some guys claims all that and you just believe it without question? I'm sure he talks with Flash and co daily to gather their thoughts. We'll see soon how many just retire from being depressed. Also even if they do, there's a ton of b teamers and other people who didn't get the limelight who are loving the switch. They will replace anyone lost. But what if it's a big name player that retires? What if it's Jaedong or Stork or even Flash that quits because he doesn't like the game? No amount of talented, up-and-coming B-teamers is going to replace those losses. The organizers are banking on the star-power of their top players and teams to help facilitate the transition, and losing anyone would be a huge blow to this transition. It's possible but by name i think we know Flash will play SC2. The others probably will also. Not all but most i think. Also the best BW players may not be the best SC2 players. I know there's a ton of hype about Flash and all those and he has a good chance of being one of the best. But people just calm down just a bit, it will be a while before he's at the top GSL player level. But it's initially not going to be a matter of how they perform but a matter of if their legion of fans will follow them in the transition despite how they perform. The big names have a big number of fans. If they severely underperform or quit, then what happens to those fans? SC2 needs all the Korean fans that it can get if it wants the transition to be successful. The organizers are hoping that fans of the players and teams will follow them through the transition to become fans of the actual game, so any hiccup in this process would be a huge blow. There is a ton of PR fluff going around, so we may never really know their true thoughts on SC2 other than through speculation and reading between the lines whenever they talk about it. Read the article about the BW coaches talking about SC2: http://notyuna.parkjiyeon.net/post/21468962777/sc2-discussion-with-kespa-progaming-team-coachesIt seems that players are enjoying playing SC2, some of them would have retired even if they had to keep playing BW. Could be a lot of PR fluff. Or not. Nothing is certain. KeSPA players and teams are good at controlling this PR stuff. I think everyone wants the SC2 transition to succeed for the sake of their careers in esports lest another game like LoL or DotA2 take over what was once the domain of Starcraft, so they're not openly shit-talking SC2 to help this transition along. I want this transition to succeed. I think most everyone is hoping for success. SC2 becomes successful in Korea. Blizzard improves SC2 to become better than BW. SC2 becomes even more successful around the world. Or at least that's the best case scenario. If it fails, then that would be the worst case. It would be almost impossible to fall back on BW considering the amount invested into SC2 for what could be a long period of time considering there are still 2 xpacks on the way. Starcraft would just be supplanted by another, possibly lesser game, and most of the pro players would drift away into obscurity after retiring from the anomaly that was competitive Korean Starcraft. No one wants this to happen, so a lot is riding on how much Blizzard can improve the game, how much SC2 can take hold in Korea and around the world, and how much better than game can be with this influx of skill and professionalism and money.
They may have kept silent about players who doesn't like the game, but you know they wouldn't lie or come up with stories about a thing like this. It's not that hard to believe that some players actually like SC2 (the game, the new competition or the new chance to shine.. whatever the reason).

I will watch the Pro League for sure... because Pro League format over the GSTL format any days.
But the solo league from OGN... meeeeeh, I don't think so. I don't have that much time and just don't have enough time to watch more than a team league and a solo league, and I prefer following GOMTV than KesPA on that one.
And I need my daily fix of Tasteosis, anyway.

The coexistence of the OSL and MSL was great...I hope that can continue with the OSL2 and the GSL.

goodbye bw. it was a great run. now i'm hoping to see if the bw guys can really take down the competition there.
|
Woohoo so awesome! i just can't wait!!!

and the real pros incoming t.t

well, I guess that drove the nail in the coffin. Thanks for the good times, TL

I'm really looking forward to it! Good times for SC2.

As a hardcore BW fanatic since the age of 11 and a hardcore SC2 fan as well, it hurts me that BW is going to "die", but at the same time, this news excites me. It's good that all parties involved are amicably working together to evolve the SC2 scene. Can't wait to see the likes of Flash, Jaedong, and Bisu go up against MVP, Nestea, DRG, MC, etc.
With that said, I can't help but feel bad and pissed at the same time for the other BW hardcores. I know how it feels like to have something so cherished and beloved to be taken away all of a sudden, but they're acting like a bunch of babies by taking shots at SC2. I know they're the minority, but it's still unsettling. All I can say is that hopefully, SC2 will prove you guys wrong in the future. After all, it's only approaching its 2nd year in existence. BW had more than 10 years to become the RTS standard that it is today.

Wow! SC2 is looking great as an e-sport!

I'd give it up, every time someone has asked for a source they haven't given one except for a guy who claims to talk to them because he's from South Korea (which is as reliable as saying, because I'm English I'm good friends with David Beckham.) Everything that has been tried to argue has been speculation with no source. Then this source is provided to say otherwise, they write it off as "PR fluff." Basically they are in denial. You can't have a rational discussion with someone who cannot accept facts. They have yet to provide evidence of a mass hatred of SC2 by the current BW players, or that there will be significant retirements due to the switch. Just speculation at a time when no one had facts of anything.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. Globalization will help esports grow. And the Korean stranglehold will be temporary. England used to be the best in soccer, now they are still good, but there are plenty other countries that do well. It may take 10 years, but we can look forward to foreign superstars in the future.

Amazing or not, this is not unexpected at all ....

I'm not mad, just really really sad. I almost cried after reading this article. I REALLY hope that the patches for sc2 will turn up the heat. If sc2 could serve as proper replacement, I couldn't be happier about the transition.

I didnt read the thread, so maybe i just "repost" an idea... but what if: moletrap knew about OGN intending to have an english stream for SC2, so he gets in there casting LOL then switching over to SC2?

They probably approached him first. Considering the SC2 is going to start in May, they must already have English casters.
