There is a brand new 30 Question 30 Answer interview with Jaedong over at FOMOS, from what I could tell from a rough Google translation he talks about his favorite games, how his control is so good (this was the question chosen by the last interviewee to be asked to Jaedong), losing in the Arena MSL finals, who his rival is, what he thinks about the recent Protoss era, what he does in his spare time, what his most memorable fan was, etc.

If anyone with Korean translating chops has some spare time, I't would be a much appreciated translation from a Jaedong fan.

▲ 저도 빨리 성장한 편이지만 요즘에 선수들을 보면 실력 향상이 정말 빠른 것 같아서 깜짝깜짝 놀라게 돼요.;;

지금 제가 가슴속에 품고 있는 시나리오는 제가 그 육룡들을 다 물리치고 우승을 차지하는 거에요. 언젠가 그런 날이 올 수 있기를^^;;

What kind of person are you?

- I started playing when I was 17 years old and I’ve been playing for 4 years. I’m a greedy person when it comes to succeeding as a gamer, and I can’t stand to lose.

How did you get into this profession?

- It was much fun for me to play the game. Something inside of me told me that I could really excel in this and had confidence so I guess that is how I got my start.

What is your most memorable episode as a pro gamer?

- As a pro gamer I’ve seen many pro gamers win the championship titles. I would get this burning desire to get one for myself as I watched them get it, and before you know it I was on the final stage and all I had to do was win few more games and when I stood on the EVER StarLeague stage I felt this electricity go through my body. When I saw him type GG, I remembered whining and begging to my parents to allow me to become a pro gamer, I even threatened them that I would shave my head and run away from home, and the heartaches I caused them, rapidly went through my mind. When I walked out of the booth I heard a loud roar from the fans and this is when the reality hit me, `Aha I’m the champion now`. To this day I can’t ever forget it.

What is your most memorable game?

- I think the very first game I played against Stork on the final stage. During those days I had so much passion and would play until my fingers hurt. I realized that I was a bit crazy during those days, and said to my self `oh man this is how a person goes crazy`, I just had that much burning desire to win the title.

When was the most difficult time for you?

- I think now^^;;. Nowadays just pure practice doesn’t cut it. It’s really hard to win games these days.

After you made your debut you quickly made a name for yourself

- Yeah, I did, but the players these days improve by the minute and are so good I’m always shocked when I see them play. Since I became a pro gamer in a team everything pretty much went smoothly and relished every minute of it. They were all older than me and treated me like a younger brother. After I ate a meal I would watch my replays and go over them and find people to practice with, this was my daily routine and still is. I was very fidgety and antsy about quickly making a name for myself. I would sleep less than other people, play more, just only gaming and that is what got me here I think.

Most people say you’re the best Zerg around

- To be honest I constantly say that to myself all the time. This might come off as being arrogant, but I strongly believe this kind of confidence plays a huge part in winning a game. I want to be the best and I always say to myself I will never lose.

You’re leading the team, are you burdened by that?

- I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel the pressure. In the past there were always the senior players that led the team and I would follow their guide, there was this comfort level, back in my mind I would say to myself `we have Anytime so it’s ok if I lose`, and enjoyed playing more, but now the senior players are gone so it does make me nervous. It’s like I have to win or the team might lose, so naturally there is huge pressure.

You haven’t had a great slump yet, what is your secret?

- I think it’s important to consistently do well. I try to keep myself in the tip top shape, for me I think the secret is you just have to practice more than the next guy.

You have a special relationship with your head coach, what does he mean to you?

- He nurtured me and made me who I am today as a gamer, besides my parents he helped me the most. He guides me in the right direction and always gives me good advice.

The Lecaf team tends to stay at the top, why do you think that is?

- I think the chemistry between the coaching staff and the players are good. We handle tough situations well together.

What do you do in your free time?

- I’m a movie buff. I try to read a lot these days, but it hasn’t worked out so well T.T.

Who’s your most memorable fan?

- Since a long time ago there have been some fans that have been coming non stop. No matter how bad or good I do they always root for me and say positive things.

Oversky picked you because he wanted to know about super micro control, he wants to know your secret

- Huk, I don’t know what to say, it’s hard to say really. I think to be good at multitasking you have to have fast hands, and also have a good sense about what your opponent is doing and quickly make a decision and act upon it right away, so I think that is pretty much it. The control part, you just have to practice a lot. To be better than the next guy you just have to practice more than them.

Who is your pick for the next interview?

- I want to pick KTF’s Flash. He is the ace on the team, and has the most wins in Pro League; I want to know how he got to be so good. I want to know how he practices and what kind of mentality he has before playing a game.

Any advice to gamers aspiring to be a professional?

- The most important thing is for you to ask yourself, am I willing to sacrifice my life for this? Some gamers I know they just do it for fun, and somehow pass the Courage event and join a team. If you don’t have that kind of passion it’s best you find something different. I think wasting a few years on something that you aren’t sure of, that could literally ruin your life.

Any words to your fans?

- Recently I’ve been getting much more fan letters. I can feel the love and from that I get the strength to go on. I ask you to continue to support me, I’m not a bad person, but sometimes I disappoint you and I feel bad about that. I hope you can see that.

Fan questions

Who do you think is your rival?

- When I was much better awhile back, I used to think Flash as my rival, but these days I don’t think I’m doing as well as him. I think of other Zerg’s that are doing really good these days as my rivals. When I see them do well, it stimulates me.

The 6 Protoss dragons (Stork, Bisu, Free, Best, JangBi, and Kal) are a force to be reckon with

- My personal goal is to beat the 6 dragons, and grab the championship title.

Do you think you were born with the talent, or got to be this good because of your hard work?

- I think I am here because of my hard work; however you do need some natural talent to a certain extent I think.

Is there any opponent who you think of as the most difficult?

- There’s nobody special

You have one of the best mirror match up skills

- First and foremost having the confidence in yourself. I usually have much fun when I practice against a Zerg. Z vs. Z usually consists of 1 second timing fights, it requires fast hands rather than intelligence, and you often react with your hand first before you think. It’s also important to be able to predict your opponent’s strategies and of course having great micro control is crucial.

What is your ultimate goal as a professional gamer?

- I want to have an everlasting pro gaming career. I want to be in the hearts of all the e-Sports fans and if I can accomplish that I think that I’ll be satisfied.

From what I know you don’t have a girl friend. What is your type?

- Just someone who can understand what it’s like to be a pro gamer. I’m an introvert and very careful about getting close to people so I guess someone that is the opposite of me.

You’ve been away from home for some time now, how do you deal with your homesickness?

- Well.. I came to Seoul when I was just a kid and to be honest I was too busy to even feel any loneliness.^^ At first I missed my parents and friends but I think I adjusted to the team lifestyle relatively fast, so I guess I never felt all that lonely at all.

You’re notorious for your crazy practice hours and methods, what is your driving force?

- I think about the future as I practice. If I play casually and focus more on having fun I will most likely remembered as a mediocre player, my motivation comes from wanting to be better than the next guy and I constantly whip myself.

Are you envious of anyone?

- I’m sometimes envious of my peers. To people that can’t lead a normal life, we envy those who do. I’m sacrificing many things to do what I do, so I need to have results that match my sacrifice. To do that I have to give all I got, and do better than everyone else, so even when I have a day off I can’t really relax.

You lost to ForGG in the MSL finals, how did you feel about that?

- I didn’t feel bad at all. Yes I did lose, but I have no regrets. Lecaf team produced the winner and the runner up so I was satisfied. I lost because he was a better man that night and I accept that, I just felt that I needed to work harder.

Besides gaming, is there anything else you would like to perhaps try?

- There are so many things, I can’t pick just one. If I could I would like to concentrate on studies. There are many things I want to learn about. I know it’s just a wishful thinking..

Is there someone that you would like to be in the same team with?

- MBC Hero’s JaeHoon, he is a good friend of mine and I think it’d be fun to be on the same team.

Edit: Great Interview, great to see he has confidence and works hard for his victories. Whats up with everyone being Jaehoon's friend and practice partners?

Here is another Interview from SCforall on Jaedong's game vs KTF in PL
+ Show Spoiler +
Because of the 0-3 loss last game the team’s atmosphere hasn’t been the best

- Originally the game was supposed to be played on Sunday, but it got postponed till January, which allowed us to have more time compared to the KTF team. We put a lot of hard work into it and are very happy about the outcome today.

Your win in the 2nd round was long overdue

- It’s been awhile since I’ve had a win, and I felt like I was getting used to losing. I worked very hard to win today, and had the mind of let’s just try to show at least what I have prepared for today to the fans. I’ve had many easy losses so I wasn’t as confident. Flash is in the top spot with most wins by a player so I prepared very well for today.

You were hurt by his early vulture penetration

- The build he did on me is the one I practiced very hard for, so I was used to that kind of a situation. I considered all possible mechanic builds a Terran could do, and for today I got a bit too greedy and got hurt more than I should have. For a moment I thought to myself I could very well lose this game. I usually don’t mistakes like that when I train, but these days I seem to make mistakes in league games.

What turned the game around in your favor?

- The main focus for today’s build was to make only 4 hydras and defend against the vultures, counter attack right after, and during training it worked well. I lost more drones than I should have, but I found the proper time to do the timing rush on him which worked quite well killing his goliaths and even many scv’s so I felt pretty good in the game.

These days the mechanic build has become popular

- Mechanics are easier to control for a Terran user. The strong thing about the mechanic build is that if it is well upgraded it becomes a very strong unit. Compared to the past the mechanic build has become a trend and just another good way to kill the Zerg race so us Zerg users need to play accordingly.

Which is easier to play against, bionic or a mechanic?

- I like to play against a mechanic more. Every player is different but for me mechanic build hasn’t been around that long and there is a very weak side to it if you look hard.

You fall a bit short on being at the top

- I don’t worry about that really. There is a great chance for me to catch up in the 3rd round so my plan is to catch up in there.

Any last words?

- I’m very sorry about our team’s poor performance these days, I know it’s disappointing the fans. I haven’t shown the best games either and I’m sorry about making you worry. However, I’ve qualified for the OSL StarLeague recently, and had my very first 2nd round win today, so today will be the turning point for me. I usually do well in this time of the year. December is going to be my month, and you can expect great things coming from me.

Thanks!
Interesting stuff
I like his confidence but am afraid of his insane practice schedule and methods.

I love Jaedong. I never have loved a Zerg like I have Jaedong.
As a matter of fact, I hate zerg users by nature... but Jaedong is.. ~_~ THE BEST.

I think Jaedong will burn out with that amount of pressure. I used to feel that way about grades in high school that I should be better than everyone else so I can get the job I wanted. When I started to mature I learned that pushing yourself so hard doesn't make you happy. I think Jaedong has tons of talent, but if he could find a way to ease the pressure and play for the love of the game instead of being the best ever he would do better.

Man you can tell he's a true fighter.

I just hope he won't break because of it.

This pretty much sums up my feelings as well, haha. Maybe it's my reaction toward disliking most of the new generation of protoss.

Awesome, I was very curious as to what he had to say about that 3-0 trump of KTF. And always happy to know more about their personal lives. Thanks!

greed and confidence, maybe its just how zergs are. theyre always expanding, taking over maps and such. man, zergs are greedy. once he has that "stfu i do whatever i want" confidence that savior had, hes going to become the next great thing. not saying hes not great already but there are simple nuances that he needs to overcome(FBH).
