Introduction:
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules:
Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players. Only you may post on your account.
Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.

Mod Font:
This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.
Question Font:
This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Please do us a favor and read the rules before you ask anything.
Activity:
You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled.
Smurfs:
PM me if you want to smurf in this game. If you try to smurf without informing me, your smurf account will be banned and you may not be allowed to play in the game.
Spam:
Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here.
Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything.
Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM Me before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally, after the game has ended. I have zero tolerance for flaming.
Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to me. Please do not use your report button for anything during the game, PM me instead
Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.
Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM your host if you need to leave the game.

Out of thread communication:
It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. You use these media at your own risk.
Voting rules:
1. Voting is done in this thread. Please keep votes here, and only vote here. Do not PM me your vote.
2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote: GMarshal. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance.
3. No conditional voting.
4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game.
5. This game uses Extended Majority Lynch. That is, at the deadline the player with a majority of votes is lynched (majority = 1/2 the remaining players, rounded down + 1), if no one has a majority then no lynch will take place.
6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. You MAY vote for a no lynch by posting ##Vote: No Lynch
Signups:
This game is open to anyone, but we are using Wisdom of the Crowds, see the signups post for details. Signups will remain open until all 12 spots have been filled . I will be selecting players depending on experience and other factors if we have too many signups.

Modkills:
This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM GMarshal and post in the Ban List.
Replacements
This game use replacements. Replacements will be made in the game until I run out/decide I don't need them anymore. If a player is modkilled during the designated time, then they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list.
Clues:
There are NO clues.
PMs
PMs are NOT allowed in this game.
Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 03:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change. Actions/votes will be accepted up to the posted time, but not after. Remember, only votes up to the deadline will be counted, that is a vote at 02:59 GMT (+00:00) will be counted, one at 03:00 GMT (+00:00) will not

Role List

Liquidia. Known in some circles as the city of vice. A place where clean cops and innocent civilians are contradictions in terms. In this city you're either a member of the mob, in their payroll or dead. But today that changes. Today there's a chance that order might return to Liquidia. The heads of the families are meeting, all the clout in the right place, paranoia is running high, and a new Padrino must be elected. There will never be a chance like this for the police again, either the infiltration team succeeds, or another few decades of racketeering and disorder await the city.
This is a closed setup
The following information is known:
1.) The town in this setup are the mob, and the mafia are the police forces.
2.) The police will receive fake claims, as per usual.
3.) All players have the ability to vote.
4.) The police, in addition to having the ability to vote, share a quicktopic, with which they may communicate at all times, and the ability to carry our a kill every night.
5.) No one will be notified of roleblocks or medic saves.
6.) There are no third parties.
7.) The police have the Delay power communally. That is, any night, they may choose to withhold their kill, and instead have 2 kp the following night. For example, they may choose to not kill anyone night 1, and instead have two kp night 2, they must inform the host if they choose to use this power, and it cannot be used consecutively (e.g if you use it night 1, you may not use it night 2).
8.) This is a normal game, that means there will be no roles that would be considered "non standard", for example, death millers, cultists, CPR Doctors, or time traveling dragons.
Win Conditions:
The Police (Mafia): The Police win when they outnumber the The Mob, or nothing can stop that from happening.
The Mob (Town): The Mob wins when all police forces are dead.

Special Signup rule: Wisdom of the Crowds: If you do not wish to play with a player for any reason, PM me, if I receive enough votes against a player (five or more) then he or she will not be allowed to play in this game. Your vote against a player will be held in the strictest confidence. You *must* be signed up to vote against someone.
Special Signup rule: Bootcamp Game: This is a bootcamp/learning game, and thus heavier on the postgame analysis. If you play you are expected to hang out after the game and help analyze and improve your play and that of others. That means no copouts like "we lost because GM played awful" or "I just didn't have time to post". It is expected everyone will participate in the postgame.
Special Signup rule: Analysts: I'm looking for 2-5 people who want to read along with the game and provide analysis after. These analysts will be able to provide advice after the game and are expected to help me with the analysis, and in general contribute to making this a better learning experience. To sign up as an analyst PM me, a minimum of 5 games experience is required.

Read this section
A few GMarshal specific tidbits
1.) Play nice. I expect you all to behave like Gentlemen (or Ladies, as the case may be). I will not hesitate to modkill or outright ban you for excessive behavior, this includes abusive language and personal attacks. I don't mind you saying "fuck" every once in a while, I don't want to see "FUCKING DIPISHIT, FUCK MAFIA FUCKING SPAM FUCK FUCK FUCK DICKNIPPLES". I'm tired of that kind of shit. Standard tl behavior rules. No personal attacks. The occasional "you idiot T.T" or such post (especially if warranted) is ok, no more than that though.
2.) Don't spam. This isn't IRC, try to consolidate your posts, its horrible when pages 20-80 are all one line posts between two players yelling at each other
3.) Activity. Yes, the guideline is one post per cycle and a vote, but I'll be disappointed if that is the most you do. I do keep track of activity levels, so if you are really inactive I'll make sure you don't get invited to any of my future invitationals, or get preference in signups. Too inactive and I might blacklist you altogether.
4.) Memes and Gifs. Zero tolerance pretty much, as in elsewhere on tl, I will not allow them. Pictures that are not memes are generally ok. No memes (u mad?) or stupid gifs or meme based image macros. Its stupid and belongs on 4chan.
5.) Every single role has custom fluff, it is perfectly ok to claim this fluff, but beware, the mafia has received safe claims , and a total of three additional safe claims for other roles of their choice. All they have to do is PM me their selections. Mafia team, try asking me with lots of time, rather than when the town wants you to claim within 3 minutes or be lynched, as I'm not always on, and writing role fluff takes me a little while.
6.) You may claim your role in full if you so desire, with all the attached fluff, and there will be no consequences, you do not have to paraphrase it. You may not include the time when you received it however.
7.) Have fun. This is a game, the point is to enjoy yourself, so by all means, roleplay to your hearts content, lynch mafia, kill townies, chat, enjoy yourselves there is no point in stressing out over a game.
8.) Remember, this is a bootcamp game. The goal is to learn, so try your hardest, and stick around for the postgame

Also I need a cohost who can be around at the deadline, my schedule is notoriously mercurial, and I'll be at MLG next weekend, so you need to be able and willing to count votes and make nightposts. Brownie points if you're going to help with the analysis bits

Yeah the boot-camp thing means I won't even be observing other games during this so I can spend my mafia-time as efficiently as possible. It'll be a fun experiment.

being super active is a challenge for me, but this will always be the case unless I quit my job. as per my other games I'll of course put in effort and be effective in the time I have available, but if you're only looking for the heavyweights game level of activity, let me know and I'll grumpily (jk, graciously) sit this one out.
