So i reinstalled CS:GO to get massive ping / packet loss on servers (im not sure if it IS packet loss but it seems to go along with it.)
I'll copy/paste my post from the thread here
So what a disappointment, CS:GO is unplayable for me due to some weird latency issue.
Basically i'll join any server and it will start at 300~ and steadily climb over about 10 seconds up to 800-900 then just sit there. I will be able to barely move / warp around the map randomly before just completely freezing up.
Community servers are showing ~100 ping when i join them but do the above once im inside.
I got about 30 seconds of actual play on a MM deathmatch server (all bots) at 100 ping before i jumped back up into the 900's lol.
Anyone have any ideas? Im pretty sad
--End c/p
So basically, serverlist shows normal ping-rate for me, but when i join im getting 500+ and its either rubberbanding the fuck everywhere or just freezing up completely and "refreshing" every 20-30 seconds (I'll hear a clusterfuck of shots and everything will warp once then freeze again etc)
I play other games perfectly (LoL, RIFT etc) at ~200 ping to EU, im connecting to servers in Singapore that SHOULD give me 100 on CS:GO, Both pingtest + server browser show 100 to these servers / singapore
Help? :|
EDIT:
Checked the servers im testing with net_graph 3. 0% packet loss, 700-900 ping. Maybe its not packet loss ? :| Im really confused by this.
I do use a crappy internet dongle but i had no issues with the game a while back that resembled this so i dont know whats up, the only issue ive ever had using the dongle was connecting to p2p games, server-based games are a-ok.

So are you from the US or are you from SG?
It may just be your rates that have an issue, if not that then your internet connection is being throttled by your ISP.
|
^What he said. What settings do you play with? Entering some servers will overwrite your config and add weird stuff to it. I've personally experienced servers that when you get a kick for foul language they will change most your settings to 1 or 0, making the sound extremely loud and strange due to low fps and other stuff.

Im in sri lanka, the closest server hub is Singapore and I'm using a server I played on last year with no issues but now I have them. Also testing on other community ones and normal mm games. Was playing with my settings all morning rate max packets etc but getting no luck, used a config file too which had no effect. Recommend me optimal settings? My Internet is fine like I said I tested with other games speed/ping test and the server browser tells me the correct ping.

Try toying a bit with cl_interp_ratio(Standard is 1, Go higher) and cl_updaterate(Standard is 128, Go lower). It wont make your packetloss disappear but from what I understand it will compensate for and make the game "playable" atleast. I dont know if this works or not since ive never had to do it though. Try it and let me know how it goes.
|
Also. Call your ISP regardless. Could be some ports blocked or whatever
|
Interp should be 0. Interp ratio should be 2 (2 is nooby, not allowed in tournament play because it messes with reg compensation but it should help you). Update rate should be 128, rate should be 128000. Your client will lower if the server does not allow higher rates so it shouldn't matter how high you put it, as long as you don't put it to like 1million.
I wouldn't expect much since the closest server would be in SG for you... which is still quite a ways away from your current position.

Will try those settings and call my ISP about ports, will locate which ones csgo use first
Also im not registering any packet loss. 0% on pingtest.net and CS:GO Net_graph3
Just massive lag that starts at 300-500 in a server and rises to 800-900 constant.

It isn't packet loss, it is the time it takes for the transfer to take place between you and the server. Since the other person's data is calculated first, you will lose the firefight because they server registers the enemy's data first before you.
|
Thing is this isnt normal lag, you dont seem to understand :p (My packetloss comment was made before i saw ur post, we posted at the same time lol)
Pingtesting SG (i guess that means singapore? not sure.) i get ~100MS, the CS:GO server browser shows ~100ms. My ping briefly dropped to 100~MS during a game for about 30 seconds like i mentioned. Once. lol. I played on the exact same SG server in late 2012 on the same connection with ~150 ping (worse coverage in that area) and it was playable.
Playing many other online games to EU (usually germany servers) im getting 200~MS steady, stable, playable ping.
SG is alot closer then EU and all signs point to the fact that i SHOULD get "playable" ping of about 100ish.
Im not complaining about hit reg etc. the game literally just locks up or warps me around the map to places nowhere near while ping sits in the 900's. I havent even managed to get into a firefight let alone lose one in this situation lol.
This isnt normal and somethings up with the game / ports etc, its not just because my connection is slow because its fine on every other front and to a certain extent inside CS:GO (server browser) untill i load the game.

I didn't see you mentioning your upload speed anywhere, but CS and fps in general use more upload than other games like RPGs and whatnot. I.E I can stream sc2 or dota with a given bitrate, but not CS cause it will saturate my upload. I understood you could play fine before, but your problem really looks like saturated bandwith to me (which would explain why your ping in the browser is fine, but not ingame). Maybe post a speedtest+pingtest so that people more knowledgeable than me can judge ? :p
|
Well i cant fix it. God knows what it is, perhaps my ports or my upload, which are valid things to be worried about considering im on one of those dodgy internet dongles.
Its worked well enough for most things but enough is enough, upgrading to a solid BB connection by the end of the month, 4down 1 up hahaha, best sri lanka has to offer! Will have a solid upload speed at least and better Download then what i currently have. For all intents and purposes, its fine.
Thanks for the help guys, im hoping this is fixed when the new internet comes through
