This is for anyone thinking about upgrading to win8. I have the Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit version.
Installing I couldn't install the game with my CDs. I got Starcraft installed but after i inserted the BW cd it said some file couldn't be read/found and i had to exit the installer. I think something like this happened once on my laptop that runs Win7 (my desktop was xp). I didn't bother trying again, I just dl'ed the game from iccup and it runs fine. http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/sc_start.html
No bugs found in-game or main and single player menus. And no win7 "rainbow colours"
Bugs in battlenet/iccup menus Thankfully all the bugs are found only in these menus when in FULLSCREEN mode. In windowed mode I havent noticed a single graphical bug yet. Print screen didn't show the bugs so i took a couple of photos with my phone.
+ Show Spoiler [PICS] +
-Text on buttons shows black text field around them. (pic 1) -Player ranks missing (pic 1) -Player profiles bugged (pic 2) -Overlapping text in login menu
-Screen goes black I haven't seen this problem since I did a system restore and you can alt-tab and the it will go back to normal.
Mouse Acceleration You can remove the mouse accel in win8 by running the .reg file in this link http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.ca/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html

What about the direct draw error? The one that makes the computer freeze. Can you CONFIRM that this error is not present?
You'll have to play many games. I only got it about once every 100th game on Windows 7, but it was still enough to make me rage and switch to Vista.

Broodwar runs flawlessly in W7 but first you should just restart the pc and run it with no other programs open. Never crashed with this technique!

about the overlapping text, could you try to have resolution changer option when tabbing back into bw?

hey just a tip next time you want a screen shot, press "print screen" on your keyboard, then open up paint and press control+v to paste your screen shot. Then you can save it. Sorry if you already knew but I just dislike looking at pictures of a monitor :3

It freezed for me. But like I said, only about once every 100th game. The chance of freezing also seems to increase exponentially the longer StarCraft runs.

I only get some very minor inverted colours with BW on windows 7 in full screen mode.. But these "rainbow colours" as they were called above only occur with the menu and never in game. I seriously do not understand why you would install a tablet/touch screen/smart phone OS onto a desktop or laptop computer in the first place ^^;:

I already said that print screen doesn't see the bugs, read the full post next time.

I didn't want to discuss the merits of win8 over other OS's but just to let people know whether bw will work or not. I've had xp for like the longest time now and had no interest whatsoever in win8. But i was forced to use it at school and received a free copy for at home.
Once I got used to it I began to like it. Compared to xp, the boot and shutdown times are faster, copying files is faster, and the search is way faster. Also, i stay away from the metro UI. In fact its so bad with all the mouse overs and everything that i had to learn all the hotkeys for things like shutting down the computer, but now that i know them it's even easier to navigate than xp.

Had to explain my dad how to playback DVD's on his Win8 notebook, so I went to help him and was like: wtf how to use this Metro UI thing. Eventually I got everything set up, but Win7 is still better the OS to use for desktop/keyboard notebooks. Using Win7 myself, but XP is a better pick for older games generally.

Best thing i can recommend is a virtual machine with xp installed. I was having crazy lag issues too but i have 7 and i dont remember exactly what i did but i do know its in the compatibility center and something with desktop composition.
